This range consists of seventy-five carefully crafted colors, all made with Walnut Oil apart from a Fast-drying White, which contains an alkyd resin, and a Titanium White which uses Sunflower Oil.

Most modern paintmakers use Linseed Oil as a binder for their oil paints, occasionally making use of non-yellowing oils such as Safflower or Poppyseed oil for whites and pale colors. M. Graham Artists’ Oil Paints are made with Walnut Oil, a clear, free-flowing, slow-drying and non-yellowing oil which was used extensively by the artists of the European Renaissance. The pure American Walnut Oil used by M. Graham dries to a clear film which will not yellow, allowing the true color of the pigments to shine through.

These excellent quality oil paints can be mixed with any other oil paints and mediums (even those that contain alkyd resins), and are all solvent-free. They flow more freely from the tube than most artist oils, and remain wet for longer.

This set includes five M. Graham oil paints in 37ml tubes: Azo Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, Napthol Red, Phthalocyanine Green and Titanium White. Also included are two 59ml M. Sennelier Oil Sticks are made of artist quality oil paint. The proportion of the oil is substituted with a neutral mineral, resulting in the stick appearance.

These oil sticks contain the highest quality pure pigments ground into vegetable oils selected for their low degree of yellowing over time. Oil sticks offer the same advantages as oil paint. The suppleness of use enables you to experiment with a variety of techniques. Contrary to oil paint, the drying process for the surface color film is rather quick; usually it takes a day. Before using an oil stick for the very first time, peel off the thin dry skin in order to release the paint. This thin layer will form again after you have used it.

Holbein Pigment Paste contains finely ground pigments suspended in a base of water, wetting agent, and dispersing agent. These intense colours have been developed as a base colourant with which to produce your own paint.

There are no binders, fillers, or other chemicals added. They can be used as they are for block printing and monoprinting, and can be combined with a watersoluble binder such as gum arabic or acrylic emulsion to produce paint. Mix with a few drops of water until the desired tint is achieved.

When not in use, keep the container tightly closed, and clean brushes and tools in warm water immediately after use.

Please note: Holbein Pigment Paste does not contain any binder on its own and is not suitable as an actual paint unless a watersoluble binder or adhesive agent is added. It is recommended to test a small amount first to ensure compatibility.

Pigment Paste cannot be used to produce oil paint.

Lino cutting is a relief printmaking process. The desired design is cut in reverse into the surface of the block with lino cutting tools. Once this process is complete, ink is applied to the raised (that is, uncut) areas of the block using a roller/brayer. The design can then be printed in a press or burnished by hand.
