Es wird versucht darzulegen, dass die Revolution von 1848 der Ursprung - die Zementierung" - der starken nationalen Spaltung in Bohmen war. Ausserdem wird dargestellt, inwieweit man von einem Wandel von einer sozialen Revolution zu einer nationalen Revolution sprechen kann und welche Ereignisse vor 1848 die Bildung zweier konkurrierender Nationalismen ermoglicht und gefordert haben. Im 19. und fruhen 20. Jahrhundert wurde davon ausgegangen, dass Nationalismus und Nation etwas Selbstverstandliches" und Naturliches" seien. Seit etwa 1980 findet ein wesentliches Umdenken statt. Immer mehr Politik- und Sozialwissenschaftler sowie Historiker gehen heute in der Nationalismusforschung davon aus, dass Nationalismus und Nation im Sinne des Konstruktivismus reine - oder zumindest uberwiegende - Konstrukte sind, die durch Menschen geschaffen wurden. Der Autor bezieht sich dabei auf eine These von R. Bartlett, der davon ausgeht, dass diese beiden Vorgange innerhalb der europaischen Expansion des Hohen und Spaten Mittelalters sehr ahnlich gewesen sind und geht der Frage nach, inwieweit diese These verifiziert werden kann und es tatsachlich Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede gibt. Der Autor geht dabei davon aus, dass die Reconquista geregelter und geordneter ablief, als die deutsche Siedlung in Ostmittel- und Osteuropa. Hierzu wird untersucht, welche Rollen Dorfer und Stadte hatten und wie die Bevolkerungsstruktur der eroberten Gebiete war. Die Arbeit gibt einen kurzen historischen Uberblick uber die Ostsiedlung sowie uber die Reconquista und Repoblacion. Im Hauptteil wird die Rolle von Dorfern und Stadten untersucht. Fur die Untersuchung der sogenannten deutschen Ostsiedlung wurde das Gebiet der Mark Brandenburg herangezogen. De Autor kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass Reconquista und deutsche Ostsiedlung durchaus Parallelen aufweisen. In beiden Fallen wurde der Missions- und Kreuzzugsgedanke verwendet, um eine Eroberung zu rechtfertigen oder zu initiieren. Allerdings gab es bei der Besiedlung oder Vergabe von Land gravierende Unterschiede. Mudejares und Moriscos wurden in Spanien nur eine zeitlang geduldet und mussten immer in abgetrennten Stadtvierteln oder Vorstadten leben. Die slawische Bevolkerung hingegen wurde meistens nicht vertrieben, sondern vermischte sich mit Neusiedlern oder lebte gleichberechtigt neben diesen und war nur im Sonderfall der Kietze nicht gleichberechtigt.

Dieser Bezug in die unmittelbare Gegenwart macht es interessant zu beleuchten, ob und inwiefern es historisch gesehen in Brandenburg-Preussen Toleranz gegeben hat. In einem ersten Schritt muss definiert werden, was unter Toleranz zu verstehen ist, ein aktives Tolerieren oder ein passives Erdulden. Hierzu werden der historische und der aktuelle Toleranzbegriff nebeneinander gestellt. Der Staat Brandenburg-Preussen nahm im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert zahlreiche Fluchtlinge und sonstige Immigranten mit den verschiedensten Hintergrunden auf. So kamen in die Mark Brandenburg neben zahlreichen Hugenotten, Niederlandern und Salzburgern auch Bohmen, einige Juden sowie verschiedene andere kleinere und grossere Gruppen. Kallisthenes - von dem nur noch Fragmente vorliegen - war Historiker im Gefolge Alexanders und ist daher nicht als neutrale" Quelle anzusehen, sondern als jemand der die Geschichte so aufschrieb, wie Alexander sie uberliefert haben wollte. Das fruheste - heute noch vollstandig vorliegende - Geschichtswerk ist aus dem ersten Jahrhundert vor Christus im 17. Buch der Bibliotheke historike" von Diodor erhalten. Die nach Auffassung zahlreicher Historiker beste und verlasslichste Behandlung stammt von Arrian, der aber erst im 2. Jh. nach Christus lebte - rund 400 Jahre nach Alexanders Tod. Die Quellen zu Alexander sind folglich mit grosser Vorsicht zu behandeln und grundsatzlich immer kritisch zu hinterfragen. Die moderne Literatur hat ebenfalls zahlreiche Werke zu Alexander III. - und auch dessen Aufenthalt in Agypten - verfasst. Allerdings gibt es ein deutliches Ungleichgewicht in den Thematiken. Wahrend Alexanders Zug zum Ammon-Zeus-Heiligtum in der Oase Siwa sowie zu seinen Motiven fur den Zug nach Agypten haufig thematisiert wird, ist die Anzahl der Publikationen zur Neuordnung der Verwaltung sowie zu Kleomenes von Naukratis geradezu durftig. Diese Proseminararbeit soll untersuchen, warum Alexander die Besetzung Agyptens - die von einigen Historikern als unverstandlicher Umweg dargestellt wird - als wichtigen Baustein seiner Eroberungsplane benotigte. Der Autor vertritt die These, dass Alexander sowohl wegen finanziellen und militarischen Grunden als auch aus Prestigegrunden Agypten erobern musste
