Design and Implementation of Portable Impedance Analyzers (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019): Abdulwadood A. Al-Ali, Brent J. Maundy,... Design and Implementation of Portable Impedance Analyzers (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019)
Abdulwadood A. Al-Ali, Brent J. Maundy, Ahmed S. Elwakil
R1,408 Discovery Miles 14 080 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The increasing interest in the bio-impedance analysis in various fields has increased the demand for portable and low-cost impedance analyzers that can be used in the field. Simplifying the hardware is crucial to maintaining low-cost and portability, but this is not an easy task due to the need for accurate phase and magnitude measurements. This book discusses different portable impedance analyzers design techniques. Additionally, complete designs using two different approaches are reported. The first approach utilizes a commercially available single chip solution while the second one is based on a new measurement technique that eliminates the need to measure the phase by using a software algorithm to extract it from the magnitude information. Applications to the measurement of fruit bio-impedance are emphasized and compared with measurements from professional stand-alone impedance analyzers.

Intelligent Audio Analysis (Hardcover, 2013 ed.): Bjoern W. Schuller Intelligent Audio Analysis (Hardcover, 2013 ed.)
Bjoern W. Schuller
R2,703 Discovery Miles 27 030 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book provides the reader with the knowledge necessary for comprehension of the field of Intelligent Audio Analysis. It firstly introduces standard methods and discusses the typical Intelligent Audio Analysis chain going from audio data to audio features to audio recognition. Further, an introduction to audio source separation, and enhancement and robustness are given. After the introductory parts, the book shows several applications for the three types of audio: speech, music, and general sound. Each task is shortly introduced, followed by a description of the specific data and methods applied, experiments and results, and a conclusion for this specific task. The books provides benchmark results and standardized test-beds for a broader range of audio analysis tasks. The main focus thereby lies on the parallel advancement of realism in audio analysis, as too often today's results are overly optimistic owing to idealized testing conditions, and it serves to stimulate synergies arising from transfer of methods and leads to a holistic audio analysis.

Volumetric Image Analysis (Hardcover, New): G Lohmann Volumetric Image Analysis (Hardcover, New)
G Lohmann
R5,889 Discovery Miles 58 890 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Volumetric, or three-dimensional, digital imaging now plays a vital role in many areas of research such as medicine and geology. Medical images acquired by tomographic scanners for instance are often given as a stack of cross-sectional image slices. Such images are called ‘volumetric’ because they depict objects in their entire three-dimensional extent rather than just as a projection onto a two-dimensional image plane. Since huge amounts of volumetric data are continually being produced in many places around the world, techniques for their automatic analysis become ever more important. Written by a computer vision specialist, this clear, detailed account of volumetric image analysis techniques provides a practical approach to the field including the following topics:

  • preprocessing of volumetric images
  • obtaining quantitative measurements in volumetric images
  • detection and modelling of objects in volumetric images
To students without prior knowledge of computer vision this book will serve as a self-contained comprehensive introduction. Experienced practitioners and researchers will find it a helpful reference and a source of high level case material.

Introduction to Photorefractive Nonlinear Optics (Hardcover): P. Yeh Introduction to Photorefractive Nonlinear Optics (Hardcover)
P. Yeh
R6,482 Discovery Miles 64 820 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Nonlinear optical media have already opened up a universe rich in technological possibilities. Holograms can be recorded and erased in these media. And nonlinear optical media, such as photorefractive crystals, are highly efficient, particularly for wave mixing and phase conjugation. To make effective use of these media for the transmission and manipulation of optical information requires a clear understanding of the theory at the root of the entire phenomenon. Designed as a reference for advanced students in the area of modern optics for electrical engineering and applied physics, Introduction to Photorefractive Non-linear Optics not only sheds light on the field's basic underlying theorem but also clearly links it with practical applications, forming the first introductory textbook to balance both. While clearly illuminating such practical applications as optical computing and neural networks, the book's emphasis throughout is on the theory of the propagation of optical waves and the mixing of electromagnetic radiation in nonlinear optical media. In a progressive format that moves from the elementary to the complex, the book begins with the basics of electromagnetic waves and periodic structures, examining the physics of photorefractive effects and the mixing of waves in these media. Classical electrodynamics is used to describe the mixing of waves in photorefractive media. Concepts in elementary solid state physics are also used to clarify the discussion on the transport of charges in photorefractive crystals. Following chapters take an in-depth look at optical phase conjugators and photorefractive resonators. The fundamental principles of gratings and holograms are examined inchapters 7 and 8. The manifold applications in optical information processing, optical interconnection, and neural networks are clearly detailed in the following three chapters. The last chapter is devoted to a timely look at the higher order photorefractive effect in optical fibers. The result of the collective research and development conducted by scientists over the years at the Rockwell International Science Center, this important reference is an unprecedented inside look at the innovations at the technology's leading edge. Illustrating theory with useful numerical examples based on real situations, the book provides students with a clear practical grasp of the essentials of the science as well as the technology's day-to-day applications. Not simply a monograph, Introduction to Photorefractive Nonlinear Optics is, instead, a comprehensive introductory guide to understanding - and using - this fascinating evolving technology.

Arild Velure
R4,238 Discovery Miles 42 380 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

To cope with the new running conditions in the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, a new integrated circuit named SAMPA has been created that can process 32 analogue channels, convert them to digital, perform filtering and compression, and transmit the data on high speed links to the data acquisition system. The main purpose of this work is to specify, design, test and verify the digital signal processing part of the SAMPA device to accommodate the requirements of the detectors involved. Innovative solutions have been employed to reduce the bandwidth required by the detectors, as well as adaptations to ease data handling later in the processing chain. The new SAMPA device was built to replace two existing circuits, in addition to reducing the current consumption, and doubling the amount of processing channels. About 50000 of the devices will be installed in the Time Projection Chamber and Muon Chamber detectors in the ALICE experiment.

Tom Backstroem
R4,008 Discovery Miles 40 080 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book provides scientific understanding of the most central techniques used in speech coding both for advanced students as well as professionals with a background in speech audio and or digital signal processing. It provides a clear connection between the Why's?, How's?, and What's, such that the necessity, purpose and solutions provided by tools should be always within sight, as well as their strengths and weaknesses in each respect. Equivalently, this book sheds light on the following perspectives for each technology presented: Objective: What do we want to achieve and especially why is this goal important? Resource / Information: What information is available and how can it be useful? Resource / Platform: What kind of platforms are we working with and what are the capabilities/restrictions of those platforms? This includes properties such as computational, memory, acoustic and transmission capacity of devices used. Solutions: Which solutions have been proposed and how can they be used to reach the stated goals? Strengths and weaknesses: In which ways do the solutions fulfill the objectives and where are they insufficient? Are resources used efficiently? This book concentrates solely on code excited linear prediction and its derivatives since mainstream speech codecs are based on linear prediction It also concentrates exclusively on time domain techniques because frequency domain tools are to a large extent common with audio codecs.
