Clarke's latest work unfurls to a story of romance where a couple
born of the west and educated as journalists find life together in
love of investigative and photojournalism. Their adventures take
them around the world and back to the valley in the west where the
Blue Mountains in the distance welcome them. It is a tale of Kate
growing up in a western valley where she meets Alec as a new member
of the high school's jazz band transferring from a private school.
She realizes he is the young boy she knew in grade school and the
one from the rich family who lived in the large stone house on the
bluff south of town. They graduate and go off in different
directions with their journalism degrees, travelling the world and
receiving merit for their work. They meet again and fall in love.
The story covers the valley in the west from the time of pioneers
and their families, both of their pioneer blood, the journalistic
work of both Kate and Alec, their engagement, her kidnapping, and
many more adventures along the way.
Leah had always wanted to follow the genealogical path of ancestors
her mother had worked on so diligently. Needing to publish for
university requirements, she decided to suit up and go tilt at
windmills (castles) and spend a year in Great Britain. She found
her ancestors' castles and more adventure than she had planned on.
The figure in black parked and walked about six blocks to the
decaying house, a ghostly presence of time past, its porch half
detached from the main house; and the white paint, now shades of
gray, appeared to be scratched bare here and there by wind and
rain. Walking carefully across the rickety porch, looking in all
direction, the dark night figure entered the front entrance, walked
down a long hallway, and found the body where it had been placed
the night before. After carefully removing boards from the washroom
floor, the body slipped easily into the hole; and he poured the
sack of lime on it, nailed back the boards, and crept back into the
night.

Part I of this book is a repeat of Land Above and Part II continues
the saga. In arriving to the Carolinas in the late 1700's, the
McLean family worked hard, raised family, and thanked their fortune
in finding a good life in a new land. Benjamin, knowing the pain of
loss in his earlier life in Northern Ireland, regained love and
wealth and became blessed with a large extended family life. When
his son, Joseph and family, were feared lost at sea, the pain came
flowing back; surely he could not lose this important part of
himself. (Perhaps as before someone else can write better than I
for the jacket of these books).
Born in the western state of Wyoming in the 30's, her point of view
was influenced by the visual and written history of the West that
surrounded her; where the Sioux roamed and established their winter
camps, and western ranchers, like her father and grandfathers
before him, attempted to survive the Great Depression, a major
draught, and a World War. These events shaped her early years and
taught that hardship and discipline meant survival for a nation and
its people. She raised her three children mostly as a single parent
and has had a long life of good health and love for family;
including her three grandchildren. She presently lives in the North
Texas Hill Country with her two pups, Beau and Bandit.
The Legacy is Clarke's collection of short stories and novellas
from 2010 to 2013. This and That is a book of short stories,
including a sailing voyage, animal tales, American Indian stories,
partial rewrite of a classic story, and personal revelations. Time
of Castles: A Search for Ancestors is a fictional travel story.
Leah finds her ancestor's castles and learns of medieval royalty,
as she enjoys friendship and the food and wine of Great Britain.
Season's Sun: Part I. Land Above-In this historical story, Benjamin
finds love and conflict in his native land of Northern Ireland in
the 1700s and later immigrated to America. Season's Sun: Part II. A
New Land-Benjamin's arrival in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1797
and the family's eventual migration to Tennessee and Illinois. Kate
and Alec is a story of their lives and adventures as journalists
and lovers. Puzzle of Suspects is a crime novel with many twists
and turns, romance, and travel.
Delicious cocktails made with minimal alcohol and quality
ingredients to give maximum thirst-quenching satisfaction,
featuring Japanese ingredients and flavours such as sake, whisky,
plum wine, yuzu, sakura and matcha. With the focus on delicious
fruity flavour combos rather than upping the alcohol content,
Japanese cocktails are the perfect beverage for anyone who would
prefer to avoid hard alcohol. Using fresh ingredients, real fruits
and healthful teas, these easy-to-sip quaffs are rather
revitalising instead of ruinous, and allow you to feel positively
fresh the next day. Drinking alcohol is accepted as the norm in
social situations, and Japan is no exception, from
hanami picnics to celebrate cherry blossom season to business
meetings in izakaya restaurants. Rather than force you to order a
soft drink if you want to pace yourself, they offer a
commonly-available selection of classy low-alcohol cocktails. Try a
Lemon Sour made with shochu, soda water and fresh lemon juice, a
Matcha Hai highball, Umeshu (plum wine) and tonic or Red Eye Beer
made with tomato juice. Find out why cocktails are one such
illustration of the Japanese approach to perfecting a craft.
