Jackson's White Gesso Panels are made of Cradled Pine and MDF board, and can be bought as singles or in packs of ten. These economical panels feature a surface that is tough enough for the most rigorous painting and mixed-media techniques.
Jackson's White Gesso Panels have been hand-coated with a professional acid-free acrylic gesso ground, with added Titanium White. The frame is made of Pine wood, and the board is MDF. This makes them ideal for use with all drawing and painting media. Because these panels have been made by hand, they are not perfectly uniform and may display slight differences in texture. The surface of the panel may appear perfectly smooth, or be slightly textured like cold-pressed watercolour paper. If a perfectly smooth surface is required, they can be given a light sanding with fine grade sandpaper.
These panels are great for watercolour - if you want a smoother, even more absorbent ground, you can add one of our watercolour mediums.
The 10oz traditional medium texture weave used for our Premium Cotton Canvas is suitable for oil and acrylic painting - from thin washes to thick impasto marks, and is universally primed to protect the natural fibres of the cotton. Each canvas is tightly stretched over a sturdy pine wood stretcher frame, and has the look and feel of a canvas that has been made for you by hand. Unique to this range are a number of sizes that have the proportions of the Golden Ratio, the shape considered most aesthetically pleasing throughout western art history. Nothing has been compromised in their manufacture so that nothing is compromised in your finished work. GS = Golden Section size(-) = Crossbar(+) = 2 x Crossbar

With over 100 years of experience in crafting the finest quality
artist canvases, Claessens is recognised worldwide as a leader in
the field. Each Claessens canvas undergoes a rigorous treatment and
production process in order to meet different requirements for
artists.First, all raw canvases are sized with a synthetic PVA
glue. For universal primed canvases, the next step involves
applying a coat of acrylic-bound titanium white paint to the canvas
by means of a knife. As the primer and coating are water-based,
these universal primed canvases are dried in a hot-air oven, where
the water can evaporate more quickly.Universal primed Claessens
canvases are suitable for both oil paint and acrylic paint. For a

Gesso panels made in Italy suitable for a wide variety of techniques thanks to the high absorbancy of the surface. They are handmade and finished with a smooth surface. The 7mm thick wooden base is poplar multi-ply which is stable and lightfast.
Made with acrylic gesso these ultra-smooth boards are very absorbent and you may wish to use extra oil in your oil paint. But, they may not be absorbent enough for use with egg tempera which usually needs genuine gesso (homemade with rabbit skin glue and whiting). If the surface isn't absorbent enough the egg tempera paint may lift off the first layer when you apply a second glaze.

Jackson's Wooden Panels are made of smooth, sanded light plywood, reinforced on the reverse to prevent warping. Sturdy yet lightweight, they are perfect for plein air painting projects and work in the studio.
These panels are made from wood and they are not supplied sealed. This means that liquids are absorbed into the surface and if they get too ‘wet’, there could be a swelling of the veneer. If the panel is to be used for painting then you should seal the surface with a quality glue size or an acrylic based primer. When you're applying acrylic gesso primer, avoid thinning it with water.
After sizing we recommend priming with acrylic gesso and sanding the surface to produce a smooth yet slightly absorbent surface.
Jackson's Wooden Panels can also be used for encaustic painting, or as a work support / drawing board.
Available in 20mm (approx. 3/4") and 50mm (approx. 2") deep profiles, in a wide range of sizes.
Please note: as this is a natural product, small cracks can develop on the surface. These can be removed by sanding the surface before applying the sealer or primer.
Italian-made, a fantastic range of traditional stretched linen and cotton canvases. All the linen and cotton canvases are stretched to the reverse giving a clean edge suitable for displaying without a frame. Only renewable wood (red fir) dried to the right degree of humidity, is employed to assure the best stability of stretcher. A special design of joint and stretcher bar assures resistance to torsion and the perfect control of the stretcher's tension. The care that has gone into the production of these canvases is outstanding.
The linen stretched canvases are ready to use and available in three variations; Oil Primed Extra Fine suitable for Oil painters requiring a smooth surface, Universal Primed Fine Grain suitable for all mediums and Universal Primed Medium grain ideal for the painter who wishes for a more pronounced texture to work on.
