While the Catholic Church is languishing in much of the West, by contrast it flourishes across Africa. Despite this, most African Church leaders remain unknown in the West, even among better informed Catholics. Sally Ninham's timely book remedies this via her in-depth interviews with a cross section of Africa's senior Catholic churchmen. Their stories provide first-hand insights into the religious, political, social and economic situations in their countries. Some of these leaders have played key roles in the midst of political turmoil, civil wars, rampant corruption and extreme poverty. Dr Ninham, who travelled around Africa for the interviews, believes some "have perhaps already earned the right to stand alongside such Western heroes as Martin Luther King, Franklin Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. They are men who have committed their lives to justice, to freedom and to humanity without pausing for breath."

The role of religious education/faith development among Unitarian Universalists marks the uniqueness of this religious movement. Without dependence on dogma or creed, it is essential that a religious community be free to develop its own distinctive identity. The centrality of religious education was evident in the very beginnings of this liberal denomination. Rev. Richard Gilbert collects many of the most influential statements of religious education philosophy in the anthology In the Middle of a Journey. From William Ellery Channing's eloquent "Sunday School Address" to the writings of stalwarts Sophia Lyon Fahs and Angus H. MacLean, these carefully selected essays trace the evolution of faith development from a Christian catechism to a broadly based faith-based quest for values, meanings and convictions. In an age that tends to belittle the past, it is refreshing to realize that if we are to chart where we are going, it is wise to know where we have been. The Unitarian Universalist movement has been in some interesting places, and eagerly seeks an adventurous future.
What does it mean to be a productive leader? Nourishing your community through leadership produces fruit that can be felt by others, but being a true leader means nourishing your roots inward to hone your character into a truly productive leader. We are influenced on a daily basis by those around us, especially by those in positions of leadership. These interactions are inevitable and can provide the basis for who we are as leaders and how we affect the world around us. We therefore cannot avoid leadership, but we can work toward being productive leaders. This book will provide insight on how you can become the fruit-bearing, world- impacting leader that God would have you to be. While there are millions of graduates leaving colleges and universities every year, major statistics show that more than 53 percent of these graduates are either unemployed or underemployed. In addition, many young people today fail to live up to their potential or even attempt to achieve their dreams due to lack of confidence in their abilities that often results from not being given permission to be and develop who they truly are. In THE NEW GENERATION OF LEADERSHIP, the authors gives outright that permission, and shares practical steps, inspiring stories and anecdotes, helpful principles, and uncommon truths in the nurturing of those innate qualities that will help young people increase their value, excel and stand out from the crowd.

FINISHING WELL Finishing Well is the third and final book in our Well Trilogy, which focuses on establishing our legacy in later years. Finishing Well gives the reader an opportunity to assess ultimate contributions while navigating necessary transitions in life and leadership in order to establish a lasting legacy. This book is designed to integrate Biblical leadership principals, lessons, and examples with real life experiences to help the reader better understand the dynamics and challenges of growing older and navigating the end game in such a way that they do not hinder God's ultimate purposes for their lives. To put it simply, we want to help older (50- 60s) men and women who have started well, lived and lead well to finish well and leave a lasting legacy for God's glory, their fulfillment, and the next generation's benefit. Our focus in this book is finishing well. Our goals include: 1. Providing an overview of the leadership "landscape" of getting older so that you can anticipate challenges and opportunities in order to cooperate with God in his purposes. 2. Providing Biblical insight and opportunities to examine your spiritual formation and foundation as they relate to moral, relational, and faith barriers that if not dealt with can lead to burnout, blowout, or plateauing. 3. Ministering to your inner life as well as providing information about convergence and afterglow as you prepare to finish well and establish your lasting legacy. 4. Providing Biblical and real life insights and examples for navigating the challenges and embracing the opportunities of end game growth and ministry. It is our desire that Finishing Well will be a blessing to you. How our life and leadership ends, how we make critical transitions to empower the next generation of leaders, and the quality of relationships we have will determine how we finish and the quality of our legacy.

This is the second book in the "sheep attack series." After publishing the best selling "When Sheep Attack" the conversation around a handful of antagonists attacking pastors and dividing congregations has increased. This follow up book expands the original 25 case studies to over 200 including clergy of virtually every denomination, music ministers, other lay professionals and lay leaders. This book is needed because educating denominational lay leaders and healthy parish leaders on this behavior is the first line of defense. In this book, Doctor Maynard exposes the essential staff catalyst that fuels an attack on pastors. He also lists a six point plan that has proven successful in stopping sheep attacks. The book is written in a format that can be easily adapted to vestry and board study. Examples of steps parish boards need to take to assist with clergy health and wellness are included. There are also examples of non-triangulation covenants every vestry and board should adopt. Other topics included: Defining leadership styles, Sabbaticals a two-edged sword, The quicksand around parish day schools, Why it is inevitable someone will be ejected from the congregational system after a sheep attack and others.
The goal of this book is to lay biblical foundations concerning the discovery of your gifts, the development of them, and the practical implementation of those gifts. It is truth that is simple, attainable, and applicable. It is my goal to present truth in such a way that you are moved beyond intellectual assent to application, which transforms our character and manner of life.
Short Description (2,000 characters, including spaces) Dr. Jerry Cook spent fifty years as a pastor, teaching and writing about the presence of the Holy Spirit and of Christ in everyday life-including speaking in tongues. But in a conversation with a young pastor he realized the need to explain this topic in a practical, accessible way for those who may have only been exposed to it through "shocking" manifestations of fanaticism. In this conversation, the young pastor wondered what the "big deal" was, and when Cook got over his anger at this dismissive assessment, he tackled the concept head-on. Cook first asserts that "It is possible to be a sane, intellectually honest, biblical, and dynamic Christian who is filled with the Holy Spirit, speaks in tongues, and effectually ministers the full life of Christ." He does not shy away from his own doubts and struggles in the church and his personal faith, striving not to create an academic, theoretical work but to ask the right questions and provide genuine, compassionate advice. Here, find practical, Biblical answers to the questions of the young pastor and of other Christians who have struggled with this concept. Examine six significant events, from the in-breaking of God through the birth, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus, ending with the day of Pentecost. Follow the radical relocation of God from "out there" to "with us" to "in us," and visualize the remarkable implications of this radical move to the Christian's everyday life. Examine the church and the manifestation of Christ in its structure, power, and gathering. Do not wonder what Jesus would do, but ask the radical question of who he would be. What does a practical, post-modern Spirit-filled Christian look like? How is Jesus made visible in everyday living, and why is it important? Who is the church, really? In accessible terms, Cook explains that we are not just to do what Jesus would do, but rather to be who Jesus would be. In this way, we can bring visibility to His presence and access to His life and hope.

We Must Speak: Rethinking How We Communicate About Faith in the 21st Century "Pray that I may declare (the message) boldly, as I must speak." - Ephesians 6:20 In "We Must Speak," Larry Hollon addresses the communications crisis in mainline denominations and sounds a call to action for the church: Speak out in today's digital culture or risk irrelevance. Communications technology is connecting people in unprecedented ways, yet many mainline churches have been slow to adapt - and have continued to lose members and status. Other voices and messages are filling the void, offering superficial entertainment and consumerism as poor substitutes for the good news of the church. By embracing communications ministry, churches can transform their communities, change lives and be the presence of Christ for a hurting world. Hollon shares success stories, a theologically grounded vision, and specific steps for local congregations and denominations to tap the power of communications. "Larry Hollon sets out the case for why we need to maintain our voice ... in a world crowded with competing messages and often destructive values." - Mike McCurry, former White House press secretary
