Deliberative democracy can be seen as a part of the agenda of deepening democracy, wherein the public deliberation of citizens forms the basis of legitimate decision-making, with the people participating directly in the deliberations or making of decisions that affect them. Although political theorists have long contended that democracy should not be based merely on voting but also on informed public debate and despite diverse attempts at deliberative democracy having been made in various parts of the world, it is only during the recent decades that such initiatives have gained momentum. In terms of procedural democracy and the working of democratic institutions, India's record is considered to be noteworthy. The mainstream approach to the understanding of pain continues to be governed by the biomedical paradigm and the dualistic Cartesian ontology. This Volume brings together essays of scholars of literature, philosophy and history on the many enigmatic shades of pain-experience, mostly from an anti-Cartesian perspective of cultural ontology by scholars of literature, philosophy and history. A section of the essays is devoted to the socio-political dimensions of pain in the Indian context. The book offers a critical perspective on the reductive conceptions of pain and argue that non-substance ontology or cultural ontology supports a more humane and authentic understanding of pain. Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Medicine - Pharmacology, course: Masters in Pharmacy, language: English, abstract: ANTIULCER SCREENING OF SELECTED PLANTS OF PLUMBAGO SPECIES & THE EFFECT OF PLUMBAGIN IN GASTRIC CELL LINES Objectives: The objective of the study is to evaluate the antiulcer effect of the Plumbago species and to investigate the most effective plant among the selected Plumbaginales, P.auriculata, P.indica & P.zeylanica after the nvitro evaluation. Materials and Methods: MTT assay was used to perform the cytotoxic effect of the Plumbagin and to scrutinize the least cytotoxic among the Plumbaginales for gastroprotective effect. The DPPH scavenging assay, Lipid peroxidase inhibition assay, Acid neutralising capacity test and Ethanol induced ulcer model were used for assessing the antiulcer effective plant for invivo studies. Ranitidine (20mg/kg, p.o) was used as reference drug in the study. Results and Discussion: MTT results revealed that the Plumbagin showed cytotoxic activity at 40.18 g/ml, P.auriculata is having least cytotoxic effect. Even though significant antiulcer activity were exhibited by all the Plumbaginales and Plumbagin showed significant antioxidant and acid neutralising assays, P.auriculata had decreased the number of ulcers and increased in the percentage gastric protection. Conclusion: P.auriculata showed antiulcer study and the results were compared by Plumbagin, P.indica and P.zeylanica. A future prospect on mechanism based studies and isolation of the constituents is needed for the individual plants."
Master's Thesis from the year 2012 in the subject Pharmicology, grade: A, Mahatma Ghandi University (University College of Pharmacy), course: M.Pharm, language: English, abstract: Polyherbal formulations available with a wide range of indications like hepatoprotective, appetite and growth promoters, gastrointestinal and hepatic regulator, as treatment for hepatic dysfunction, for hepatic regeneration as well as liver stimulant and tonic. Despite the widespread use, there is a lack of scientific evidence on their efficacy and safety. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of Polyherbal formulation Kamialri on oxidative stress and associated damages in carbon tetrachloride induced toxicity in Chang liver cells. The study is mainly focused on the evaluation of its antioxidant potential, invitro steatosis and intracellular localisation of reduced glutathione by Monochlorobimane(MCB) staining. Carbon tetrachloride induced toxicity in chang liver cells was well manifested by significant decrease in cell viability, enhanced lipid peroxidation leading to tissue damage, decreased SOD, glutathione, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione S- transferase and increased deposition of fatty acid . MTT study revealed that Kamilari has got cytoprotective activity. It has got the excellent free radical scavenging properties which was proven by various antioxidant activities (LP, SOD, GSH, GPX, and GST). Inhibitory effect of Kamilari on fatty acid deposition was proven by invitro steatosis studies which were conducted on palmitic acid treated chang cell line.Based on the above studies it is concluded that Kamilari has cytoprotective and antioxidant activity, and found to be effective in steatosis.

Dans cet travail d'une part nous determinons les groupes de Lie symplectiques connexes et simplement connexes de dimension 4 et 6 et d'autre part nous etudions une famille infinie de groupes symplectiques dans lesquels la forme symplectique est "invariantement" exacte. Dans tous ces cas nous nous interessons a l'existence de sous-groupes lagrangiens et parfois des sous-groupes lagrangiens transverses pour mettre en evidence des structures symplectiques affines invariantes a gauche. La structure de ces groupes est etudiee a l'aide de l'application moment.
