Tails are irresistible to toddlers, and in this favorite sturdy
touch-and-feel board book, preschool-age pokers and prodders can
finally tug to their heart's content. Engaging, cartoonish animals
from tigers to pangolins romp across the pages as the rhyming text
bounces along: "Tails fluffy, / Tails stringy, / Scaled tails
strong and-clingy!" Pull tabs, lift-able flaps, tufts of "fur," and
even a scratch-and-sniff skunk tail provide plenty of tactile
surprises. Along the way, youngsters will learn about counting,
opposites, and how animals use their tails. A tried and true
tail-wagger!
"This beguiling picture book, with a palette of eye-filling colors, appears to arise from the love binding a father and his little `big' girl who turn bedtime into playtime with a rhyming game."--Publishers Weekly. "A loving book, perfect for sharing with the youngest lapsitters."--Booklist.
Slip, slide, leap, and dive with a family of seven lively ducklings
as they get ready to fly for the very first time. Keith Baker's
playful, rhyming text and bold collage illustrations capture the
excitement of a day's adventures--and gently introduce
counting.

"One fine morning, a rooster decided he wanted to travel." In
strikingly designed, colorful collage illustrations and a beguiling
simple text, Eric Carle takes his young readers on a trip with the
rooster and his companions. As he travels, the rooster is joined by
two cats, three frogs, four turtles and five fish, offering the
child a graphic introduction to the meaning of numbers, number sets
and addition within the context of an entertaining story. When
night falls, the rooster's friends find he has made no provisions
for their food or shelter and, disappointed, they abandon the
expedition -- once again in sets of five, four, three and two, but
this time in a declining series. Finally the rooster, too, decides
that he has seen enough of the world and that he is, in fact, a
little bit homesick.
Eric Carle believes in letting children make learning
discoveries at their own pace. This book can be read and enjoyed
for its story and its beautiful illustrations alone; however, the
child who is ready to begin to think mathematically will find
additional pleasures in the opportunities presented in the text,
the pictures and the diagrams for learning basic arithmetic
concepts.
Children will enjoy exploring the known universe and imagining unknown worlds as they crack alien message codes, finalize spaceship designs and hunt for hidden planets in this fact-filled book. The fun puzzle activities are designed to nurture key skills in maths, language and reasoning while providing plenty of science fact- and fiction-based fun.
Kirsteen Robson joined Usborne in 1997 with a background in music, education, and Christian publishing. She has written and edited over 300 Usborne titles, from dictionaries and encyclopedias to activity books with flaps, stickers and sounds. She loves the challenge of writing about anything from aardvarks to zombies.
Combining scooped-out die-cuts with raised, shaped elements, two
new TouchThinkLearn books offer youngest learners an irresistible
opportunity to explore their universe in a hands-on, multisensory
way. See the image, trace its shape, say its name: these modes of
perception combine in a dynamic way to stimulate understanding of
essential concepts. Contemplate a circle by touching the raised
surface of an owl hooting at night on one side, and the form of a
moon rising on the other. Featuring a format unlike any other,
these groundbreaking books translate abstract thought into tangible
knowledge.
