for SATB and organ This is an energetic setting of a traditional
text, with a memorable tune, attractive sequences and exciting
climax, all in a lilting swing. A version for upper voices is also
available.
for SATB and organ The World's Desire was commissioned by the Choir
of Truro Cathedral for their service of Nine Lessons and Carols in
December 2008, to be performed after the eighth lesson. Setting a
text by G. K. Chesterton, it is highly original yet approachable,
and develops the opening melodic motif to provide a sense of
cohesion throughout the piece.
for equal voices in 4 parts
This unaccompanied carol is scored for four equal parts and
comprises a sequence of three rounds. Rhythmic and engaging, this
carol demonstrates the distinctive clarity of Skempton's musical
language. It will particularly appeal to good chamber choirs.
for SSSAAA unaccompanied Published for the very first time, this is
a beautiful arrangement of the old German tune 'Lasst uns das
Kindlein Wiegan', setting words adapted from an old Scots poem by
Ursula Wood. With flowing contrapuntal lines and characteristic
harmonies, O my dear heart will be popular with all upper-voice
choirs.
for SATB and organ or brass quartet and timpani Eleanor Daley sets
this Wesley text in an antiphonal style between the SATB choir and
organ (or brass quartet, parts available separately). The sound is
majestic and declamatory, just as one would expect from an Easter
fanfare, with a hint of modal harmony, resulting in a strong and
accessible Eastertide anthem.
Described as the "life and soul of British contemporary music",
Jane Manning is an internationally celebrated English concert and
opera soprano. In this new follow-up to her highly regarded New
Vocal Repertory, Volumes I and II, she provides a seasoned expert's
guidance and insight into the vocal genre she calls home. Vocal
Repertoire for the Twenty-First Century spans the late middle-20th
century through the second decade of the 21st. Manning's
comprehensive selection of contemporary art songs ranges from the
avant-garde to the more easily accessible, including substantial
song cycles, shorter encore pieces, and songs suitable for
auditions and competitions. The two-volume guide presents
expertly-informed selections tailored to particular voice types.
Each of the 160 selections is accompanied by a highly detailed
performance guide, music examples, levels of difficulty, and a
brief encapsulation of vocal characteristics or challenges
contained in the piece. A supplemental companion website provides
composer biographies and an up-to-date list of recommended
recordings. With a focus on younger composers in addition to
prominent figures, Manning encourages singers to refresh and expand
their recital repertoire into less familiar territory, and discover
the rewards therein. Volume 2 features works written from 2000
onwards, including pieces from contemporary composers Mohammed
Fairouz ("Annabel Lee"), Missy Mazzoli ("As Long as We Live"),
Judith Weir ("The Voice of Desire"), and Raymond Yiu ("The Earth
and Every Common Sight").
for SATB and piano four-hands or orchestra Wilberg sets the Eleanor
Farjeon text to the traditional Gaelic melody in 9/8 meter. Against
a lightly bouncing accompaniment, the women and men alternate
singing in unison, until they join in verse three. Suitable for
children's services and songs of praise. Orchestral material is
available on rental.
for SATB and piano or orchestra Get into the Christmas spirit with
Mager's well-crafted setting of If ye would hear the angels sing.
The optional orchestral accompaniment for winds, harp, and strings
adds a wonderful texture beneath the accessible choral lines. A
version for unison or SSA is also available. Orchestral material is
available on hire.
for S or SSA and piano or chamber orchestra Get into the Christmas
spirit with Mager's well-crafted setting of If ye would hear the
angels sing. The optional orchestral accompaniment for winds, harp,
and strings adds a wonderful texture beneath the accessible choral
lines. A version for SATB is also available. Orchestral material is
available on hire.
for SATB and organ, or piano four hands, or orchestra The new organ
accompaniment was transcribed by Peter Stevens for the King's
College, Cambridge Nine Lessons and Carols service in 2007. The
organ part is presented under Wilberg's original choral parts for
an effective alternative to the already existing version for piano
four hands. Orchestral material is available on hire.
for SATB and organ This tuneful and gentle setting of the Gaelic
blessing is a perfect option for weddings and general use. Its
shapely melody, floating soprano descant, and mellifluous closing
'Amen' make this a setting of great beauty.
for SATB and organ This inspiring and uplifting setting of a
well-known text will appeal to all SATB choirs looking for fresh
and accessible new repertoire for general church use. Alongside his
own material Chilcott includes the traditional 'Morning has broken'
melody, allowing members of the congregation to join in with the
choir.
for SATB accompanied and unaccompanied
Fred Onovwerosuoke and the St. Louis African Chorus carefully
selected the favorite, most requested songs from their workshops,
while trying to represent a wide spectrum of Africas regions and
cultural practicessongs of spirituality, religion, community, work,
and play from Nigeria, Ghana, Congo, Benin Republic, South Africa,
Namibia, Gambia, and others. The result is Songs of Africa, a
user-friendly resource that will satisfy the hunger for new,
diverse choral repertoire. As a performance aid, this exciting
collection also includes a pronunciation guide, notes on
performance practice and cultural context, and, where accompaniment
is needed or suggested, some accessible percussion charts.
for SATB and organ or orchestra This meaningful text by David
Warner is accompanied by beautiful leaps and subsequent suspensions
in the memorable melody, which is supported by rich textures in the
organ and orchestra. Appropriate throughout the year, this piece is
especially suited for Pentecost. Orchestral material is available
on hire.
This gentle song is taken from the song cycle 'Songs for Seven
Storeys', which Bob Chilcott wrote to celebrate the opening of the
New Evelina Children's Hospital on London's South Bank. With a
singable, folksy tune and an atmospheric piano part, this song has
wide appeal. Orchestral material for 'Songs for Seven Storeys' is
available on hire from the OUP Hire Library, or appropriate
overseas agent.
for SATB, organ, and optional strings A gentle melody and lush
harmonic backdrop create a stunning musical setting of a text by
eminent American hymn writer, Thomas Troeger. One Gift sheds new
light on the gifts that the Magi bring to the Christ child. The
strings add an attractively profound dimension to the work. Score
and string parts on are sale (978-0-19-387034-5)
for SA and piano This attractive setting of a text by Christina
Rossetti combines a shapely melody with a gentle, rippling piano
accompaniment. Ideal for Easter concerts and services.
Wilberg arranged this familiar hymn for the funeral of US President
Gerald Ford. To distinguish this arrangement from the other known
settings of O God our help in ages past, Wilberg chose a much lower
key for a warmer, more comforting sound. Also, in the last verse,
the melody is passed to the tenors and altos, which allows the
outer voices to develop and further broaden the texture. Whether
performing this work with piano accompaniment or with orchestra, it
will certainly rejuvenate this traditional favorite.
