Made from soft, natural latex gum rubber with a precision-ground finish, Speedball Soft Rubber Brayers are ideal for use with linoleum, vinyl, or wood blocks.  The flexibility of the 40/42 durometer rubber ensures for even ink distribution especially over uneven surfaces. The roller can be popped out of the plastic handle to allow for easier cleaning. Designed for use with water based and oil based inks. Care should be taken with the rubber rollers when cleaning and storing.  Lightly dust with talc to avoid the surface becoming sticky and ensure the surface of the roller is not pressing against anything when put away. They are an opaque ink with excellent coverage and by adding Speedball’s Fabric Block Printing Transparent Extender you can create transparent colours while maintain the inks viscosity.These inks are designed to print onto smooth fabrics that do not possess a heavy texture or stretch such as cotton, linen, broadcloth or denim. Nylon and canvas are not recommended. Speedball’s Speedy-Carve Blocks are designed for relief printmaking. They have a soft, putty-like surface which is easier to cut than traditional linoleum, and are designed for use with lino-cutting tools. As they are flexible, Speedy-Carve Blocks can be used to print onto flat or curved surfaces.

As in lino-cutting, the desired design is cut in reverse into the surface of the block with gouges or knives. Water-soluble or oil-based ink is then transferred to the raised, uncut areas of the block using a roller/brayer. The design can be printed onto paper or fabric, in a press or by hand.
