Pelvic Congestion Syndrome - Chronic Pelvic Pain and Pelvic Venous Disorders: Pelvic congestion syndrome is one of the most misunderstood and least well-known medical conditions today. Because doctors most do not look for it, nor treat it: 1 in 3 (30%) of women with chronic pelvic pain get misdiagnosed and no treatment 1 in 6 (16.7%) of women and 1 in 30 (3%) of men with leg varicose veins get incomplete treatment and a higher risk of recurrence Women with intimate varicose veins of vagina, vulva, and labia do not get offered curative treatment However, research over the last 20 years has led us to know how we can investigate it and cure most people who have it. Moreover, research is showing how hemorrhoids (piles), varicocele in men and some erectile dysfunction are also due to pelvic venous disorders, and how new treatments are being developed for each. Pelvic Congestion Syndrome - Chronic Pelvic Pain and Pelvic Venous Disorders explains the concepts, the veins, how they go wrong to cause the problem - and how specialists at The Whiteley Clinic have spent 20 years developing the optimal investigations and treatments for this condition. This book is aimed at both the public and health care professionals who want to know more about this fascinating condition that affects millions of women and men in the world today.

Almost 1 in 2 people suffer from problems with leg veins - so if you don't have them then someone close to you will. Venous reflux (the major cause of leg vein problems) can cause tired or aching legs, swollen or itchy ankles. Many people suffering from venous reflux are unaware of the problem, until they develop unsightly varicose veins, thread veins, venous eczema or venous leg ulcers. Many doctors and nurses are not aware of the new information available and still treat their patients inappropriately with creams, bandages or support stockings. "Understanding Venous Reflux - the cause of varicose veins and leg ulcers" has been written by Mark Whiteley, an internationally renowned vein expert. With clear explanations, illustrated by over 50 easy-to-follow diagrams, this book makes the understanding of venous reflux - the underlying cause of varicose veins and most venous problems (such as thread veins, venous leg ulcers, venous eczema, discoloured ankles, etc.) - accessible to most readers, helping them decide on what treatment they should seek. For medical and nursing students, as well as all doctors, nurses and other health care workers who deal with legs and leg vein problems, this is an essential text.
The concept for this book evolved over many years of intense clinical practice during which a wide variety of vascular complications were encountered as a result of other surgical or interventional procedures. In this book, the authors describe cohesive efforts by experts in the field as they commit to advancing health care quality by all professionals. It should be noted at the outset that the book does not discuss various non-vascular or systemic complications of patients undergoing vascular interventions such as myocardial infarction, renal or respiratory failure. Instead, the content is divided into four separate sections. The material begins with an introduction to vascular anatomy and function. There follows a section addressing specific complications of the vascular system that can occur in any patient, sometimes even without intervention. The third section addresses complications specific to interventions and surgical procedures. The final section is dedicated to the delayed and long-term sequelae attributable to the most commonly encountered vascular complications. Vascular Complications of Surgery and Intervention: A Practical Guide is targeted towards dedicated health care professionals managing patients affected by inadvertent but potentially disastrous vascular complications and for those practitioners performing interventions either directly upon the vascular system or procedures that have potential for collateral impact.
Endovascular intervention - using medication and devices introduced through catheters or microcatheters placed into the blood vessels through a percutaneous approach - has emerged as a relatively new minimally invasive approach to treat cerebrovascular disease and possibly intracranial neoplasms. This textbook provides a comprehensive review of principles pertinent to endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular diseases and intracranial tumors, with a detailed description of techniques for these procedures and periprocedural management strategies. Particular emphasis is placed on expert interpretation of the quality of evidence provided and implications for practice related to endovascular procedures. This will be essential reading for clinicians working in interventional neurology and cardiology, endovascular neurosurgery, vascular surgery and neuroradiology.
Oxford Specialist Handbooks are portable, succinct, and above all reliable guides to difficult and challenging areas of surgical practice. The second edition of Vascular Surgery has been fully revised and updated to meet the needs of the vascular surgery trainee. Providing practical advice on all commonly encountered peripheral vascular problems. It focuses on surgical detail, but also carries background information on presentation and details on preoperative investigation and postoperative management. It gives relevant information for use when seeking patient consent. Each operation carries the latest OPCS code, increasingly important in recording surgical activity.
Vascular surgery has seen a remarkable evolution. A discipline focused on the natural history and treatment of vascular disease by open operation is now primarily a minimally invasive specialty. Mastery of the basic pathophysiology has been retained while the transformation by improved imaging and endovascular intervention has been integrated into practice. This fourth edition of Vascular Surgery: Principles and Practice has incorporated these advances building on the specialty's past assets. Knowledge of natural history and open surgery will always have an essential role in optimal care of patients with vascular diseases. The authors' exposition of the old and the new will make this edition a valuable resource for vascular surgeons and all others dedicated to the care of vascular patients.
The knowledge of the morphofunctional features from the coronary microcirculation is essential for understanding its role in cardiac physiological work and in the pathogenesis of coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD). The cardiovascular system comprises the heart and blood vessels, including arteries, veins, and capillaries, both systemic and pulmonary. Arterioles are the primary site of vascular resistance and have only one to two layers of smooth muscular walls. Chapter One will provide an overview of the coronary microcirculation, its functions and regulatory mechanisms. The importance of CMD will be summarised in the context of diverse clinic scenarios, considering its pathogenesis, assessment and therapeutic management. The purpose of Chapter Two is to understand the role of arteriolar endothelial dysfunction in CVDs and its underlying mechanisms. Chapter Three will explore the physiopathology, epidemiology, and the diagnosis and treatment of hypertensive retinopathy. Chapter Four reports on angiogenesis, a critical process for reproduction in mammals, which consists of arterioles and blood vessels formation from the existing ones.

Large intracranial lesions are among the most complex and dangerous lesions encountered by neurosurgeons, and a single neurosurgical approach often does not provide a large or safe enough corridor for effective treatment. A combined approach to these surgeries, incorporating open, endoscopic, vascular and keyhole techniques can be more successful. This comprehensive text describes in detail how to select the most appropriate approaches, as well as how to avoid any complications that may arise. High quality videos of the techniques described are available through an online version on Cambridge Core, accessible via the code printed on the inside of the cover. With over 150 colour images supporting the text, this is a definitive reference for anyone involved in intracranial tumor or vascular surgery.
