The Works of Aleister Crowley [Three volumes] (Paperback): Aleister Crowley The Works of Aleister Crowley [Three volumes] (Paperback)
Aleister Crowley
R964 Discovery Miles 9 640 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

2012 Reprint of Original Three Volume s First Published from 1905-1907. Exact facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. This is a collection of Crowley's early esoteric writings and poetry and comprise the first collected edition of his writings. Aleister Crowley, born Edward Alexander Crowley, and also known as both Frater Perdurabo and The Great Beast, was an influential English occultist, mystic, ceremonial magician, poet and mountaineer, who was responsible for founding the religious philosophy of Thelema. In his role as the founder of the Thelemite philosophy, he came to see himself as the prophet who was entrusted with informing humanity that it was entering the new Aeon of Horus in the early 20th century. Born into a wealthy upper class family, as a young man he became an influential member of the esoteric Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn after befriending the order's leader, Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers. Subsequently believing that he was being contacted by his Holy Guardian Angel, an entity known as Aiwass, while staying in Egypt in 1904, he "received" a text known as 'The Book of the Law' from what he believed was a divine source, and around which he would come to develop his new philosophy of Thelema. He would go on to found his own occult society and eventually rose to become a leader of Ordo Templi Orientis (O.T.O.), before founding a religious commune in Cefalu known as the Abbey of Thelema, which he led from 1920 through till 1923. After abandoning the Abbey amid widespread opposition, Crowley returned to Britain, where he continued to promote Thelema until his death. Crowley has remained an influential figure and is widely thought of as the most influential occultist of all time. Includes: Volume 1. Aceldama. The tale of Archais. Songs of the spirit. The poem. A Treatise on White Magic - Or the Way of the Disciple (Paperback): Alice Bailey A Treatise on White Magic - Or the Way of the Disciple (Paperback)
Alice Bailey
R794 Discovery Miles 7 940 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

2012 Reprint of 1945 Edition. Exact facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. "A Treatise on White Magic" is considered to be one of her most important writings, as it is less abstract than most, and deals with many important subjects of her works in an introductory, even programmatic fashion. It was first published in 1934 with the subtitle 'The Way of the Disciple'. She promulgated White Magic as a discipline to serve humanity. Bailey said the work was dictated telepathically by the Tibetan Master, Djwal Khul. It is offered as a "basic textbook" for the Western aspirant to initiation, and is divided into fifteen rules of magic, each one taking the reader further into the mysteries of spirituality. Topics discussed include: how an aspirant can best prepare himself for service, the various ray types of their influences, the relationship between the macrocosm and microcosm, the spiritual, causal, astral and physical realms and their interactions, the spiritual psychology of man (although this is dealt with much more fully in the Esoteric Psychology volumes), The Hierarchy of Masters, esoteric groups and schools, the spiritual centers (or chakras), the occult concept of the Seven Rays, meditation work and much more. One of the main themes is that of soul control. Students of the works of Alice A. Bailey and Theosophy believe that the ultimate purpose of White Magic is furtherance of the spiritual and material evolution of humanity. Specifically, this evolution is conceived in terms of the increased benevolent manifestation of seven spiritual energies or Seven Rays. It is further believed that adept practitioners of White Magic, wielding the power of the Seven Rays, can contribute to this evolution.

How To Know Higher Worlds (Paperback): Rudolf Steiner How To Know Higher Worlds (Paperback)
Rudolf Steiner
R469 Discovery Miles 4 690 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

2011 Reprint of 1947 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. This book is a manual for the attainment of knowledge of higher, more spiritual worlds. It opens new perspectives on the essential tasks of life. Not everyone can immediately achieve spiritual vision, but the discoveries of those who have it can be health-giving life nourishment for everyone. This process is facilitated by this manual. From 1899 until his death in 1925, Steiner articulated an ongoing stream of experiences that he claimed were of the spiritual world - experiences he said had touched him from an early age on. Steiner aimed to apply his training in mathematics, science, and philosophy to produce rigorous, verifiable presentations of those experiences. Steiner believed that through freely chosen ethical disciplines and meditative training, anyone could develop the ability to experience the spiritual world, including the higher nature of oneself and others. Steiner believed that such discipline and training would help a person to become a more moral, creative and free individual - free in the sense of being capable of actions motivated solely by love.

The Key to Theosophy - with original 30-page annotated glossary (Paperback): Helena Petrovna Blavatsky The Key to Theosophy - with original 30-page annotated glossary (Paperback)
Helena Petrovna Blavatsky
R398 Discovery Miles 3 980 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Born at Ekaterinoslav in Southern Russia, Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (n e von Hahn) contracted an unconsummated marriage at 17, and spent the next quarter of a century in a variety of adventures, visiting most of Europe, Turkey, Egypt, South America, Mexico, USA, Japan Java and India, and crowning her travels with a trip to Tibet by way of Kashmir and Ladkh. Aware of the world's spiritual dimension since childhood, it was during this latter journey that she underwent her most intense esoteric training, obtaining occult insights and experiences that led to the publication of her magnum opus, the massive and densely argued 'Secret Doctrine'.'The Key to Theosophy' is a much gentler introduction into the aims and tenets of the society she co-founded to spread knowledge of this 'Divine Wisdom'. The author describes in precise, logical terms the structure of the super-sensible worlds, humanity's spiritual evolution, and the common set of basic principles that lie behind the world's religions. Theosophy considers itself a repository for "the accumulated Wisdom of the ages, tested and verified by generations of Seers..." This book is must-read for all serious occultists and will repay serious study.

The Kybalion; A Study of the Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece, by Three Initiates (Paperback): "Three Initiates" The Kybalion; A Study of the Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece, by Three Initiates (Paperback)
"Three Initiates"
R282 Discovery Miles 2 820 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

2011 Reprint of 1905 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. "The Kybalion," first published in 1905, claims to be the essence of the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus. It was published anonymously by a group or person under the pseudonym of "the Three Initiates." The book purports to be based upon ancient Hermeticism, though many of its ideas are relatively modern concepts arising from the New Thought movement. Rumored to be an ancient Egyptian man-god who fathered astrology, alchemy, and other magical arts, the figure of Hermes has fascinated readers of occult literature for generations. Writers in late antiquity named Hermes Trismegistus as the author of their own esoteric teachings, building the mystery of his lineage. Since 1905, The Kybalion-written at the hand of the unnamed "Three Initiates"-has itself generated debate and controversy. Who is behind it? Do its ideas really arise from the secrets of a distant era? And, most important, do they work for the modern seeker? In this concise, engaging guide, the pseudonymous author breaks down Hermetic doctrine into seven compelling principles, and then provides practical methods for how to apply them for self-development in daily life.

Taking Up the Challenge (Paperback): Eric Hatton Taking Up the Challenge (Paperback)
Eric Hatton
R463 Discovery Miles 4 630 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

'Taking up the challenge' is the story of one man's determination to find an answer to the question we will all ask at some time or another - Is there life after death? When Eric Hatton's much-loved brother was killed in1946, he was determined to embark on his own investigation. Thus began a quest for evidence which has so far spanned more than six decades. During that time Eric has become one of Spiritualism's best-known figures, respected for his transparent integrity and the level-headed approach he brings to the examination of evidence for survival beyond death. An accomplished speaker and broadcaster, Eric has shared a platform with many of the greatest mediums the Spiritualist movement has produced. Though his experiences of the next world - some of them breathtaking - have left him with a complete conviction of the reality of the afterlife, his career as a successful businesman has meant that his feet have always been planted firmly on the ground. Eric's extraordinary story is at times challenging and at others heartwarming. Above all, it is the startlingly honest and inspiring account of a man who had to find out the truth for himself.

Findings - In Metaphysic, Path, and Lore, A Response to the Traditionalist/Perennialist School (Paperback): Charles Upton Findings - In Metaphysic, Path, and Lore, A Response to the Traditionalist/Perennialist School (Paperback)
Charles Upton
R606 Discovery Miles 6 060 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Traditionalist or Perennialist School of metaphysics, esoterism, and comparative religion, 'founded' by Ren Gunon and Ananda K. Coomaraswamy, and carried on by such figures as Frithjof Schuon, Titus Burckhardt, and Martin Lings, produced a body doctrine of rare depth and comprehension, effectively re-introducing to the modern and postmodern West the perennial wisdom of the human race. For the past twenty years, the author has immersed himself in these teachings, and made his own modest contribution to them. The three fundamental pillars of 'classical' Traditionalism / Perennialism are, (1) That God has sent more than one revelation to humanity, established more than one version of the Path by which the spiritual traveler may return to Him, each revelation being a providential branch of the great tree known as the Primordial Tradition; (2) That while certainly there is a Sophia Perennis, a unanimous and perennial wisdom given by God and transmitted from the dawn of humanity down to the present day, there cannot in our time be a Religio Perennis, a single universal doctrine and practice based on the Primordial Tradition; consequently the seeker must seek his vehicle among one of the living orthodox revealed traditions, not in some "revival" of a universal faith, or the fragments of it, from ages dead and gone; (3) Given that the present cycle of manifestation is rapidly approaching dissolution, the seeker's perennial duty to break identification with the system of collective egotism known as This World, and give his allegiance to God Alone, must now be seen in light of the fact that This World is about to end. Some presently associated with the Traditionalist/Perennialist School, however, no longer hold to "classical Traditionalism/Perennialism" as I have defined it. I have written this book partly to articulate some of the basic tenets of the first two generations of the Traditionalist School, so as to provide interested readers with a relatively stable point of reference that will hopefully allow them to see just how, and how much, that School has changed in the first years of the 21st century.

Experience of the Inner Worlds (Paperback): Gareth Knight Experience of the Inner Worlds (Paperback)
Gareth Knight
R695 Discovery Miles 6 950 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Originally published in 1975, Experience of the Inner Worlds is a classic magical textbook of the Western Mystery Tradition. Covering a wide range of topics within a Christian-oriented Qabalistic framework, Gareth Knight explains the difference between magic and mysticism, natural and revealed religion, monism and theism. He also covers the practicalities, examining methods of inner plane communication, contact with the Masters, the 'consciousness' approach of Carl Jung, the vision of Dante and the archetypal power of the Hebrew alphabet - all within the context of the Qabalistic Tree of Life. The book also contains powerful visualisation exercises and examples of communication with angelic and elemental contacts. While this book can be used as a course of self-instruction, it is also an important modern reference book of magical theory and practice, and has been used for decades by students of Western Qabalah and magic.

Red Tree, White Tree - Faeries and Humans in Partnership (Paperback): Wendy Berg Red Tree, White Tree - Faeries and Humans in Partnership (Paperback)
Wendy Berg
R620 Discovery Miles 6 200 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

"The most important and challenging book on Arthurian and Grail tradition for many a long year." - Gareth Knight. The relationship between human and Faery lies at the very core of the Arthurian stories. In this radical re-evaluation of the Grail legends, Wendy Berg brings the ancient mythology of the British Isles into sharp focus centred around the marriage of King Arthur to the Faery Gwenevere and the origin and destiny of the Grail Hallows. Drawing upon numerous Arthurian sources and other related texts from the Book of Genesis to The Lord of the Rings, she explores the magical ritual underpinning of the legends and their connection to the ancient stellar deities of Britain. "When these stories are read with the additional level of understanding that they are for the most part a record of the lives and relationships of Faeries and humans working together about the Round Table, they immediately become not only a great deal more interesting, but also acquire a new and vivid relevance for the present day."

The Priory of Sion - Shedding Light on the Treasure and Legacy of Rennes-le-Chateau and the Priory of Sion (Paperback):... The Priory of Sion - Shedding Light on the Treasure and Legacy of Rennes-le-Chateau and the Priory of Sion (Paperback)
Jean-Luc Chaumeil; Translated by Chantal Low
R687 Discovery Miles 6 870 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The mysteries of Rennes-le-Chateau and the Priory of Sion have gripped the imagination of modern culture, producing factual and fictional best-sellers which have spun webs of mystery and speculation. Works like The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, The Templar Revelation and The DaVinci Code are all united in drawing much of their information from the research of the only man who has uncovered the true story of the Priory of Sion from the inside, French author and journalist Jean-Luc Chaumeil. Now for the first time, his revelations and the research which fuelled the whole movement are made available in English, providing the most revealing and coherent exploration of the web of ciphers, genealogies, secret societies and esoteric mysteries which surround the tangled tapestry of bloodlines, lost kings and hidden treasures. Jean-Luc Chaumeil's discoveries are all brought together in a wealth of documents, experiences, ciphers, interviews and intelligence reports which combine his three French works (Rennes-le-Chateau: Les Archives du Prieure de Sion; Rennes-le-Chateau - Gisors; and Rennes-le-Chateau: Le Testament du Prieure de Sion) on these intriguing modern myths which have been derived from ancient knowledge and truths. The nature of the treasure of Rennes-le-Chateau is discussed, from claims of buried treasure sacked by the Goths from Rome and containing the artefacts of the Temple of Jerusalem, to gold made by the alchemist Nicholas Flamel, to drops of the blood of Christ saved by Joseph of Arimathea and Mary Magdalene. The author reveals the truth behind the bloodline of the Merovingian Kings, and the treasure allegedly found by Father Berenger Sauniere at the turn of the twentieth century, and spent on the Magdala Tower with its statue of Asmodeus. He shows how history has been re-interpreted through clever manipulation by a few individuals, exploring the origins of the Order of Sion and its connection to John the Baptist, as well as the schism with the Knights Templar. This book is the definitive work on Rennes-le-Chateau and the Priory of Sion by the only man who has had access to all the major players, places and papers, containing copies of key documents such as Stone and Paper (Pierre et Papier), and vital information gleaned from his contact with the propagators of the Priory of Sion - Pierre Plantard, Phillipe de Cherisey and Gerard de Sede.

Studies on the Foundation Stone Meditation (Paperback): Valentin Tomberg Studies on the Foundation Stone Meditation (Paperback)
Valentin Tomberg; Edited by James Richard Wetmore; Introduction by Robert Powell
R431 Discovery Miles 4 310 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In the unfolding of a true spiritual mission upon the Earth, the great teachers of humanity work together. An example of this working together to fulfill a spiritual mission for humanity is presented to us in this book. It is a matter in this work of a collaboration between two great spiritual teachers of humanity in the twentieth century: Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) and Valentin Tomberg (1900-1973). Rudolf Steiner's life work culminated in the 'baptismal event' for the Second Coming of Christ expressed in the Foundation Stone of Love and clothed in the words of the Foundation Stone meditation. Valentin Tomberg, after his spiritual awakening in 1932, entered into the Mystery of Christ's Second Coming. His Studies on the Foundation Stone Meditation, published in critical years of world history (1936-1939), were written just a few years after his spiritual awakening. They penetrate into the Mystery of Christ's Second Coming by offering the reader access from within to the Foundation Stone meditation given to humanity by Christ through Rudolf Steiner. Every sentence of these studies - born of living experience undergone by Valentin Tomberg - leads the reader into the sublime mystery of the spirit awakening of humanity through Christ in our time. Understood as a manual for enlightenment, to be worked with meditatively over and over again, this work is one of the great treasures of humanity's spiritual literature - a priceless jewel for every spiritual seeker in our time.

David Rankine; Translated by Paul Harry Barron
R776 Discovery Miles 7 760 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Le Livre d'Or (The Book of Gold) is a unique 17th century French magical work comprising numerous amulets, charms, prayers, spells and sigils for working with the Biblical Book of the Psalms of King David. Written in a simple style akin to a medieval Book of Secrets combined with magical practices from the ancient world, Le Livre d'Or brings together practices which have their roots in major works from the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Cairo Genizah, to the Greek Magical Papyri and Sepher Shimmush Tehillim (Magical Use of the Psalms). Now translated into English for the first time, this exceptional text demonstrates the significance of the Psalms as a unifying and vital thread throughout the development of Western magic. From Sweden to Syria, Britain to the Baltic, the use of appropriate Psalms has spread as a significant part of popular folk and religious magic, and Le Livre d'Or is an inimitable example of the transmission of divine power through the written and spoken word. Le Livre d'Or was originally bound as part of Lansdowne MS 1202 with a 17th century French copy of the most important of grimoires, the Key of Solomon. The extensive commentary by David Rankine and Paul Harry Barron emphasises the place of the Psalms within the Grimoire tradition, detailing their extensive apotropaic, amuletic and coercive uses in works such as the Book of Abramelin, the Key of Solomon and the Goetia. The editors also illustrate how the magic of the Psalms has underlain and cross-fertilised numerous traditions over the last two thousand years, from Hellenic magicians, early Christians and Jews of the ancient world to practitioners of the medieval Grimoires and Renaissance Cunning-folk. Whether it was for benevolent or malefic results, Le Livre d'Or provided the appropriate Psalm verses and relevant techniques. This previously ignored work is an outstanding example of eminently practical magic which not only draws on such major works as the Heptameron and the Steganographia, but also many of the divine names found in the Kabbalah. From Saints to spirits, characters to Creeds, Le Livre d'Or shines forth as a significant and reclaimed chapter in the Western Esoteric Traditions.

When Prophecy Fails - A Social and Psychological Study of a Modern Group That Predicted the Destruction of the World... When Prophecy Fails - A Social and Psychological Study of a Modern Group That Predicted the Destruction of the World (Paperback)
Leon Festinger, Henry Riecken, Stanley Schachter
R332 Discovery Miles 3 320 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

2009 reprint of 1956 First edition. When Prophecy Fails [1956] is a classic text in social psychology authored by Leon Festinger, Henry Riecken, and Stanley Schachter. It chronicles the experience of a UFO cult that believed the end of the world was at hand. In effect, it is a social and psychological study of a modern group that predicted the destruction of the world, and the adjustments made when the prediction failed to materialize. "The authors have done something as laudable as it is unusual for social psychologists. They espied a fleeting social movement important to a line of research they were interested in and took after it. They recruited a team of observers, joined the movement, and watched it from within under great difficulties until its crisis came and went. Their report is of interest as much for the method as for the substance."-Everett C. Hughes, The American Journal of Sociology.

Manly Hall
R445 Discovery Miles 4 450 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

2009 reprint of 1932 First edition. Manly Palmer Hall (1901-1990) was a Canadian-born author and mystic. He is perhaps most famous for his work The Secret Teachings of All Ages: An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy, published in 1928 when he was 27 years old. In 1934, Hall founded the Philosophical Research Society (PRS) in Los Angeles, California, dedicating it to an idealistic approach to the solution of human problems. The PRS claims to be non-sectarian and entirely free from educational, political, or ecclesiastical control, and the Society's programs stress the need for the integration of philosophy, religion, and science into one system of instruction. The PRS Library, a public facility devoted to source materials in obscure fields, has many rare and scarce items now impossible to obtain elsewhere. In his over 70-year career, Hall delivered approximately 8,000 lectures in the United States and abroad, authored over 150 books and essays, and wrote countless magazine articles.

Francis Barrett
R772 Discovery Miles 7 720 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Its author is as mysterious as its subject matter. The one appearance of English occultist FRANCIS BARRETT (b. circa 1770) upon the literary scene is this mammoth 1801 work, a complete study of ritual magic, in practice and in its theoretical underpinnings. Drawing on numerous works of the arcane and the occult, this one-of-a-kind book ignited a fervor for magic, in all its forms, in the Europe in the early 19th century, and may have even influenced Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon Church.Subtitling his tome Celestial Intelligencer, Barrett promises here to present a "complete system of occult philosophy," containing the "ancient and modern practice of the Cabalistic art," and showing "the wondering effects that may be performed by a Knowledge of the celestial influences, the occult properties of metals, herbs, and stones." Alchemy, talismanic magic, magnetism, ceremonial magic, the conjuration of spirits... Barrett reveals the secrets of all these disciplines, and more.Featuring all the original charts, diagrams, and illustrations, and including Barrett's biographies of famous occultists from Agrippa to Zoroaster, this is a fascinating work of occult and cultural history.
