Ransom "Doc" Wilcox's adventures began in Taber, Alberta, Canada in
1907, but he was soon whisked to the back country of Northern
California where his family farmed, tended livestock, and sometimes
got by via hunting and fishing. Once, when the hunter became the
prey-of a charging wild boar-Wilcox stuck a pole he was carrying
into the ground and climbed up Wilcox's love of animals, music, and
the great outdoors is evident in his nature-themed stories (for
young and old ages 8 and up). They convey courage, devotion, and
perseverance with warmth and sincerity. 42-page, perfect-bound,

Ninety five years ago, born into a destiny of horses, a man used
them to work the land. Farming in the Midwest was bleak and harsh
at best. If you stand in one place for too long you will be hit by
lightning. Having worked the land for so long, it actually took
being hit by lightning to appreciate doing something different. He
rode the Continental Divide with the governor of Minnesota on
horseback. The divide offered breath taking views of Colorado's
Mt.Elbert to a lonely hill of destiny in New Mexico. His daughter,
Katie carried on the tradition of love and obsession for horses.
She experienced firsthand the love and loss of these great
creatures. She became a licensed therapist in California, and found
a way to incorporate horses into her practice. Along the way the
human and horse friends transformed her. Part Memoir, part
educational, nearly 100 years of true horse stories.
Joints, like all tissues in the body, rely on nutrients for
maintenance and repair. The horse's body prioritizes its use of
nutrients, first supporting vital organs-heart, lungs, liver,
kidneys and brain-then giving what nutrients are left over to the
rest of the anatomy. It is vitally important that the horse's diet
include sufficient nutrients to make it all the way to the organs
at the end of the body's hierarchy, the joints. Supplementing for
joint health without first establishing a nutritional foundation is
a waste of effort and money. In Joint Health-A Nutritional
Perspective, Dr. Juliet M. Getty explains joint structure and the
dietary requirements to maintain or repair joints, then discusses
various ingredients found in common joint supplements and their
appropriate applications. The book is expanded from her teleseminar
on the subject with additional valuable information about the
nutritional basis for joint health.
Riding Horseback in Purple covers important phases of learning,
including: - Are you ready for a horse? - How do you find the right
horse? - How do you prepare for your horse's arrival? - How do you
learn together and build a relationship? It is increasingly common
for mature women to get their first horse-or first horse in
decades-around retirement age. Some of these woman-horse matches
are successful, but too frequently they don't work out. Such
failures can leave women feeling unsuccessful and leave horses in
precarious situations. The author has set out to help women connect
with great horses so that they can grow, learn, and enjoy active
lives as partners with their horses. Beneath the obvious topic of
getting a horse, this book deals with healthy, positive aging;
reflections on the nature of leadership; reflections on male and
female relationships with horses; and links between work with
horses and connection with nature. The horse breed with the most
focus in this book is the Norwegian Fjord, which is strongly tied
to Norwegian culture and is the breed in the 2013 Disney Film
Frozen. The book has reviews from experts with equitation, Fjord
horses and sustainability. One of the testimonials is from Dr.
Allan Hamilton: Professor of Neurosurgery and author of Zen Horse,
Zen Mind: "Alice MacGillivray has done us all a great favor by
writing: "Riding Horseback in Purple: "She has given us both the
exhortation to follow our passion for horses but tempered it with
some of the soundest and most sage advice about how to do it. This
book should become the bible for those wonderfully enthusiastic
middle-aged souls who are pondering whether to return to their
life-long passion for horses and finally making the jump into
owning a horse of their own "

Darken is a quirky little horse who is exceptionally timid,
flighty, quick as a cat, and apparently smarter than anyone ever
imagined. With forty years of horse training experience under her
belt, his owner, Jan Sharp, fully expects Darken to be her crowning
achievement - as both a trick horse and as a show horse. Instead,
Darken sees horse-eating monsters behind every bush, flunks out of
trick horse school, suffers medical emergencies, and does his best
to frustrate her at every turn. All that changes the day Darken
walks out of his stall and proves just how smart he really is. As
he works to overcome his many challenges, Jan is rewarded by
watching him blossom. Along the way, she learns that it's the
little steps and victories in life that are to be savored and
enjoyed, instead of hurried past in an attempt to reach greater
goals. Ride along on the five-year journey Darken takes to find his
own path in life, and the amazing way he uses his talents to help
others. Darken's story is sure to strike a familiar cord with those
who sometimes struggle to fit in and make a difference. Climb
aboard, hold on tight, and enjoy the ride.
Giving Your Horse a Barefoot Attitude is a compilation of years of
experiences meant to give the horse owner a confident attitude
about barefooting their horse which in turn will give the horse
confidence in being barefoot. As the horse picks up on the owner's
emotions, the owner must lead the way. This book intends to simply
and effectively explain what is going on with horses' hooves.
Everything you need to know about Mini Horses as pets. This book is
a must have guide for anybody passionate about Miniature Horse,
Mini Horse or Mini Ponies. Care, health, keeping, raising,
training, play, food, costs and where to buy all included. The book
is written in an easy to read and understandable style. In a
straight forward, no nonsense fashion, Elliott Lang covers all
aspects of keeping Mini Horses. The book is full of sound advice
and answers to your questions.
In the early morning, the stillness is broken by small clouds of
dust billowing about a horse's hooves. A single stockman moves into
the warm, soft rays of the Australian winter sun. Another workday
has begun.
Stockmen, dust, and horses are synonymous with life in the
Australian outback. There are those who say that the Australian
outback was built on the sheep's back?and there are plenty more
horsemen and horsewomen who would argue that point.
There are few places with a stronger or prouder heritage of
horsemanship than the Australian outback. Even in an era when some
have come to depend on motorbikes or helicopters, the main cog of
mustering is still driven by the famous Australian horses and their
riders. For many Australians, horses are at the core of their
lives, not just as valued, reliable workers, but also as the stars
of a huge culture of equine competition and leisure.
Quentin Szery's life has always been embedded in the equine
world. Through his lifelong focus and observation of horse
behaviour, he has developed great insight into their psychology. By
harnessing the natural instincts of a horse, trainers can create a
lifelong, symbiotic working relationship. Whether a horse is
destined for the Olympic ring or the dusty outback, early and
effective training is the key to success.
Written to inspire a wide cross-section of the equine-oriented
world, Starting Horses with Quentin Szery offers readers a glimpse
of an iconic horseman's intimate knowledge and the spiritual
relationship shared by horses and humans.
A pair of bay ponies bonded beyond this lifetime. A circus horse
tortured but resilient. A gelding damaged by ignorance but still
willing to love. A Percheron cross with a healing touch. These
horses and others have taught the author about how to be a human
being, and their stories, simply told, will enrich the life of any
reader.
When I was operating a sawmill and timber processing business in
Queensland Australia, one of our Japanese resellers approached us
about information about horse fencing. He had a client who was
building a racehorse complex and wanted a large amount of fencing.
As the complex owner had paid in the millions of dollars for some
of the horses we realised that good enough was not good enough in
our recommendations. A horse injury caused by one of our
recommendations could have resulted in litigation. We found that
there was not one ideal fence and that whatever the design chosen
would involve compromises. This book will guide you through the
decision making process that will enable you to build the most
appropriate fence for your loved, though possibly less expensive
horse.
Equine obesity is a difficult yet highly common issue all over the
world, and in the Easy Keeper Teleseminar transcribed here, we look
at the causes, prevention and solutions. Research on equine obesity
started with studies on human obesity, looking at elements like
hormonal responses, etc. Then the research moved to horses and
found that the drivers of weight issues for people are, for the
most part, the same as for horses. Easy Keeper offers four keys to
successful equine weight management that not only work, but bring
benefits far beyond reducing a horse's girth.
This comprehensive study book has been put together for you to gain
knowledge of the equine industry and to help give you a leg up onto
your equine career ladder. The study provides essential information
which is useful to have when working with horses and it will also
look good from a potential employer's point of view if you already
have a good understanding of the basics so they don't have to start
training you from scratch. There is also a 'Going Further' section
to this book where you can study in more depth, giving you a higher
level of knowledge and understanding which can only help to improve
your chances of impressing that future employer This study book is
aimed towards people who already own a horse and want to know more
or people intending to own a horse in the future but would like a
better understanding of the animal beforehand. Students who are due
to start or are already studying an equine course will also benefit
from this wealth of information. This collection of material can be
used to prepare you for college to give you a head start or used as
a source of information to refer back to alongside the course. With
the freedom to study when it suits you and without the need to
perform as you will not be assessed, there is no pressure on you so
you can relax and enjoy your learning experience. Complete the
questions at the back either as you get to them or as you complete
each topic to see how much you have remembered. There are questions
for the 'Going Further' sections too if you fancy more of a
challenge
