The Ultimate Guide to Softball Nutrition will teach you how to
increase your RMR (resting metabolic rate) to accelerate your
metabolism and help you change your body for good. Learn how to get
in top shape and reach your ideal weight through smart nutrition so
that you can perform at your very best. Eating complex
carbohydrates, protein, and natural fats in the right amount and
percentages as well as increasing your RMR will make you faster,
more agile, and more resistant. This book will help you to:
-Prevent getting cramps. -Get injured less often. -Recover faster
after competing or training. -Have more energy before, during, and
after competition. By eating right and improving the way you feed
your body you will also reduce injuries and be less prone to them
in the future. Being too thick or too thin are two common reasons
injuries happen and is the main reason most athletes have trouble
reaching their peak performance. Three nutrition plan options are
explained in detail. You can choose which one is best for you
depending on your overall physical condition. One of the first
changes most people who start this nutrition plan see is endurance.
They get less tired and have more energy. Any athlete who wants to
be in the best shape ever needs to read this book and start making
long term changes that will get them where they want to be. No
matter where you are right now or what you're doing, you can always
improve yourself. EAT RIGHT TO WIN MORE Joseph Correa is a
certified sports nutritionist and a professional athlete.
A FASTPITCH SOFTBALL BOOK FOR GIRLS or THE GIRL IN YOU The crack of
the bat creates drama on the diamond, but in a girls fastpitch
softball league, the drama bleeds off the field and into the lives
of the players, coaches, parents, and fans. With fast-paced G-rated
action, the umpire screams "PLAY BALL" and the games begin, merging
the real world of young 10 - 13 year old females with the
competitive spirit and passion for winning fastpitch softball
games. Imagine the emotional excitement as egos fly and dust
settles. Feel their pain and their joy as this beautiful story
unfolds into an unforgettable ending. A beautiful fastpitch
softball book for girls or the girl in you.
The goal of this book is to serve as a refresher for those who know
the fundamentals, and to serve as a primer for those who don't.
While intended to show slow-pitch softball players how to improve
their game, this book will be helpful to fast-pitch softball and
baseball players as well. After all, most of the principles in this
book apply to any game played on a diamond, from Little League to
high school and adult softball leagues to the Major Leagues. Most
of us will encounter opposing players who can run faster, hit
harder, and throw further than we can. But that doesn't mean we
have to concede victory. Maybe we can run fast longer, hit more
consistently, and throw more accurately. If you're willing to learn
and invest in some off-field training, you can often overcome
superior athletic skills possessed by the opposition. This book is
intended to give you the tools needed to amplify your natural
skills. I have played organized ball for over 60 years and,
fortunately, I got off to a good start, thanks to fundamentals
instilled in me from the very beginning. I began playing organized
baseball in early grade school and continued playing summer
baseball for the next 10 years under the tutelage of legendary Iowa
coach George Engebretson. George coached baseball in the
ultra-small town of Rembrandt (200 souls). Nearly every team his
charges played against came from much larger towns, yet George's
teams were nearly always victorious because he had his players so
well grounded in fundamentals. Opposing teams were seldom so well
taught. Thus, even when an opposing team had superior athletes, as
was often the case, George's team was still dominant. I also played
high school baseball for some excellent coaches. Those coaches had
an easier job than most because George had already smoothed the
rough edges of all the players. Let me hasten to add that those
high school coaches taught us quite a bit, too, but they didn't
have to start at square one, thanks to George. Coaches Hulsebus,
Skogerboe, and Rath could focus on the more advanced nuances of the
game and they did a wonderful job. Following high school, I didn't
play organized ball while working my way through DeVry Technical
Institute (now DeVry University) in Chicago. Once I had graduated
there and settled into a career, I resumed playing ball, this time
softball, and have played almost continuously ever since. In the
2013 National Senior Games, my team won gold medals in our age
group; three teammates and I were selected as All-Americans (wish
George was still around to see that ). I often see players who were
never taught the proper fundamentals of playing ball or, if they
were, the lessons never stuck. For every player I see fitting that
description, I'd wager they cost their team about a run per game,
on average. That could get very expensive if there is more than one
of those players on a team, especially if their opponents have no
such handicap. The first chapters of this book will describe the
things that a player should do automatically while playing
softball. Succeeding chapters will suggest things a player can do
to improve his game when not on the field, things I believe will
help any player enhance his natural abilities. Incidentally, please
excuse my apparent sexism in this volume. I realize that females
play softball and will read this book, too, hopefully. When you see
masculine pronouns, I'm just trying to keep it simple. That makes
it so much easier than using something like "he/she" or some other
gender-neutral term. Rest assured that I'm directing my thoughts to
both sexes. Softball is one athletic endeavor in which you can
participate almost your entire life. With the growth of senior
softball, there's really no reason to hang up your cleats until
physical infirmities arise, but even those often can be forestalled
with proper conditioning. I hope this book helps you enjoy even
more the game we all love.
From the 60s to the 90s, the Golden Age of Kenosha Softball was a
special time. This book will take the reader through a midwestern
city, when thousands of people were playing the game of softball,
on hundreds of teams. It was an era when managers got in line at
the local recreation department as early as midnight in late
February, to ensure a coveted spot in a league for their team.
"More Kenosha Softball" is not only full of times, dates, and
places with who won and who lost but it is also filled with many
profiles of the legendary players, managers, umpires, and
characters that made up this very special era.

This book is a comprehensive drill book intended to help beginner
and advanced pitchers, coaches, and parents. The content moves
through the proper pitching progression from learning the basic
mechanics to developing the movement pitches. A look at pitching
from a former professional catcher's perspective provides insight
into the pitcher/catcher "battery." The importance of the pitcher's
mental preparation to manage the game is discussed. Practicing
needs to be fun or the pitcher will soon get bored. This book also
introduces fun activities, some that don't even need a softball,
which focus on specific areas of the pitch. Have fun
Sports define Marion. In the early 1920s, she would rather play
ball with the boys in her backyard cow pasture than with dolls.
Between family duties, it is there that she hones her batting and
fielding skills. In 1936, upon graduation from Malden High School,
she earns a spot as first baseman for the women's professional
softball team: The Boston Olympets, who, during World War II,
played in the Boston Garden and other arenas against rivals
throughout New England and Canada. These ladies might be considered
the "dream team" of women, some of whose lives and plays at the
plate were later portrayed in the movie "A League of Their Own" by
Rosie O'Donnell, Madonna, and Geena Davis. Fate and Uncle Sam
intervened for Marion, however, and she was unable to become one of
those Racine Belles. Glory and fame seemed lost forever-or so it
would seem. Time has passed and new opponents have come to
challenge her. At war with illness-cancer, broken bones, and
congestive heart failure-she has persevered, sporting her
characteristic positive attitude. Now is her time; she has earned
her glory, and, at 90+ years, Marion remains In A League of "Her"
Own.

In "The Meaning of Sports," Michael Mandelbaum, a sports fan who is
also one of the nation's preeminent foreign policy thinkers,
examines America's century-long love affair with team sports. In
keeping with his reputation for writing about big ideas in an
illuminating and graceful way, he shows how sports respond to deep
human needs; describes the ways in which baseball, football and
basketball became national institutions and how they reached their
present forms; and covers the evolution of rules, the rise and fall
of the most successful teams, and the historical significance of
the most famous and influential figures such as Babe Ruth, Vince
Lombardi, and Michael Jordan.
Whether he is writing about baseball as the agrarian game,
football as similar to warfare, basketball as the embodiment of
post-industrial society, or the moral havoc created by baseball's
designated hitter rule, Mandelbaum applies the full force of his
learning and wit to subjects about which so many Americans care
passionately: the games they played in their youth and continue to
follow as adults. By offering a fresh and unconventional
perspective on these games, "The Meaning of Sports" makes for
fascinating and rewarding reading both for fans and newcomers.

A CIVIL WAR is an unforgettable portrait of college football in the purest form: two teams that play for the love of the game and for the honour of their respective schools, rather than for money or fame. As Feinstein follows the Army and Navy football teams through a single season, he takes us into the locker rooms, onto the playing fields and inside the lives of the players and coaches. His book captures the personalities and the behind-the-scenes struggles - culminates in a vivid account of the teams' dramatic December face-off, a stratling come-from-behind victory that resulted in a daredevil fourth-down touchdown attempt. In a new afterword to the paperback edition, Feinstein reflects on the extraordinary 1996 season, which saw both teams achieve their best records in decades and win bowl-game berths
