Watching Over Us, Melinda Lambert's look at modern combat
operations in Iraq, tells a realistically, raw photojournalistic
account of our American soldiers in preparation for and at war. As
a result of a successful military surge in Iraq, the commands have
been able to reduce forces in theatre. In 2008, Washington State's
161 IN, was an integral part of that surge. Their involvement and
fortitude allowed troops continual movement of personnel and
supplies throughout the operational area. 161 provided an
uninhibited ability to operate. By moving cargo with this kind of
force, the enemy witnessed the Army's tenacity and desire to
continue the fight. 161 repeatedly and relentlessly moved along
some of the most dangerous roads int the world regardless of IED's,
EFP's and the threat of being ambushed, which emphatically
displayed their willingness to complete their mission.
