Love and death are closer than you think...There has never been a heroine quite like Stella Powell; complex, feisty, vulnerable, and the prime suspect in a murder investigation. Detective Chief Inspector Frank MacDonald, a sophisticated 41 year-old, is the hero who falls under her spell. As Frank wrestles with the twists and turns of the case, he also shares in the joys and sorrows of his closest family. During one unbearably hot week in August, the York police are called to the scene of a brutal killing. The victim is Jane Sinclair, an attractive and vivacious red-head, who has been having an affair with James Powell, a well-known photographer. Whilst piecing the facts together, Frank finds himself increasingly attracted to Stella Powell, the photographer's wife, as they exchange views on Art, Literature and Life. However, as the forensic evidence mounts against Stella, Frank struggles to reconcile his feelings and his duty, until events lead to a terrifying conclusion at a famous Yorkshire landmark.
The targeted murder of four officers is only the first in a series of attacks that leaves police scared, angry and, most disturbingly of all, vengeful. As Tom Thorne and Nicola Tanner dig into the reasons for the violence, a deeper darkness begins to emerge: the possibility that these murders are payback. The price paid for an unspeakable betrayal. To uncover the truth, Thorne will be forced to question everything he stands for. He can trust nobody, and the shocking secrets revealed by one terrible night will fracture his entire world.

Now, after an unceremonious termination from his job, Lance has decided that the time has come to go after his dream. From New York’s ridiculous avant-garde, off-off Broadway scene, to the surreal glitter of Los Angeles, follow Lance on his madcap journey of self-abandonment to become his likeness. Part comedy, part human tragedy, and part suspense, the world through the eyes of Lancelot Blue Dunkquist is like none you’ve ever seen . . .
Kapteins Griessel en Cupido wil van meet af aan nie dié docket hê nie. Die een van Johnson Johnson, oud-poliesman, sy lyk gekry langs die treinspoor anderkant Drie Susters. Want die saak is weke oud. A chance discovery in the village of Cullybackey Co. Antrim in 2006 reveals the documents relating to a previously unknown investigator of Ballymena Co. Antrim, one Brock Adair. Born in 1771 he and his colleague Charles Kinhilt, a solicitor from Cullybackey, conducted numerous investigations into crime in the Co. Antrim area and in the whole of Ireland. These were conducted prior to an established police force in Ireland. Charles Kinhilt had recorded the details of Brock Adair's investigations. He assisted Brock with these enquiries. Both Charles and Brock were educated locally in Ballymena and latterly at Trinity College Dublin. Brock Adair was called upon by the Local military commander Captain Dickey to assist with a number of enquiries. He gained a reputation of being an outstanding observer and investigator. This short story outlines the enquiries made by Brock Adair and Charles Kinhilt into the vicious murder of Florence McSorley in Meeting House Lane Ballymena in 1796. Brock investigates this vicious attack on the mother of two. It shocks the community. Will he be able to find the killer? This is one of a number of enquiries lead by Brock Adair.

Two dead bodies and a Christmas stocking weaponised. A Postman murdered delivering cards on Christmas morning. A Christmas tree growing over a forgotten homicide. It's the most wonderful time of the year, except for the victims of these shocking and often elaborate murders. When there's magic in the air, sometimes even the facts don't quite add up and the impossible can happen -- and it's up to the detective's trained eye to unwrap the clues and put together an explanation neatly tied up with a bow. Martin Edwards compiles an anthology filled with tales of seasonal suspense where the snow runs red, perfect to be shared between super-sleuths by the fire on a cold winter's night.
The "marvelous" British governess-turned-sleuth helps a new bride who fears her husband intends to murder her (Daily Mail). Former schoolteacher Miss Maud Silver is on her way back to London when, with a violent shudder of the train, a young woman is thrust into her compartment. She's beautiful, well dressed, newly married, and wealthy--a lethal combination. In a state of shock, Lisle Jerningham explains that she fled her home in a hurry after overhearing a sinister conversation. Her new husband's first wife died in an apparent accident, and the resultant infusion of cash saved his family home. Now, he's broke again--and attempting to engineer a second convenient mishap. Miss Silver is unsure whether the drama is real or a figment of Lisle's imagination--but if this frightened young lady is a target for murder, the killer will have to deal with the governess-turned-sleuth first. Starring a mature sleuth who "has her place in detective fiction as surely as Lord Peter Wimsey or Hercule Poirot", In the Balance is a classic British mystery (Manchester Evening News).
