Essentials of Robotic Surgery (Hardcover, 2015 ed.): Matthew Kroh, Sricharan Chalikonda Essentials of Robotic Surgery (Hardcover, 2015 ed.)
Matthew Kroh, Sricharan Chalikonda
R4,093 Discovery Miles 40 930 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Essentials of Robotic Surgery is designed to present a comprehensive and state-of-the-art approach to robotic surgery within the broad confines of general surgery. Sections address preliminary issues faced by surgeons who may be initially undertaking robotics. These areas include training, basic techniques and setup, as well as general troubleshooting. Subsequent chapters focus on specific disease processes and the robotic applications for those procedures. Written by experts in the field, each of these sections addresses patient selection, preoperative considerations, technical conduct of the most common operations, and avoiding complications. A brief review of the existing literature addressing the particular topic follows in each section. The text concludes with chapters on other robotic platforms beyond the only current FDA approved device (Intuitive Surgical) as well as future directions, including single-site, enhanced imaging, 3-D modeling, and tele-proctoring, including to and distant site surgery. Extensive illustrations and links to video make this an interactive text that will be of great value to general surgeons and associated sub-specialists, trainees including residents and fellows, fully trained surgeons looking to start a robotic surgery practice, and experienced robotic surgeons looking to expand the types of procedures that they currently perform robotically.

Inguinal Hernia Surgery (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2017): Giampiero Campanelli Inguinal Hernia Surgery (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2017)
Giampiero Campanelli
R4,287 Discovery Miles 42 870 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book, which describes in detail the most common procedures employed in inguinal hernia surgery, is exceptional in reflecting fully the most recent advances, as well as the most established techniques, in knowledge and practice. The role of recently developed and emerging technologies, including robotics, minimally invasive surgery, and biological meshes, is clearly explained, highlighting useful tips and tricks. The descriptions of traditional procedures, such as the Lichtenstein repair, are brought fully up to date and take into account the novel perceptions that professionals have of them, for example regarding the important role of nurses. The reader will also find guidance on established and new treatments for specific pain conditions, including postoperative chronic pain, the pubic inguinal pain syndrome, and obscure groin pain in women. The need for such an update on inguinal hernia surgery became clear at the 1st World Conference on Abdominal Wall Hernia Surgery, which highlighted the huge differences in the approaches adopted by scientists around the world and was chaired by the editor of this book. Inguinal Hernia Surgery will be a useful tool for all health care practitioners involved in hernia surgery.

Free Radial Artery Forearm Flap for Head and Neck Reconstruction - A Color Atlas (Paperback): Girish N Amlani, Dipen D Patel Free Radial Artery Forearm Flap for Head and Neck Reconstruction - A Color Atlas (Paperback)
Girish N Amlani, Dipen D Patel
R1,797 Discovery Miles 17 970 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

A radial forearm free flap is one way of filling a hole which is left when a cancer has been removed. It is one of the most common ways of replacing tissue in the head and neck, particularly after mouth cancers have been removed. It can be used to replace large parts of the mouth and has the advantage that when it heals it does not shrink so that hopefully speech and swallowing will not be greatly affected. For the procedure, a surgeon takes a piece of skin from the inside surface of the patient's forearm near the wrist. The skin and fat layer in this region are removed (the flap) along with two blood vessels, one of which supplies blood to the flap (the artery) and one of which drains blood from it (the vein). The vessel which supplies blood to the flap is the artery which gives rise to the pulse at the wrist at the base of the thumb. Once the flap of skin is raised it is transferred to the head and neck and sewn into the hole created by the removal of the cancer. The blood vessels supplying and draining the flap are then joined to blood vessels in the neck under a microscope. These blood vessels then keep the flap alive while it heals into its new place. Once the flap is removed from the forearm the hole created is covered with a graft of skin. This graft of skin can be taken from one of several places. Commonly a thin piece of skin is shaved from the arm above the elbow. Alternatively, some skin will be borrowed from the stomach. This highly illustrated colour atlas is a comprehensive guide to head and neck reconstruction using free radial artery forearm flap. Beginning with an introduction to the history of the technique and its advantages and disadvantages, the book then provides step by step guidance on surgical anatomy, pre- and post-operative care, surgical procedures, and potential complications. A selection of case studies is included to assist learning. Key points Colour atlas explaining radial forearm free flap for head and neck reconstruction Presented as step by step guide through procedures and pre- and post-operative care Includes case studies to assist learning Highly illustrated with surgical images and diagrams

This book encompasses many different diagnoses as well as several specialties of practicing surgeons in the United States. Over the last ten years many advances have been made in preoperative assessment including imaging and diagnostic techniques, operative approaches including "minimally invasive" and robotic surgery, and post operative care. Controversies in Thyroid Surgery explores some of the controversies that arise as the result of these new findings and applications. The book is divided into the two categories of benign diagnosis and cancer topics. Both of these areas lend themselves to separate analysis of specific problems in the areas mentioned above. The text reviews recent data about advances in diagnostic techniques as well as outcomes with specific regards to the newer operative techniques. The textbook will serve as a resource for medical and surgical colleagues involved in the treatment of a wide variety of thyroid diseases. Authors that are experts in their field and have published extensively provide balanced and non-biased views of topics that are admittedly controversial. Controversies in Thyroid Surgery will be of great value and utility to practicing endocrinologists, general surgeons and otolaryngologists.
