A hardened cynic and a hopeless romantic teach each other about love in this swoony and heartful romance that’s perfect for fans of Tweet Cute and The Upside of Falling. Harper works in her mom’s wedding shop, altering dresses for petulant and picky brides who are more focused on hemlines than love. After years of watching squabbles break out over wedding plans, Harper thinks romance is a marketing tool. Nothing more. Her best friend Theo is her opposite. One date and he’s already dreaming of happily-ever-afters. He also plays the accordion, makes chain mail for Ren Festers, hangs out in a windmill-shaped tree house, cries over rom-coms, and takes his word-of-the-day calendar very seriously. When Theo’s shocked to find himself nursing his umpteenth heartbreak, Harper offers to teach him how not to fall in love. Theo agrees to the lessons, as long as Harper proves she can date without falling in love. As the lessons progress and Theo takes them to heart, Harper has a harder time upholding her end of the bargain. She’s also checking out her window to see if Theo’s home from his latest date yet. She's even watching rom-coms. If she confesses her feelings, she’ll undermine everything she’s taught him. Or was he the one teaching her?

This CAPS study guide highlights how political and economic forces have influenced the course of history. It uses the Cold War and its aftermath as the thread that links up all six of the matric topics. Nevertheless, it is careful to show a range of perspectives, and to show how the same events can be seen through different lenses. For each of the six topics, this study guide offers: useful definitions, comprehensive notes with revealing quotations, illustrations of people, places and events, diagrams, tables and maps that make relationships and comparisons explicit, visual summaries for the easy recall of key points, source-based questions and answers, and essay questions, with notes on how to respond, as well as example essays. The book also includes useful exam guidance and a practice exam, with answers and example essays. However, it is important to note that the essays in this book are not ‘model essays’ to be learnt. They are included to demystify what is required to achieve a high mark. We hope that after reading them learners will understand the requirements of the essay genre, and be better equipped to express their own opinions within an essay format. All the pictures in the book are available as part of our PowerPoint presentations, which can be downloaded for free from our website (www.theanswer.co.za). Teachers who order books for their class can also request these PowerPoint presentations to be sent to them on a CD. Note to IEB learners: While all the practice questions in this book come from DBE (National) exams, the comprehensive notes will still benefit learners who are preparing for the IEB exam.

Category Description for Kumon Math Workbooks (1-6):
The series is meant to be self-directed. Students take charge of their own learning on every level. They complete pages, check their work, record their scores, and determine whether to move on or review. The pace almost guarantees success. Children should work a "few" pages a day; assignments should take about 20 minutes to complete. Pages are marked with the skill level required at top and the points each question is valued at (a very young child will need some help totaling points). Very short instruction (or an example) is given on a few pages. For example, there is a short explanation when children begin to subtract a 2-digit number from a 3-digit number where borrowing is needed. However, the child is given every opportunity to intuit this beforehand. By the time he reaches this page, he has already been subtracting double-digit numbers for many pages. Some of these would require borrowing, but, since they are able to subtract, say, 7 from 12, the Kumon method wants the child to see a pattern when increasing to 7 from 22, 7 from 32, etc. This does remind me of the approach used in Miquon as well. Besides these very infrequent helps there are just some small prompts for children to look for patterns in their answers, and words of encouragement. Pages are pleasing to the eye; they are colored, clean, and problems are well-spaced. The Kumon method has been used successfully with children around the world for over 50 years. It does seem like it would help a child to take charge of his own learning and help himself to understanding rather than being spoon-fed each bite. For Kumon math earlier than Grade 1, see the Kumon section in Early Learning.
