This book forms the third part of the "Handbook of Measurement
Science" series. While the first two volumes dealt with the
theoretical and practical fundamentals of measurement science, this
third volume concentrates upon the factors which are responsible
for the emergence of new measurement systems. The legal aspects of
measurement, the many uses of measurement systems and the recent
advances in design and manufacturing techniques are all explored in
depth. Emphasis is also given to the new technologies which are
influencing measurement systems such as microelectronics, fibre
optics and biosensors.
