Review This Product

Wed, 18 Jun 2008 | Review by: Pat T.

This is probably one of the most important books on parenting ever to have been written. Grille reviews the research of Lloyd de Mause and shows how our parenting practices have evolved over the years. His conclusion is hopeful -- things are getting better. The first part of the book may be a little bit technical for the uninitiated reader, but if you don't understand the first part at first, by the second half you will, and again the news is good. We are moving from an "authoritarian" mode of childrearing (which can create angry or depressed children and later adults), to an "authoritative" mode of childrearing, which produces happy, confident children who will grow up able to use their full potential. This is the book I have been waiting for for along time. What Grille has to say is not entirely new, but he is the first person to put it across in a way that is readable to the lay person, and once you grasp the concepts, easy easy to understand as well. A must read... Highly recommended. (Pat Torngren -- Childbirth and Family Life Educator, Cape Town).
