The COVID-19 pandemic has posed significant risks to particular
communities and individuals, including indigenous communities,
migrant workers, refugees, transgender individuals, and the
homeless population. The disadvantaged population is overwhelmed by
deprivation, inequality, unemployment, and infections, both
communicable and non-communicable, which make them more vulnerable
to COVID-19 and its negative consequences. These marginalized
groups struggle to obtain an admirable political representation and
face marginalization and lack of access to health, education, and
social services. It is imperative that these marginalized groups
and their right to life and their livelihoods are supported,
especially when they are put at risk during global crises, such as
the COVID-19 pandemic. The Handbook of Research on the Impact of
COVID-19 on Marginalized Populations and Support for the Future
represents a way of acknowledging an improved, pandemic-free, and
prosperous environment for everyone in the future where society
does not leave behind any poor or marginalized individuals. The
book is a representation of the voice of the marginalized people in
the new normal attempting to draw on a comprehensive knowledge
bank, which includes anthropology, sociology, gender studies,
media, education, indigenous dimension, philosophy, bioethics, care
ethics, and more. This book focuses solely on the marginalized
people, examines the oppressed communities in depth, and provides
insights on how we should stand by these vulnerable people. This
book is a valuable tool for social workers, government bodies,
policymakers, social justice advocates, human rights activists,
researchers in gender and race studies, practitioners,
academicians, and students interested in how COVID-19 has impacted
marginalized populations and how social justice can be advocated
for in the future.
Recognizing that the health care field has undergone significant
changes in recent years, Case Management Adherence Guide 2020 helps
health care professionals gain and integrate skills and methods for
even more comprehensive assessments of clients, families, or their
support systems. The guide supports improvements in care planning,
care coordination, and care transitions. The guide is designed to
help case management professionals achieve measureable outcomes
with their interventions, rendering them more efficient, effective,
and valuable to their employers, clients, and treatment teams. It
provides readers with evidence-based assessment and intervention
tools to improve patient treatment adherence. The tools found
throughout the guide are in accordance with the standards set by
the Case Management Society of America. Dedicated chapters cover
the challenges in today's health care system, the important role
that case managers play in improving outcomes, care coordination,
and strategies for improving treatment and medication adherence.
Seventeen appendices provide tools and references for PREPARE,
shared decision-making, emotional intelligence, the Morisky
Medication Adherence Scale, STEPSforward, care transition,
telehealth resources, and more. Case Management Adherence Guide
2020 is an essential resource for future and practicing case
management professionals.
Population health and vulnerable populations have an impact on the
overall health status of communities and countries. This requires
recognition that we have serious disparities in health delivery and
outcomes that must be addressed in all healthcare settings. The
nursing profession has acknowledged these facts through its recent
standards and ethics; statements about racism, discrimination,
health equity, and disparities; and strategies to improve
population health. Designed to support current standards and goals
for the nursing profession, Health Equity and Disparities provides
students with a succinct yet vital exploration of health
disparities, their impact on health systems, and the ways in which
nursing professionals can promote more equitable health
experiences. The text addresses a broad range of topics, including
social determinants of health; social justice and economics;
diversity and disparities; and health literacy. Readers learn about
the promotion of diversity, inclusivity, and equity in nursing, as
well as the impact of health and social policies on health equity
and disparities. They are provided with strategies to improve and
sustain greater levels of health equity through collaboration,
partnerships, and transformative change. Health Equity and
Disparities is part of the Cognella Series on Public and Community
Health Nursing, a collection of concise, informative guides that
explore critical topical areas, their nursing application, and
their relationship to nursing practice.
NANOTECHNOLOGY IN MEDICINE Discover thorough insights into the
toxicology of nanomaterials used in medicine In Nanotechnology in
Medicine: Toxicity and Safety, an expert team of nanotechnologists
delivers a robust and up-to-date review of current and future
applications of nanotechnology in medicine with a special focus on
neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, diagnostics,
nano-nutraceuticals, dermatology, and gene therapy. The editors
offer resources that address nanomaterial safety, which tends to be
the greatest hurdle to obtaining the benefits of nanomedicine in
healthcare. The book is a one-stop resource for recent and
comprehensive information on the toxico logical and safety aspects
of nanotechnology used in human health and medicine. It provides
readers with cutting-edge techniques for delivering therapeutic
agents into targeted cellular compartments, cells, tissues, and
organs by using nanoparticulate carriers. The book also offers
methodological considerations for toxicity, safety, and risk
assessment. Nanotechnology in Medicine: Toxicity and Safety also
provides readers with: A thorough introduction to the
nanotoxicological aspects of nanomedicine, including translational
nanomedicine and nanomedicine personalization Comprehensive
introductions to nanoparticle toxicity and safety, including
selenium nanoparticles and metallic nanoparticles Practical
discussions of nanotoxicology and drug delivery, including gene
delivery using nanocarriers and the use of nanomaterials for ocular
delivery applications In-depth examinations of nanotechnology
ethics and the regulatory framework of nanotechnology and medicine
Perfect for researchers, post-doctoral candidates, and specialists
in the fields of nanotechnology, nanomaterials, and nanocarriers,
Nanotechnology in Medicine: Toxicity and Safety will also prove to
be an indispensable part of the libraries of nanoengineering,
nanomedicine, and biopharmaceutical professionals and
nanobiotechnologists.
