My Horse Has Five Hearts is a book that teaches young children a
wonderful lesson on the function of the horses hoof - and how it
acts like a heart. The book shares a perspective from the child and
the horse that your children and grandchildren, in fact, all
children especially those 8-12 will love reading. This delightful
scientific lesson will teach kids about the parts of the hoof,
inside and out, the circulatory system, the various shapes a
horse's hoof can take on, and how important the horse vet and shoer
can be. Beautifully illustrated by Rusty Fletcher, and enjoyably
written by a mother and daughter who know how important and pivotal
the horse has become in our society. The book takes on a topic that
is not taught to many children and yet is so desperately needed
thanks to the young co-author Laken, age 10. This colorful and
insightful explanation of how the circulatory system in the horse
is only one-way when it gets to the legs, and counts on the pumping
action of the horse hoof to help it back up the leg - is a
treasured learning that goes a long way to helping the horse be a
healthy companion.
This true story, filled with discovery, challenges our
understanding of how deeply animals are connected to us and how
they are involved in our lives in ways we could never imagine.
Telepathic animal communication provides the gift of voice for
Diana's horse Emma and brings to light Emma's insights into the
human realm and beyond.
Dr. Cheryl Schwartz, DVM, author of Four Paws, Five Directions,
described Emma as "one of the most unusual horses I ever met."
At the age of four Diana, who had been apartment bound, was
given the chance to ride a horse. For the first time in her life
she felt safe, free and filled with joy. From that day on she
possessed a mystical attraction to horses. Not until she was an
adult could she afford her first horse, however, she had picked
horses based on capabilities and not feelings. Then she met a
beautiful thoroughbred, Emma. An instant emotional bond drew her to
what many thought was a mentally unstable horse. Despite warnings,
Diana bought Emma and proceeded to school this capable athlete to
be her dream show horse. But soon Emma's inexplicable behaviors
interfered with her training. In search of a solution Diana was led
to Carol, someone who could communicate with animals
telepathically. Once her skepticism was overcome Diana regularly
spoke to Emma using Carol as the translator. Diana soon learned
that Emma was not like any other horse she or Carol had ever known.
Emma's wisdom, intelligence and abilities beyond the five senses
invited Diana into worlds she didn't know existed.
The author tells of her experiences over a lifetime with horses.
With horses as her teachers, she learns to understand and respect
them for the intelligent, sentient creatures they are. She shares
her reflections and understanding with readers in the hope that
they too will enjoy the truly wonderful bond that is possible
between horses and humans.
EQxpressionists is a book about playing with horses as artistic
expression. Featuring interviews with eight progressive trainers
from around the world, EQxpressionists questions what makes horses
special to people, how we can create good relationships with our
horses, and how we can develop a horsemanship practice that is fuel
for life. Those interviewed share their experiences training horses
for showing, trail riding, and demonstrations. From Classical
Dressage to trick-training, the individuals featured are sure to
inspire. EQxpressionists encourages readers to imagine their dream
horses and digs at the question, "How should we work with our
equines so that they can truly be the horses of our dreams?"
A delightful and beautifully illustrated book about a pony called
Bo and a young boy, named Eli. Eli likes to ask Bo a lot of
questions about being a pony, and their friendship grows with each
answer.
This stirring book fully justifies America's magnificent wild
horses and burros while countering the biased machinations against
them. Written by an ecologist who grew up observing these animals
in the West, it presents new evidence concerning their history and
evolution in North America then describes their many positive
contributions to soils, plants, animals and people. Though true
restorers of this continent's ecosystem, they have been unfairly
targeted for elimination. Over the centuries, they have borne our
burdens and helped us along life's way--which makes it doubly
unfair that they should be blamed for what we humans have done. As
always, they stand ready to help us do the hard work now so
desperately needed to restore our shared home. Many of the author's
personal experiences with these animals, their diverse herd areas,
and the multicolored people involved with them are herein vividly
shared. Urgently required now at the 40th anniversary of the Wild
Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act is a strategy to reverse the
negative schemes that are causing their demise in the wild. As
described, Reserve Design provides a way for establishing
self-stabilizing populations through intelligent and caring
programs executed with enthusiasm. Their lesson for humanity
concerns how to share freedom and the land with such paragons of
nature. Soaring beyond mundane pettiness and with an inspired
vision for the future of all life, the elevated perspective and
compassionate spirit of this book will prove key to accomplishing
its critical goal. In the wild the vigor of any kind is preserved.
And the entire horse family--as the Earth itself--needs America's
wild horses and burros to continue at vital levels into the future
here in their evolutionary cradle and worldwide.
This is the classic book first published in 1968 by Horse
Auctioneer and Cowboy, Lawrence Green and Dean W. Boggs. Full of
critical information on how to understand what's important when
buying a horse or getting a horse at auction. Out of print until
now, this gem is written in laymen's terms and gives over an
easy-to-follow method for ascertaining the age of a horse. As an
extra dividend, Yuma Bill's humor and philosophy add a special
savor to the solid facts contained in this book. All rights

New Book "Reclaiming the Farrier's Soul" Takes In-Depth Look at
Ancient Art of Farriery Highlighting Changes Necessary to Improve
Performance and Horse Welfare. Life-long rider and horse owner
Alvin Blench seeks to bring craft of farriery in line with current
horseshoeing needs essential for modern-day breeds of horses.
"Reclaiming the Farrier's Soul" is aimed at horse lovers everywhere
as well as those interested in horse welfare. It provides the
equestrian community with key lessons to build their knowledge
about shoeing, enabling them to communicate better and more
productively with their farrier. The book provides valuable lessons
with over 85 color photographs, and key principles which provide
guidelines to raising horseshoeing standards. Farriery is one of
the world's oldest crafts. It has acquired a special mystique down
through the centuries, but this ancient history also increases
resistance to change. Parts of the farriery process now need a
modern perspective. This has become more evident especially since
WWII, now that working horses for farm and transport have been
replaced by pleasure/ riding/sport horses, which have totally
different hooves and shoeing requirements. As a result, some
farriery techniques are outdated, but there are also a number of
key areas where shoeing improvements need to be made, not just for
aesthetic reasons, but to improve a horse's performance capability
and comfort. One example is hot shoeing which can have a profoundly
negative effect on the horse's welfare, if shoes that are too hot
are held on for too long on sensitive hooves. There are other
potential problem areas, such as incorrect hoof angles, poor
trimming and nailing which can lead to lameness and discomfort.
While these issues are a fundamental part of the farrier's job,
they also need to be better understood by horse owners so they can
improve their dialogue with them, to get a better shoeing standard.
This serves a dual purpose, of getting improved welfare and also
superior performance from their horses. The book is a must for
horse lovers
Easy-to-use horse whispering techniques and principles that can
help you develop better bonds with horses. Chapters include
understanding and speaking the horse's language, human body
postures, getting horses to follow you and leadership, body space
and boundaries.

There are several questions requiring attention for rearing horses.
By providing appropriate care during early ages, important injuries
such as lameness or musculoskeletal damage can be avoided, which
becomes of capital importance especially among competition horses.
In recent years, there has been an increasing body of evidence that
the early rearing environment, in particular access to exercise,
can have a positive effect on stimulating the musculoskeletal
system and priming the tissue for the future demands it will face
in the competition arena. Due to different reasons, such as their
participation in competitions or exhibition, sales or pleasure,
horses are transported from one location to another. Transportation
could be a physical and psychological stressor for horses,
contributing to the development of some diseases, thus the effects
of transportation on performance and welfare should be
appropriately taken into account.
