"Understanding Forensic Digital Imaging" offers the principles of
forensic digital imaging and photography in a manner that is
straightforward and easy to digest for the professional and
student. It provides information on how to photograph any setting
that may have forensic value, details how to follow practices that
are acceptable in court, and recommends what variety of hardware
and software are most valuable to a practitioner.
In addition to chapters on basic topics such as light and lenses,
resolution, and file formats, the book contains
forensic-science-specific information on SWGIT and the use of
photography in investigations and in court. Of particular note is
Chapter 17, "Establishing Quality Requirements," which offers
information on how to create a good digital image, and is more
comprehensive than any other source currently available.
A companion website offers exercises for the student and practicing
professional.
* Covers topics that are of vital importance to the practicing
professional
* Serves as an up-to-date reference in the rapidly evolving world
of digital imaging
* Uses clear and concise language so that any reader can understand
the technology and science behind digital imaging
Pinhole-type cameras are still the dominating brands and are also
used in computer vision for understanding 3D scenes based on
captured images or videos. However, different applications have
pushed for designing alternative architectures of cameras. For
example, in photogrammetry, cameras are installed in planes or
satellites, and a continuing stream of image data can also be
created by capturing images just line by line, one line at a time.
As a second example, robots are required to understand scenery in
full 360 degrees to be able to react to obstacles or events; a
camera looking upward into a parabolic or hyperbolic mirror allows
this type of omnidirectional viewing. The development of alternative
camera architectures results in a need to understand related
projective geometries for the purpose of camera calibration,
binocular stereo, static or dynamic scene understanding.
With a focus on the settler societies of the United States and
Australia, Photography and Landscape is a new critical account of
landscape photography created through a unique collaboration
between a photography writer and a landscape photographer.
Beginning with the frontier days of the American West, the
subsequent century-long popularity of landscape photography is
exemplified by images from Carleton Watkins to Ansel Adams, the New
Topographics to Richard Misrach, all of whose works are considered
here. Along with discussions of other contemporary photographers,
this extensively illustrated volume demonstrates the influence of
settler societies on landscape photography, in which skilled
photographers captured the fascination with and the appeal of the
land and its expanse. The latest installment in Intellect's
Critical Photography series, Photography and Landscape is a
visually striking introduction to one of the most important modes
of photography.

In conventional color photography, spectral sensitizers
cooperate with silver halide as acceptors of light during the
exposure process, color developers reduce silver halide grains
during the developing process, and finally the resulting oxidized
developers react with couplers to form imaging dyes. Instant color
photography gives us an alternative way of realizing excellent
color reproduction, in which dyes changing their diffusibility play
an important role. The aim of this book is to provide researchers
and graduate students with a perspective on how such organic
compounds work in color photography and how seemingly miraculous
techniques based on organic chemistry lead to color images of high
quality. The readers will acquire the philosophy and learn from
hints on how to develop functionalized organic compounds.
The Canon PowerShot G16 compact digital camera is the successor to
the successful G15 and the first in the G-series to come equipped
with built-in Wi-Fi. This facility makes it ideal for sharing
images and video on social networking websites, or via email
through the Canon Image Gateway. Images can also be uploaded using
the maker's compatible iOS(R) or Android(t) device with the
download of a free Canon CameraWindow app. The G16's 28 - 140mm
wide-angle lens has an aperture range of f/1.8 - f/2.8, making it
ideal for shooting in low-light conditions or for capturing a
dramatic shallow depth-of-field with soft backgrounds. The camera
features Canon's HS System, which combines a DIGIC 6 image
processor and a 12.1-megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS image sensor.
Autofocus (AF) times and reduced shooting lag are improved over
previous G-series models and continuous shooting speeds of up to
9.3 frames-per-second are possible. New shooting modes include Star
mode for capturing the night sky: Star Nightscape will capture
stars in a landscape image, while Star Trails will capture trails
of stars in a still image; Star Time Lapse Movie will shoot
continuous still images of stars and combine them into a video that
replicates the motion of the stars in the sky.
This practical book explains what is meant by macro photography and
how to get even closer to your subject: not just a close-up of a
butterfly, but details of the eye and wing scales. Techniques
suited to any budget look at ways to photograph virtually any
creature, whether terrestrial, marine or from freshwater. All the
key elements to achieve extreme close-ups are built in a clear way,
for both outdoor and studio use, and special attention is given to
focus stacking, with both software and further enhancements
covered.

photographic adventures in the wild. Whether planning a major
safari to the savannahs of Africa or a simple trip to a local park,
