Diana Inquest - The British Cover-Up (Paperback): John Morgan Diana Inquest - The British Cover-Up (Paperback)
John Morgan
R854 Discovery Miles 8 540 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The explosive evidence in Diana Inquest: The British Cover-Up blows the lid on the events that took place in the 24 hours following the death of Princess Diana in 1997. Diana's body was subjected to two embalmings and two post-mortems - in both France and the UK - within that first 24 hour period. In disturbing new findings - based on documentary evidence withheld from the 2007-8 inquest jury - the book reveals that Princess Diana's UK post-mortem samples were switched prior to toxicology testing. This shocking action means that the testing was carried out on blood and other samples that did not come from Diana's body. The book is based on evidence heard at the inquest, but also draws heavily on documents from within the British police investigation - Operation Paget. These official documents were not made available to the jury at the London inquest. In particular, this volume shows that the jury - who were expected to reach a verdict on the cause of the deaths - were prevented from seeing the UK post-mortem and toxicology reports for both Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed. Out of 23 documents connected to the post-mortem of Princess Diana, the inquest jury got to see just 2, and they heard evidence from only 3 of 14 key witnesses. Another surprising revelation in this fourth volume of the Diana Inquest series is that Diana's pre-post-mortem embalming, conducted in the Paris hospital within hours of her death, was ordered by the royals in Balmoral. The evidence in The British Cover-Up also reveals that on 31 August 1997 the then royal coroner, John Burton, took illegal jurisdiction over Princess Diana's body. These volumes on the Diana Inquest are essential reading for anyone who wishes to understand the events surrounding the deaths of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed resulting from the car crash in the Alma Tunnel on 31 August 1997. A leading UK QC, Michael Mansfield, who served throughout the six months of the London inquest, stated in 2010: "I have read all of the books that John Morgan has produced.... I have no doubt that the volumes written by him] will come to be regarded as the 'Magnum Opus' on the crash ... that resulted in the unlawful killing of Diana, Princess of Wales and Dodi Al Fayed and the cover-up that followed." Dodi's father, Mohamed Al Fayed has said: "I believe that John Morgan has done more to expose the facts of this case than the police in France and Britain."

The Life of Henry VII (Paperback): Bernard Andreas, Bernard Andr The Life of Henry VII (Paperback)
Bernard Andreas, Bernard Andr; Translated by Daniel Hobbins
R615 Discovery Miles 6 150 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Composed between 1500 and 1502, "The Life of Henry VII" is the first "official" Tudor account of the triumph of Henry VII over Richard III. Its author, the French humanist Bernard Andre, was a poet and historian at the court of Henry VII and tutor to the young Prince Arthur. Steeped in classical literature and familiar with all the tropes of the ancient biographical tradition, Andre filled his account with classical allusions, invented speeches, and historical set pieces. Although cast as a biography, the work dramatizes the dynastic shift that resulted from Henry Tudor's seizure of the English throne at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485 and the death of Richard III. Its author had little interest in historical "facts," and when he was uncertain about details, he simply left open space in the manuscript for later completion. He focused instead on the nobility of Henry VII's lineage, the moral character of key figures, and the hidden workings of history. Andre's account thus reflects the impact of new humanist models on English historiography. It is the first extended argument for Henry's legitimate claims to the English crown. "The Life of Henry VII" survives in a single manuscript, edited by James Gairdner in the nineteenth-century Rolls Series. It occupies an important place in the literary tradition of treatments of Richard III, begun by Andre, continued by Thomas More and Polydore Vergil, and reaching its classic expression in Shakespeare. First English translation. Introduction, bibliography, index.

Christopher Hibbert; Foreword by Hugh Thomas
R592 R546 Discovery Miles 5 460 Save R46 (8%) Ships in 18 - 22 working days

To his mother, Queen Victoria, he was "poor Bertie," to his wife he was "my dear little man," while the President of France called him "a great English king," and the German Kaiser condemned him as "an old peacock." King Edward VII was all these things and more, as Hibbert reveals in this captivating biography. Shedding new light on the scandals that peppered his life, Hibbert reveals Edward's dismal early years under Victoria's iron rule, his terror of boredom that led to a lively social life at home and abroad, and his eventual ascent to the throne at age 59. Edward is best remembered as the last Victorian king, the monarch who installed the office of Prime Minister.

R1,622 Discovery Miles 16 220 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

In 1999, a defiant 76-year old Mr Stanley Mhlanga confronted the Zimbabwean Forestry Commission. He claimed that Queen Lozikeyi had given his people the land from which they had been evicted. Who was this woman, an inspiration to an old man 80 years after her death? Queen Lozikeyi was the senior queen of Lobhengula, king of the Ndebele people in what is now Zimbabwe. Her early life has been wreathed in mystery, but now at last her story can be told. This book is one of the first studies of a woman who led her people while the British colonial power occupied her country. She was the intellect behind one of the most effective anti-colonial revolts. Queen Lozikeyi continues to be an inspiration to Zimbabweans today. Queen Lozikeyi, as an Ndebele royal woman, interited a strong constitutional position from Nguni royal foremothers in Zululand. This study shows how Lobhengula's senior queen and other Ndebele royal women uses their power.
