When curiosity hit an all-time peak, author Ryan Patrick Burns
dropped everything to follow the insane amount of paranormal
activity reported by locals in the Uintah Basin of Utah and Las
Vegas. In The Utah UFO Ranch, he shares an intimate and intriguing
glimpse into the world of UFOs and other paranormal phenomena, the
researchers who follow and study them, and the mysteries and
theories surrounding them. A full-time researcher of the
paranormal, occult, esoteric, and more, Burns offers stories of his
own adventures, as well. In "Drones," he discusses his late-night
quest for drones, said to be extraterrestrial or the spirit lights
of Native American ancestors. "Ghosts of Our Past" shares a story
about urban research in Las Vegas regarding UFO sightings and
visits to haunted and possessed homes. With a resource list
included, The Utah UFO Ranch challenges you to see reality from a
new perspective.
Sophia "Phia" Lopez has lived a sheltered and over-protected life.
First, growing up under the strict rule of her Cuban father in
Miami, and then living with her equally stern brother in San Diego.
At almost twenty-five, she feels like the world is passing her by.
And then, a chance of a lifetime Phia is chosen to be the personal
assistant and traveling companion for famous Hollywood actress,
Loreal De Winter, who is sailing incognito aboard the luxury cruise
ship The Viceroy following extensive plastic surgery. Not only will
Phia, an aspiring actress, have the opportunity to learn from a
true legend, but she'll also be able to finally live life and all
it has to offer on her terms - not under the watchful eyes of her
brother and father. She plans to do plenty of dancing, drinking,
and flirting. The moment she steps aboard, she catches the eye of
the sexy ship's photographer, Evan Gregory, who is more than
willing to match her flirt-for-flirt during their eighteen day
cruise. The two spend a magical day on the beach in Cabo San Lucas,
enjoy a heated night at the disco, and explore their mutual
attraction to each other that leaves Phia's head spinning. But
Phia's also got her work cut out for her. Not only is Loreal on a
cocktail of pills washed down by an assortment of liquors and
wines, but she's only too happy to share her life lessons and
plenty of Hollywood dirt with Phia on a daily basis. To make
matters worse, Loreal's ex-husband has hired undercover paparazzi
on board the ship, attempting to snap embarrassing photos of the
still-healing silver screen star that could end her big comeback.
Phia experiences life, love, and loyalty to the fullest as The
Viceroy makes its way from the Pacific, through the Panama Canal,
and into the Atlantic Ocean, with a media circus awaiting them upon
docking in Miami. Will Loreal manage to give the paparazzi the slip
or will she be exposed? Will Phia choose her loyalty to Loreal or
her feelings for Evan? And, in the end, will everyone be able to
save face?
A different sort of programming book -- it steps back from
variables and syntax and code details. Programming can be better,
faster and more enjoyable by incorporating the ways of thinking
that are presented. You are guided towards how to make yourself a
great programmer.
S Poetry starts with the basics of the S language (of which R is a
dialect). It then goes on to more advanced issues, including good
programming techniques. Many of the deficiencies that are pointed
out have now been fixed in R and S+. The parts that are most
helpful include the glossary and the chapter on higher dimensional
arrays. The 'genopt' function (which is R-compliant and available
on the Burns Statistics website) -- though not particularly a nice
example of programming -- is one of the most useful functions.
An essential guide to the trouble spots and oddities of R. In spite
of the quirks exposed here, R is the best computing environment for
most data analysis tasks. R is free, open-source, and has thousands
of contributed packages. It is used in such diverse fields as
ecology, finance, genomics and music. If you are using spreadsheets
to understand data, switch to R. You will have safer -- and
ultimately, more convenient -- computations.
