This illustrated adaptation of Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai's bestselling memoir, I Am Malala, introduces readers of 7+ to the remarkable story of a teenage girl who risked her life for the right to go to school. Raised in a changing Pakistan by an enlightened father from a poor background and a beautiful, illiterate mother, Malala was taught to stand up for her beliefs. When terrorists took control of her region and declared that girls were forbidden from going to school, Malala refused to sacrifice her education. And on 9 October 2012, she nearly paid the ultimate price for her courage when she was shot on her way home from school. The book follows Malala's incredible journey to recovery in the aftermath of the attack, from the life-saving surgery she receives in a Birmingham hospital to her reunion with her family and their eventual relocation to England. Today Malala is a global symbol of peaceful protest and the youngest ever person to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Her story of bravery and determination in the face of extremism is more timely now than ever.

This popular book covers the CAPS curriculum and offers: Comprehensive Notes per Term, Questions per Term and Detailed Answers plus an Exam Paper & Memo. This study guide introduces Business Studies as a relevant subject and provides clear, instructive explanations that are accessible to learners of all abilities. The simple, but comprehensive style of teaching motivates them to work at their own pace and excel in the subject.
This CAPS study guide highlights how political and economic forces have influenced the course of history. It uses the Cold War and its aftermath as the thread that links up all six of the matric topics. Nevertheless, it is careful to show a range of perspectives, and to show how the same events can be seen through different lenses. For each of the six topics, this study guide offers: useful definitions, comprehensive notes with revealing quotations, illustrations of people, places and events, diagrams, tables and maps that make relationships and comparisons explicit, visual summaries for the easy recall of key points, source-based questions and answers, and essay questions, with notes on how to respond, as well as example essays. The book also includes useful exam guidance and a practice exam, with answers and example essays. However, it is important to note that the essays in this book are not ‘model essays’ to be learnt. They are included to demystify what is required to achieve a high mark. We hope that after reading them learners will understand the requirements of the essay genre, and be better equipped to express their own opinions within an essay format. All the pictures in the book are available as part of our PowerPoint presentations, which can be downloaded for free from our website (www.theanswer.co.za). Teachers who order books for their class can also request these PowerPoint presentations to be sent to them on a CD. Note to IEB learners: While all the practice questions in this book come from DBE (National) exams, the comprehensive notes will still benefit learners who are preparing for the IEB exam.

A fresh and irreverent comedy starring a cast of neurodiverse characters - guaranteed to be one of the funniest novels you'll read. Leon John Crothers is 4779 days old (thirteen years and one month, if you're mathematically challenged). He has been 'moved on' from six different schools and most people think he has an attitude problem. Leon doesn't care for the label, in the same way that he doesn't care for Tim Burton, supermarket trolleys, train fanatics or Bounty bars. This time, however, things may turn out differently, as help comes from where he least expects it - Dr Snot, a physician at pains to help Leon navigate 'normal' and classmates, Tanya and Lawrence, who both face their own challenges. When school bully Glen Jenkins humiliates Leon in the school canteen and almost destroys Lawrence, Leon very reluctantly agrees to the formation of a club, The Asparagus Bunch. How Leon manages to navigate school woes and family drama - and astonishingly ends up with not one but two friends - is nothing short of a miracle, or maybe just simply down to being different. Shortlisted for the AN Post Irish Book Awards 2022 Shortlisted for the Juniper Book Awards 2023

Category Description for Kumon Math Workbooks (1-6):
The series is meant to be self-directed. Students take charge of their own learning on every level. They complete pages, check their work, record their scores, and determine whether to move on or review. The pace almost guarantees success. Children should work a "few" pages a day; assignments should take about 20 minutes to complete. Pages are marked with the skill level required at top and the points each question is valued at (a very young child will need some help totaling points). Very short instruction (or an example) is given on a few pages. For example, there is a short explanation when children begin to subtract a 2-digit number from a 3-digit number where borrowing is needed. However, the child is given every opportunity to intuit this beforehand. By the time he reaches this page, he has already been subtracting double-digit numbers for many pages. Some of these would require borrowing, but, since they are able to subtract, say, 7 from 12, the Kumon method wants the child to see a pattern when increasing to 7 from 22, 7 from 32, etc. This does remind me of the approach used in Miquon as well. Besides these very infrequent helps there are just some small prompts for children to look for patterns in their answers, and words of encouragement. Pages are pleasing to the eye; they are colored, clean, and problems are well-spaced. The Kumon method has been used successfully with children around the world for over 50 years. It does seem like it would help a child to take charge of his own learning and help himself to understanding rather than being spoon-fed each bite. For Kumon math earlier than Grade 1, see the Kumon section in Early Learning.
