One of the historical functions of church life and the role of pastoral ministry is to provide healing for the wounded soul. Although most churches and pastors agree with the need to assist the discouraged and dysfunctional in the congregation, few churches and pastors are adequately equipped for the task. How to Start a Counseling Ministry: The Healing Community for the Local Church waswritten for the equipped counselor or pastor. That is, one who has been trained in the healing ministry of counseling, and wants to provide quality, professional care to the members of the congregation and the community at large. Written from a local church perspective but also with professional counselors in mind, Dr. DeKoven present the nuts and bolts of establishing a Healing Community for the local church, a counseling center designed for both in reach (care for the congregation) and outreach (as an impactful evangelistic tool to the community). In this highly practical work, Dr. DeKoven provides to the reader a systematic approach to developing, organizing, marketing and managing a successful Christian Counseling Ministry. Based upon the authors over 35 years of clinical and pastoral experience, this book includes: Thinking it through: Are you sure you want to do this? Strategic Planning Clinical and Administrative procedures to keep you out of trouble, plus Dozens of tips for the development of dynamic counseling services to impact your unique community

THE ULTIMATE STORY straight from God's Word to help children and families increase their awareness about sexual abuse and the dangers of silence. This book is a counseling tool for adults to read with children to help the child understand the actions of a parent or loved one who has been affected by drug addiction. There is a page at the end of the book that gives some suggested guidelines for using this tool. An example is: 1.Read the book with the child and stop whenever you see an expression on the child's face that tells you that they recognize themselves in the situation. It could be just a change in posture, facial expression, or you could even sense that the child is closing up. Don't let that door close, if necessary, stop and start again later.
What do you say to someone who is dying? How do you provide spiritual care for the terminally ill and help them make a peaceful transition? These and other questions are answered in, "It is well with my soul." This book is an excellent resource for pastors, chaplains, physicians, hospice clinicians, nurses, social workers, home health aides, grief counselors, geriatric workers, volunteers, caregivers and everyone who cares for the dying. "It is well with my Soul, is a thoughtful, comprehensive book on spiritual care for the dying. Dr. White lifts his knowledge and prose with his innate and acquired humility, kindness and compassion. I have worked with him for years and appreciate his open heart and generous nature. How fortunate that he took time to give us his wisdom as he has done so many times for my patients at the bedside." Kathleen Murphy BS MD FAAHPM Palliative Care Consult Service Assistant Professor, Oakland University William Beaumont Medical School William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan "At times it seems easier to deal with the physical aspects of death and dying rather than confronting the spiritual health of a hospice patient. Dr. White has given me a new tool box to provide spiritual comfort to someone facing death and to their family and caregivers. Every hospice clinician should carry a copy of, "It is well with my soul" in their medical bag and every caregiver should have a copy on their nightstand to read and reflect on each day." Fran Adamski, RN Hospice Clinical Manager "It is well with my soul, speaks to both chaplains and social worker issues. The information addressed by Dr. White is helpful and informative. I feel I will be able to put to use his findings in my practice as a hospice social worker." Sandra Goldberg, LMSW Hospice Social Worker "There is not enough literature on Hospice Spiritual Assessment and Spiritual Care for the dying. It is well with my soul, is a pioneering work that provides a comprehensive Hospice Spiritual Assessment and essential information on Spiritual Care for the terminally ill. I highly recommend that every hospice chaplain, grief counselor, volunteer and pastor use this important resource as they serve the terminally ill." Rev. Dana Darby, M.Div. Hospice Manager of Chaplains, Bereavement and Volunteer Coordinator "It is well with my soul, is a manual, an awesome tool and contribution to those who either work or care for the terminally ill. It enables the hospice chaplain, clergy, social worker and others to gain insight, information and knowledge that is important to the dying person and enhances their relationship, their belief system and bring them peace." Rev. Ingrid Ingram, D.Min. Hospice Chaplain "The spiritual meditations in, It is well with my soul, were a source of comfort and brought joy inside my tears. This book will be a great success. You wait and see." L.M. Hospice patient

Going through difficult times? This is a book that will meet people at their needs and give them the necessary steps to overcome emotional pain. A book that will give you a better understanding of who you are and why you react the way you do.
There are many books and published articles on the subject of problem people in churches. They define and diagnose the issue, but information on how to deal with it seems miniscule. In this book you will find a remedial approach that offers not only practical ways to deal with betrayal from church people but emotional healing from its sting as well. "Beguiled by Brothers may simply be the seminal work on the subject of betrayal ever written for the church. Its waters will refresh and heal the betrayed. Drink deep of them and find biblical understanding, biblical answers, practical application, and the comfort of God's sovereignty. -Bob Jones III, Chancellor, Bob Jones University
In this book, eight brief scenarios about nine imaginary people will be presented. Even though the individuals will not have been modeled after anyone in particular, their intent will be to mirror what many people in this world consider to be the very important issues of this life. The point that will be made with each scenario, however, is that every person NO MATTER WHAT will someday die. Therefore, if there is such a thing as an afterlife and if that afterlife lasts forever, then rational intelligent human beings to be rational and intelligent should be at least a little bit concerned about that life after death. While the topics of this book are very serious, playful names have been used to describe the type of each person being discussed. For example, scenario one is about Abercrombie Gotitall. With a name like that, it should be obvious that he is very successful. Scenario two is about Barking Godislove. His main claim is that a loving God would never impose eternal condemnation on anyone. Scenario three is about Causing Imsogood. She believes that it is very important to be a good person and to be involved in positive civic causes. Scenario four is about Doing Moregoodthanbad. Neither saint nor devil is what seems to be most important to him. Scenario five is about Eternity Doesnotexist. Eternity tends to rely on the so-called smart people in this world to let her know the truth about the afterlife. Scenario six is about Foolish Religionisforothers. When he considers the costs of a favorable afterlife, he cannot bring himself to make WHAT HE THINKS are the necessary lifestyle changes to have it. Scenario seven is about Goober Faithshallow. She had repeated a template type of prayer for salvation as a young girl. Then, throughout her whole life, she had counted on that one prayer to get her into heaven once on the other side of the grave. Finally, scenario eight is about Hadnut and Ioline Truefaith. Of the nine people discussed, those are the two that got everything right. In the first two chapters, the first seven scenarios will be presented. The people will be introduced in chapter one and their eternal destiny will be discussed in chapter two. That chapter will also explain why each of them had ended up as they had. In chapter three, a discussion will be presented about what it will be like to die lost. In chapter four, the importance of seeking the Lord with all of one's heart will be emphasized. That chapter will conclude with an introduction and discussion of Hadnut and Ioline Truefaith and their four children. The first part of chapter five will emphasize that Christian people are forgiven but not perfect. That part of the chapter will address some of the difficulties that some of them have faced and some of their clear shortcomings. The second part of the chapter will talk about what it means to DIE SAVED. The Bible does not talk much about that topic. But from what is available, a person can at least know if paradise is located UP or DOWN. From the first page to the last page of this book, the entire intent has been to exalt Jesus. He is the Lord. He is the one that died on the cross so that people CAN come to the Him by faith. Therefore, the whole desire and purpose is to encourage each person to seek Him with all of his or her heart. It is to encourage each person to commit to Him and to trust in Him. It is to encourage each person to enter into a personal relationship with the Creator of everything. Jesus has made all things available and all things possible to every person that will come to Him by faith.
The greatest gifts we have to offer come from within. Spiritual healing, or the ability to nurture and repair the emotional damage incurred by the heart and soul of others, is a gift that may not be naturally present in everyone. Like many gifts, however, it is one that can be learned. Untrained through any type of certification or degreed program, author W. Preston Green has spent many years working with young men making the difficult transition to adulthood. His education was a seat-of-the-pants learning experience, one built by a desire to help others and, somehow, an innate ability to say the right thing at the right time and to do just what was needed to provide solace. And through the years, all of his experiences resulted in a profound, actionable set of tools anyone can put to good use. Emphasizing the importance of building a relationship of trust, accepting the person as an individual and for who they really are, understanding differing perspectives on change and overcoming its resistance, and providing peace and forgiveness for injuries inflicted, Green uses stories to illustrate key concepts as he also outlines ways to guide those healing through change and how to seek and receive the help of the Lord in their healing efforts. Perfect for therapists, counselors, parents-anyone actively involved in lifting others to a higher plane, this uplifting handbook demonstrates how everyone has within them the potential to be a jewel of great worth.

My husband and I have come a long way since we got married. We had no idea what we were in for. I'm sure our marriage would have been voted one of the most unlikely to succeed. Yet through the years, we have seen the strongest marriages crumble, and we are still chugging along. Why? This book will reveal to you how the Lord intends not only our marriage relationships to work, but family and church as well. We need to be growing in God's kingdom ways of not being accepted because we meet certain standards and fulfill various obligations. The only true, unconditional acceptance comes from the love given, not earned. And it is this love that begins the healing: transforming a person into the splendor God created them to be. Marriages and relationships don't end because of what someone has or hasn't done. They end when one person quits.
God uses people daily to communicate His fragrance and message to us. Too often we don't check to see what aroma or impression we are leaving for others to see, hear, or smell. After visiting someone's home or before checking out of a motel, or when moving, we double check to make sure we haven't left anything behind. Even criminals check to make sure they haven't left any clues at the crime scene to identify them. A story reminded me of this. A robber thought he had committed the perfect crime. He assumed he left no clues behind. But he didn't count on someone remembering how he smelled. The smell he left behind was what helped convict him. Yes, we leave something everywhere we go. Stuart Holden reminded a young man moving from a boarding house of this fact when the young man said, he was just double checking to make sure he wasn't leaving anything behind. "There's one thing you will leave behind, young man, your influence." |
