This book introduces recent development of technologies for mine waste management in China. For hard rock mines, the main mine wastes are tailings, and the tailings can be disposed above-ground and/or underground. The technology of consolidated tailings stockpile (CTS) that disposes tailings above-ground is introduced, and the application of this technology is also demonstrated. Besides, the technology of cemented tailings (or paste) backfill (CTB or CPB) which deals with tailings underground is also discussed. The properties of CTB materials and the utilization of CTB technology are described and analyzed. For coal mines, the main mine wastes are coal gangue and fly ash. The technology of cemented coal gangue-fly ash backfill (CGFB) that manages coal mine waste underground is presented. This book focuses on the geological characteristics and genesis of several base metal deposits in the northern margin of the North China Plate, namely the Bainaimiao Cu-Au-Mo, the Huogeqi Cu-Pb-Zn, the Dongshengmiao Zn-Pb-Cu and the Jiashengpan Zn-Pb deposits. These deposits have geological and geochemical affinities with orogenic-type deposits, such as shear zone-controlled mineralization and carbon-rich low-salinitiy ore-forming fluids, and are characterized by multistage ore-forming histories. Remobilization of the pre-enriched (stratabound or porphyry-type) base metals took place as responses to orogenesis and metamorphism, leading to metal redistribution and the formation of orogenic-type orebodies. The formation of orogenic-type base metal deposits is enigmatic, and the case studies presented in this book provide insights into understanding the genesis of this type of deposits. In particular, pre-enrichment of base metals seems to be important, in terms of preconditioning for later shear zone-controlled mineralization, since base metals are believed to have limited solubilities in the low-salinity ore-fluids.

Minerals respond texturally and compositionally to changing magmatic environments and preserve a wealth of information regarding magmatic processes and compositions in their crystal-growth stratigraphy. This book reports the detailed petrography and in-situ geochemistry of the clinopyroxene phenocrysts of the mafic dykes in the Jiaodong Peninsula, southeastern North China Craton, including in-situ determinations of major elements, trace elements, Sr isotopic compositions, and H2O contents with further constraints on the petrogenesis and geodynamics of the mafic dykes. Systematic analyses of mineralogical, major, and trace elements, Sr-Nd isotopes, and in-situ S isotopes on the pyrite of the main gold-bearing mineral assemblages and visible gold were conducted, aiming to explore the source of ore-forming materials and the process of Au element migration and deposition. The geodynamic setting of mineralization in the studied region is also summarized.
