Random Processes with Applications to Circuits and Communications (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020): Bernard C. Levy Random Processes with Applications to Circuits and Communications (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020)
Bernard C. Levy
R2,742 Discovery Miles 27 420 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This textbook is based on 20 years of teaching a graduate-level course in random processes to a constituency extending beyond signal processing, communications, control, and networking, and including in particular circuits, RF and optics graduate students. In order to accommodate today's circuits students' needs to understand noise modeling, while covering classical material on Brownian motion, Poisson processes, and power spectral densities, the author has inserted discussions of thermal noise, shot noise, quantization noise and oscillator phase noise. At the same time, techniques used to analyze modulated communications and radar signals, such as the baseband representation of bandpass random signals, or the computation of power spectral densities of a wide variety of modulated signals, are presented. This book also emphasizes modeling skills, primarily through the inclusion of long problems at the end of each chapter, where starting from a description of the operation of a system, a model is constructed and then analyzed. Provides semester-length coverage of random processes, applicable to the analysis of electrical and computer engineering systems; Designed to be accessible to students with varying backgrounds in undergraduate mathematics and engineering; Includes solved examples throughout the discussion, as well as extensive problem sets at the end of every chapter; Develops and reinforces student's modeling skills, with inclusion of modeling problems in every chapter; Solutions for instructors included.

Sounds of Belonging - U.S. Spanish-language Radio and Public Advocacy (Hardcover): Dolores Ines Casillas Sounds of Belonging - U.S. Spanish-language Radio and Public Advocacy (Hardcover)
Dolores Ines Casillas
R2,861 Discovery Miles 28 610 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

How Spanish-language radio has influenced American and Latino discourse on key current affairs issues such as citizenship and immigration. Winner, Book of the Year presented by the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education Honorable Mention for the 2015 Latino Studies Best Book presented by the Latin American Studies Association The last two decades have produced continued Latino population growth, and marked shifts in both communications and immigration policy. Since the 1990s, Spanish- language radio has dethroned English-language radio stations in major cities across the United States, taking over the number one spot in Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, and New York City. Investigating the cultural and political history of U.S. Spanish-language broadcasts throughout the twentieth century, Sounds of Belonging reveals how these changes have helped Spanish-language radio secure its dominance in the major U.S. radio markets. Bringing together theories on the immigration experience with sound and radio studies, Dolores Ines Casillas documents how Latinos form listening relationships with Spanish-language radio programming. Using a vast array of sources, from print culture and industry journals to sound archives of radio programming, she reflects on institutional growth, the evolution of programming genres, and reception by the radio industry and listeners to map the trajectory of Spanish-language radio, from its grassroots origins to the current corporate-sponsored business it has become. Casillas focuses on Latinos' use of Spanish-language radio to help navigate their immigrant experiences with U.S. institutions, for example in broadcasting discussions about immigration policies while providing anonymity for a legally vulnerable listenership. Sounds of Belonging proposes that debates of citizenship are not always formal personal appeals but a collective experience heard loudly through broadcast radio.

F Perez-Fontan
R2,808 Discovery Miles 28 080 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

A practical tool for propagation channel modeling with MATLAB(R) simulations.

Many books on wireless propagation channel provide a highly theoretical coverage, which for some interested readers, may be difficult to follow. This book takes a very practical approach by introducing the theory in each chapter first, and then carrying out simulations showing how exactly put the theory into practice. The resulting plots are analyzed and commented for clarity, and conclusions are drawn and explained from the obtained results.

The book comes with an accompanying website that contains the MATLAB(R) simulations and allows readers to try them out themselves

Well suited for lab-use, as reference and as a self-learning tool both for advanced students and professionals

"Modeling the Wireless Propagation Channel: A simulation approach with MATLAB(R)" will be best suited for postgraduate (Masters and PhD) students and practicing engineers in telecommunications and electrical engineering fields, who are seeking to familiarise themselves with thetopic without too many formulas. The book will also be of interest to network engineers, system engineers and researchers.

Energy Efficient Spectrum Resources Usage in WPANs - IEEE 82.15.4 MAC Sub-layer Protocols (Hardcover): Luis Miguel Borges,... Energy Efficient Spectrum Resources Usage in WPANs - IEEE 82.15.4 MAC Sub-layer Protocols (Hardcover)
Luis Miguel Borges, Norberto Barroca, Periklis Chatzimisios, Fernando Jose Velez
R2,861 Discovery Miles 28 610 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and the Internet of Things are facing tremendous advances both in terms of energy-efficiency as well as in the number of available applications. Consequently, there are challenges that need to be tackled for the future generation of WSNs. After giving an overview of the WSN protocols and IEEE 802.15.4 standard, this book proposes IEEE 802.15.4 Medium Access Control (MAC) sub-layer performance enhancements by employing not only RTS/CTS combined with packet concatenation but also scheduled channel poling (MC-SCP). Results have shown that the use of the RTS/CTS mechanism improves channel efficiency by decreasing the deferral time before transmitting a data packet. Furthermore, the Sensor Block Acknowledgment MAC (SBACK-MAC) protocol enables more efficiency as it allows the aggregation of several acknowledgement responses in one special Block Acknowledgment (BACK) Response packet. The throughput and delay performance have been mathematically derived under both ideal conditions (a channel environment with no transmission errors) and non-ideal conditions (with transmission errors). Simulation results successfully validate the proposed analytical models. This research reveals the importance of an appropriate design for the MAC sub-layer protocol for the desired WSN application. Depending on the mission of the WSN application, different protocols are required. Therefore, the overall performance of a WSN application certainly depends on the development and application of suitable e.g., MAC, network layer protocols.
