Peripheral Artery Disease is a circulatory condition usually caused
by the buildup of fatty deposits and calcium in the walls of the
arteries. The condition is often painful and chronic but can be
managed with lifestyle changes and medication. Chapter One
describes the psychological factors associated with peripheral
arterial disease. Chapter Two describes how lifestyle changes play
an important role in the management of diabetes and peripheral
artery disease. Chapter Three explains the role of the family
physician in risk management of peripheral artery disease. Lastly,
Chapter Four focuses on questionnaires for primary care physicians,
which can be used for peripheral arterial disease symptom screening
and assessing functional impairment and quality of life of
patients.
Endovascular neurosurgery is now the most practiced therapeutic
approach for most vascular lesions involving the brain and spinal
cord. At the beginning, balloons were the only available technique;
later coils, embolic agents, and stents are introduced. With the
expansion of endovascular devices and techniques, the treatment
strategies for cerebrospinal vascular diseases have been refined.
Neurosurgeons must have the mindset to embrace and nurture progress
and technological advances. The pioneers of endovascular
neurosurgery considered the impossible and tenaciously stood by
their dreams. Their revolutionary ideas and inventions truly
reflected their courage, faith, and determination. The shift away
from open surgical approaches has had far-reaching implications for
how we train neurosurgical residents and fellows and how we certify
these individuals once their training is completed. With the
maturity of endovascular neurosurgery technology, we need to give
the resident and fellow training for neurovascular surgery. This
book describes the endovascular diagnosis and treatment of vascular
lesions involving the brain and spinal cord using catheters in the
DSA (digital subtraction angiography) unite. The field of
endovascular neurosurgery has resulted in effective endovascular
therapies for carotid-cavernous fistulas(CCFs), intracranial
aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), dural arteriovenous
fistulas, atherosclerosis of cerebral arteries, acute stroke,
carotid artery disease, and vascular tumours of the head, neck, and
spinal vascular malformations and tumours. The scope of practice of
neurovascular endovascular surgery has become complex, requiring
training in specific skill sets and techniques. The evolution of
the neuroendovascular field has resulted in the development of
program requirements for residency or fellowship education in
endovascular neurosurgery.

Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States
and is a leading cause of adult disability and discharge from
hospitals to chronic care facilities. Despite the frequency and
morbidity of stroke, there is a relative paucity of "stroke
experts" such as vascular neurologists and neurocritical care
physicians to care for these patients. Often, cardiologists provide
the majority of care. Clinical research in the diagnosis and
treatment of stroke has grown exponentially over the past two
decades so there is a great deal of new clinical information for
attending physicians to absorb. Including evidence-based
strategies, Ischemic Stroke closes the gap in stroke care by
providing a cogent and intuitive guide for all physicians caring
for stroke patients. Chapters include key topics such as: Emergent
Evaluation of the Suspected Stroke Patient, Clinical Signs and
Symptoms of Stroke, Mechanisms of Ischemic Stroke, Neuroimaging,
Cardiac-Based Evaluation, Thrombolytic Therapy, Endovascular
Therapy, Critical Care Management, Rehabilitation, Cardiac
Arrhythmias, and Structural Heart Disease.
unterstiitzen. Wiederholt hat man mir nahe gelegt, meine
einschlagigen Arbeiten zusammenzu. fassen.
gelOste Fragen aufmerksam machen.

Vielfach hort man
wie del' kritische F. A. Hoffmann richtig betont.

Pelvic Congestion Syndrome - Chronic Pelvic Pain and Pelvic Venous
Disorders: Pelvic congestion syndrome is one of the most
misunderstood and least well-known medical conditions today.
Because doctors most do not look for it, nor treat it: 1 in 3 (30%)
of women with chronic pelvic pain get misdiagnosed and no treatment
1 in 6 (16.7%) of women and 1 in 30 (3%) of men with leg varicose
veins get incomplete treatment and a higher risk of recurrence
Women with intimate varicose veins of vagina, vulva, and labia do
not get offered curative treatment However, research over the last
20 years has led us to know how we can investigate it and cure most
people who have it. Moreover, research is showing how hemorrhoids
(piles), varicocele in men and some erectile dysfunction are also
due to pelvic venous disorders, and how new treatments are being
developed for each. Pelvic Congestion Syndrome - Chronic Pelvic
Pain and Pelvic Venous Disorders explains the concepts, the veins,
how they go wrong to cause the problem - and how specialists at The
Whiteley Clinic have spent 20 years developing the optimal
investigations and treatments for this condition. This book is
aimed at both the public and health care professionals who want to
know more about this fascinating condition that affects millions of
women and men in the world today.
Bariatric or weight loss surgery is the reduction of the size of
the stomach with a gastric band or through removal of a portion of
the stomach, or by resecting and re-routing the small intestine to
a small stomach pouch. Metabolic surgery involves weight loss
treatments and procedures to treat metabolic diseases, especially,
Type 2 diabetes. This book is a guide to techniques in bariatric
and metabolic surgery. Divided into three sections, the text begins
with an explanation of the history of bariatric surgery. The
following section presents 25 clinical cases detailing necessary
operative procedures for different disorders, and the final section
discusses surgical techniques including sleeve gastrectomy, gastric
bypass, and stapling technology. Based on the authors' own
experiences, this quick reference guide is further enhanced by more
than 200 surgical images, diagrams and tables. Key points Quick
reference guide to procedures in bariatric and metabolic surgery

Cardiac catheterization and coronary angiography remain key tools
in the management of patients with coronary heart disease. Although
this is the most frequently used method of coronary
revascularization, general training in cardiology rarely offers
more than the opportunity to assist a more senior operator to
perform angioplasty procedures. This textbook, covering key
procedures and fully revised and updated to include the latest
trials, technology, and new techniques, is essential reading. The
Oxford Textbook of Interventional Cardiology, 2nd edition spans the
whole spectrum of interventional cardiology procedures, including a
novel section on the future of interventional cardiology, and
multiple new chapters covering special devices in percutaneous
coronary intervention. Written by an expert team of international
authors, this book offers guidance on all aspects of interventional
cardiology according the European curriculum, and covers the
evidence-based guidelines for a comprehensive view of the field.
Advances in Phlebology and Venous Surgery Volume 1 contains
chapters covering many of the most interesting areas of Phlebology.
Chapters are all written by international experts in their own
fields. Subjects covered include: - endovenous thermoablation
(Radiofrequency / Laser / Steam) - non-thermal endovenous ablation
(Glue / MOCA) - discussion of LEED - venous leg ulcers - due to
superficial and deep venous disease - transvaginal duplex
ultrasound for the diagnosis of venous reflux - pelvic veins -
diagnosis and treatment for reflux and obstructive disease as well
as other relevant subjects. This book will have something of
interest for everyone who is interested in Phlebology and/or Venous
Surgery. This book is produced by COP College of Phlebology and
some of the contents were presented at the COP International Veins
Meeting in London in March 2017. The College of Phlebology annual
conference is held each March in London, UK.

Head and Neck Vascular Anomalies: A Practical Case-Based Approach
is a useful guide to the management of lesions caused by vascular
anomalies, providing specific treatment algorithms for their
management. This book offers consistent and straightforward
techniques to the more frequently encountered and some of the more
difficult vascular anomalies. Coming from the world-renowned
vascular anomalies center at the University of Arkansas for Medical
Sciences, known for its clinical expertise and multi-disciplinary
approach, editors Dr. Suen and Dr. Richter have over 40 years
combined experience in treating these lesions. With contributed
chapters from international leaders in the field, the editors
present a practical guide, based upon clinical and scientific
evidence, on the approach to diagnosis and management to each
vascular anomaly based upon type, extent and location. The book
provides a case-based approach to simple and complex lesions.
Initial steps for diagnosis followed by a recommended treatment
approach is presented with photographs, imaging and step-by-step
illustrations to surgical or alternative therapies. All presented
information is based upon current literature, providing a timeless
and seamless algorithm to each lesion. Each case begins with a
diagnostic approach, followed by next best steps to imaging
treatment and follow up. This case-based approach is a wonderful
quick resource for those physicians in a variety of specialties
making clinical decisions. With the increasing number of vascular
anomaly centers, and physicians participating in the care of these
patients along with the recent advancements and consistency in
managing these patients, the timing for this text is ideal.
The field of vascular anomalies has grown rapidly in last 25 years.
Molecular genetics has led to discovery of genes that cause
vascular anomalies. Interventional radiology has become a major
contributor to accurate diagnosis and management of previously
untreatable disorders. New pharmacologic therapies are under
investigation and surgical protocols have been established.
Vascular Anomalies: Hemangiomas and Malformations is a
comprehensive and interdisciplinary textbook ideal for
dermatologists, interventional radiologists, surgical specialists,
ophthalmologists, pathologists, geneticists, paediatricians,
hematologic-oncologists, and vascular biologists. With a central
motif of the biologic dichotomy of vascular tumors and vascular
malformations, this book is organized into chapters which address
clinical presentation, diagnostic imaging, molecular genetics,
pathogenesis, histopathology, and management of vascular anomalies.
Generous, full-colour images compliment this extensive volume
written by three colleagues and their teammates from Children's
Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School, with leading
specialists from other centers.
Almost 1 in 2 people suffer from problems with leg veins - so if
you don't have them then someone close to you will. Venous reflux
(the major cause of leg vein problems) can cause tired or aching
legs, swollen or itchy ankles. Many people suffering from venous
reflux are unaware of the problem, until they develop unsightly
varicose veins, thread veins, venous eczema or venous leg ulcers.
Many doctors and nurses are not aware of the new information
available and still treat their patients inappropriately with
creams, bandages or support stockings. "Understanding Venous Reflux
- the cause of varicose veins and leg ulcers" has been written by
Mark Whiteley, an internationally renowned vein expert. With clear
explanations, illustrated by over 50 easy-to-follow diagrams, this
book makes the understanding of venous reflux - the underlying
cause of varicose veins and most venous problems (such as thread
veins, venous leg ulcers, venous eczema, discoloured ankles, etc.)
- accessible to most readers, helping them decide on what treatment
they should seek. For medical and nursing students, as well as all
doctors, nurses and other health care workers who deal with legs
and leg vein problems, this is an essential text.
