Radar is a key technology in the safety system of a modern vehicle. Automotive radars are the critical sensors in advanced driver-assistance systems, which are used in adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, blind spot detection, lane change assistance, and parking assistance. The book covers all the modern radars used in automotive technology. A long-range radar mounted in the front of the vehicle is usually for adaptive cruise control. The medium range radars mounted in the front and rear provide wider coverage than the long-range radars and they can be used for cross traffic alert and lane change assistance. The corner mounted short range radars support parking aid, obstacle/pedestrian detection and blind spot monitoring. In real applications, these radars usually work together to provide more robust detection results. In this book, we also recognize that the future of automotive radars should not only address conventional exterior applications, but also play important roles for interior applications, such as gesture sensing for human-vehicle interaction and driver/passenger vital signs and presence monitoring. The book is aimed at those radar engineers who are working on automotive applications.
Wireless communications have become invaluable in the modern world. The market is going through a revolutionary transformation as new technologies and standards endeavor to keep up with demand for integrated and low-cost mobile and wireless devices. Due to their ubiquity, there is also a need for a simplification of the design of wireless systems and networks. The Handbook of Research on Advanced Trends in Microwave and Communication Engineering showcases the current trends and approaches in the design and analysis of reconfigurable microwave devices, antennas for wireless applications, and wireless communication technologies. Outlining both theoretical and experimental approaches, this publication brings to light the unique design issues of this emerging research, making it an ideal reference source for engineers, researchers, graduate students, and IT professionals.
Chipless RFID Authentication examines the development of highly secure product authentication systems for manufactured products by using chipless radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. The absence of a chip and its compatibility with mass production make chipless RFID an alternative to barcodes. This book discusses how, by using natural randomness inherent to the fabrication process, each chipless RFID tag has a unique signature that can never be reproduced, even if someone tries to copy the label. The book first explores the state-of-the-art of existing authentication and anti-counterfeiting methods based on their security level. Next, a methodology describing the characterization of chipless RFID tags for the authentication application is presented, followed by a discussion of the extraction of aspect-independent parameters for chipless RFID tags. After proposing designs for the tags, the book presents the realization and characterization of the labels (which exhibit naturally occurring randomness) for authentication, using printed circuit boards and inkjet printing on polyethylene terephthalate.
Iris recognition technologies for identity management are already deployed globally in several large-scale nationwide biometric projects and are currently entering the mobile market. More recently, periocular recognition has been employed to augment the biometric performance of the iris in unconstrained environments where only the ocular region is present in the image. Iris and Periocular Biometric Recognition provides an overview of scientific fundamentals and principles of iris and periocular biometric recognition over six broad areas: an introduction to iris and periocular recognition; a selective overview of issues and challenges; soft biometric classification; security aspects; privacy protection and forensics; and future trends. With contributions from experts in industry and academia, this book is essential reading for researchers, graduate students and practitioners in biometrics and related fields.
