Information, Organization and Management is a comprehensive
treatment of the economic and technical foundations for new
organizational forms, relations and processes. It provides a wide
range of underlying concepts and frameworks that help the reader
understand the major forces driving organizational and marketplace
change, rather than presenting these changes as simple outcomes of
technological or management fads. "The book has a heavier than
usual economic bent, yet also considers the human cognitive
aspects. The emphasis throughout is on the total concepts, with
subsections at the end of each chapter describing the role of
information and the implications for management. The content is
well worth reading." Paul Gray, Claremont Graduate School and
University of California at Irvine.

der Unternehmen umfassend darlegt. In hohem Masse auch fur
Praktiker lesenswert..." Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung Die 5.
Aufl. wurde aktualisiert. Insbesondere wurden die zahlreichen
Praxisbeispiele in allen Kapiteln uberarbeitet.
This work addresses the gap in the current collective action
literature exposed by the new Information and Communication
Technologies (ICTs) landscape by bringing together qualitative and
quantitative studies from computational and social sciences. The
book offers a rigorous and systematic investigation of both
methodological and theoretical underpinnings and, thus,
collectively promotes a symbiotic and synergistic advancement of
the multiple interconnected disciplines in studying online
collective actions. More specifically, the book is intended to
illuminate several fundamental and powerful yet theoretically
undeveloped and largely unexplored aspects of collective action in
the participatory media (e.g., social media). Through in-depth
exploration of relevant concepts, theories, methodologies,
applications, and case studies, the reader will gain an advanced
understanding of collective action with the advent of the new
generation of ICTs enabled by social media and the Internet. The
developed theories will be valuable and comprehensive references
for those interested in examining the role of ICTs not only in
collective action but also in decision and policy making,
understanding the dynamics of interaction, collaboration,
cooperation, communication, as well as information flow and
propagation, and social network research for years to come.
Further, the book also serves as an extensive repository of data
sets and tools that can be used by researchers leading to a deeper
and more fundamental understanding of the dynamics of the crowd in
online collective actions.

Roman Beck presents a new goods classification model to explore the
dissemination of IT and e-business standards and designs two
applications that support and improve firms' electronic interlaced
communication by means of automation and standardization effects.
He then examines how network effects drive the diffusion of
communication standards and develops a model which is implemented
as a simulation to show the dynamic interplay between direct and
indirect network effects during the diffusion process. It also
addresses critical mass and life cycle issues, as well as related
utility changes in communication standards.

Within the rapidly-growing arena of 'virtual worlds', such as
Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOs), individuals behave in
particular ways, influence one another, and develop complex
relationships. This setting can be a useful tool for modeling
complex social systems, cognitive factors, and interactions between
groups and within organizations. To study these worlds effectively
requires a cross-disciplinary approach that integrates social
science theories with big data analytics. This broad-based book
offers a comprehensive and holistic perspective on the field. It
brings together research findings from an international team of
experts in computer science (artificial intelligence, game design,
and social computing), psychology, and the social sciences to help
researchers and practitioners better understand the fundamental
processes underpinning social behavior in virtual worlds such as
World of Warcraft, Rift, Eve Online, and Travian.
