Steven Si, David Ahlstrom, John Cullen, Wei Jiang
R4,219 Discovery Miles 42 190 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Ways in which poverty can be reduced in both countries and regions through business, entrepreneurship and government has been a hot issue for researchers and policymakers in recent years. Governments can play an important role in helping the poor people by non-profit organizations and others that help to seed business among the poor. Businesses increasingly also see the large number of people in severe poverty not only as an issue for social concern, but also as a potentially large untapped market of consumers for goods and services. Some scholars have called for poverty reduction through entrepreneurship owing to the fact that it can be an efficient path to also change the poor's attitudes and behaviours from a passive mode, to a more active mode towards poverty reduction economically and socially. In addition, the sharing economy brings opportunities where everyone is a micro-entrepreneur. There is a recognition that these types of entrepreneurship above could offer the greatest single potential means to move individuals out of poverty in the nations and regions in the next 5-10 years. This book provides new and valuable analyses of poverty and business, entrepreneurship and innovation in current nations and regions including developing and developed countries. As business, entrepreneurship and innovation can help to generate greater business activity in settings of severe poverty, they will help to solve poverty, as individuals in severe poverty are able to both generate greater incomes and accumulate greater assets as they participate with large firms in those activities. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of the Entrepreneurship & Regional Development.

R4,000 Discovery Miles 40 000 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Submarine Optical Cable Engineering presents a summary and exposition from authors engaged in the submarine optical cable engineering field. It systematically discusses the theory and practice of engineering site selection, route survey, laying construction, system maintenance, and safety in operation and information management, all topics relating to the long-term development and progress of science and technology. As there are now more than 230 extant systems, with a total length of more than one million kilometers, this book compiles the wealth of experience that has accumulated regarding their construction stemming from the first inter ocean submarine cable system (TAT-8) built in 1988.

Clinician's Guide to Psychiatric Care (Paperback, New): Ranga Krishnan, Jane Gagliardi, Wei Jiang Clinician's Guide to Psychiatric Care (Paperback, New)
Ranga Krishnan, Jane Gagliardi, Wei Jiang
R871 Discovery Miles 8 710 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Psychiatric illnesses are common co-morbidities among patients who are medically ill. Approximately 50% of patients who visit primary care physicians regularly are primarily affected by psychiatric problems. Many primary care physicians (including family physicians and general internists) and other non-psychiatric specialist physicians encounter patients with psychiatric symptoms on a daily basis during their routine practice. Few non-psychiatric physicians, however, feel comfortable managing psychiatric conditions. This pocket-sized guide is designed to provide a concise, practical overview of the management and treatment of common psychiatric disorders, including such conditions as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders and schizophrenia.
The book will feature an overview of the general practice of Psychiatry, including guidance on mental status examination and diagnosis, neuropsychological assessment, and psychotherapy, as well as a detailed section on psychiatric pharmacotherapies. The remaining chapters of the book are organized by symptom-based presentations of patients to physicians, rather than by diseases or diagnosis, such as 'The Depressed Patient' or 'The Insomniac Patient.' This unique approach is highly practical and reflects real-world physician experience in clinical settings in assessing and managing psychiatric disorders.
Each symptom-based chapter will present a typical patient case followed by an outline of commonly seen symptoms, bedside assessments, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, and treatment options, as well as guidance on when to call for psychiatric consultation. This book will focus on differentials that will help non-psychiatric physicians gain a greater understanding of psychiatric conditions and will provide directions for triage. The uniqueness of psychiatric problems in co-morbid medical conditions will be described, as well as interventional considerations. This book should serve as a very user-friendly and reliable tool for non-psychiatric physicians, especially for primary care physicians and internists for their daily clinical practice.
