In Dostoevsky: The Author as Psychanalyst, Breger discards, or
rather de-emphasizes, Freud's obsessive focus on the oedipal
father-relation and advances the persuasive image of Dostoevsky's
relation to his sensitive, artistic mother and resonance of and
changes in that image in his novels. Breger reveals much that is
new about the novel.
