Persian to English translation and includes Arabic Words and
Phrases to be found in Persian literature. The initial aim
originally laid down for this Dictionary was to prepare a revised
edition of Johnson's enlargement of Wilkins-Richardson's Persian,

increasing the Persian, so as to produce a volume of moderate
dimensions and price, specially adapted to the wants of the English
Student.

The Lexicon Latinitatis Nederlandicae Medii Aevi (Dutch dictionary
of medieval Latin) forms part of the project of the Union
Academique Internationale to replace the old Glossarium of Du Cange
by a set of modern national dictionaries of medieval Latin. Its
sources are formed by those texts, written by Dutch authors or on
Dutch territory from between ca. 800 and 1500, which have been
printed, and include accounts as well as chronicles, lives of
saints, and philosophical and theological treatises. Two fascicles
of the Lexicon are published each year.
Niermeyer's "Mediae Latinitatis Lexicon Minus is a highly practical
lexicon, providing researchers, teaching staff and students in the
field of Medieval History with concise, essential
information.
This new edition is still the "compendious lexicon for rapid
information" envisaged by Niermeyer, but current entries and
definitions have been revised and new entries have been added.
Furthermore, the dictionary is now enhanced with German definitions
and therefore provides French, English and German translations for
every entry of a Medieval Latin concept. All entries are
contextualized with relevant text passages.
In view of the new entries and additional German definitions, the
new edition is bound into two durable hardback volumes.
The Niermeyer "Lexicon Minus has proved to be invaluable to
medievalists for almost 50 years and is an indispensable working
tool for academic libraries.
The revised Lexicon is published simultaneously by Brill Academic
Publishers, Leiden and Wissenschaftliche Buchgesellschaft (WBG),
Darmstadt (WBG only distributes to its members).
Scholars began to collect quotations on which to base a dictionary
of Medieval Latin in 1924. Publication of the fascicules of the
Dictionary of Medieval Latin from British Sources started in 1975
and is expected to continue until 2014. The dictionary records the
continuing usage of classical and late Latin in the British Isles
and by Britons abroad from Gildas (AD 540) to Camden (1600). It
illustrates a continuous tradition of thought and composition in
language based upon and derived from the highest literary register
of Classical and Late Latin, but also incorporating lexical and
syntactic elements from the vernacular languages spoken and written
in Britain and from Greek, Celtic, Germanic, Romance, and Semitic.
Many new formations from these and other languages are revealed -
some of the borrowings recorded in Latin centuries before their
appearance in written vernacular sources.
