The Forge will appeal to fans of the Kendricks' films: Lifemark,
Overcomer, War Room, Courageous, Fireproof, Facing the Giants, and
Flywheel.
As Cynthia Wright’s marriage implodes, she is forced to raise her
teenage son, Isaiah, alone. The pressure of providing for them through
her salon is a full-time job in itself. When Cynthia sees Isaiah
pulling away and escaping into video games, tensions rise and prayers
feel unanswered. Angry and hurt, Isaiah starts acting like the father
who abandoned him, and Cynthia gives him an ultimatum while turning to
her twin sister, Elizabeth Jordan, for support. Elizabeth enlists a
seasoned prayer warrior who challenges Cynthia to pray boldly and
believe God for the impossible.
Caught in the middle, Isaiah longs for respect, but sees no clear path
to becoming a good man. Desperate for a job, he wanders into Moore
Fitness, Inc. and encounters the owner, Joshua Moore, who introduces
him to the concept of working for a coach rather than a boss. Needing
the work, Isaiah reluctantly begins his mentoring process with Joshua.
While Cynthia clings to hope, no one sees the coming storms brewing at
the company and in Isaiah’s heart.
The Forge is about the power of prayer, the transformation only God can
achieve, and the lasting influence one person can have on others.
Rene Girard holds up the gospels as mirrors that reveal our broken
humanity, and shows that they also reflect a new reality that can
make us whole. Like Simone Weil, Girard looks at the Bible as a map
of human behavior, and sees Jesus Christ as the turning point
leading to new life.
The title echoes Jesus' words: "I saw Satan falling like
lightning from heaven". Girard persuades us that even as our world
grows increasingly violent the power of the Christ-event is so
great that the evils of scapegoating and sacrifice are being
defeated even now. A new community, God's nonviolent kingdom, is
being realized -- even now.
This volume approaches the Word of Faith as a worldview, and
analyses the movement through N. T. Wright's model for
worldview-analysis in order to provide necessary nuance and
complexity to scholarly interpretations of the Word of Faith. The
reader receives insights into the movement's narrative, semiotic,
practical and propositional dimensions, which cumulatively offer a
multifaceted understanding of how the Word of Faith interprets
reality and engages with the world. The analysis shows that there
is a narrative core to Word of Faith beliefs in the form of a
unique theological story with focus set on the present restoration
of Eden's authority and blessings. This study demonstrates how the
Word of Faith operates as a distinct worldview that parses the
world through the lens of faith's causative power to affect a
direct correspondence between present reality and Eden's
perfection. The findings advance a critical and therapeutic
approach that acknowledges how the worldview both strengthens and
subverts Pentecostalism.
The Alpha Guide is a companion to either the Alpha Film Series or
Alpha with Nicky Gumbel. This guide is divided up by session with
an easy-to-read outline so that guests can follow along during each
talk. With simple bullet-point organization and plenty of room for
notes, the guide functions as an invaluable resource to the guest
during Alpha, and as a reference tool for individual reflection
long after Alpha. It is considered an essential resource for Alpha
guests as well as the host and helpers on Alpha. Alpha creates an
environment of hospitality where people can bring their friends,
family, and work colleagues to explore the Christian faith, ask
questions, and share their point of view. Alpha makes it easy to
invite friends to have spiritual conversations which explore life's
biggest questions in a safe and respectful way. Alpha's approach to
hospitality, faith, and discussion is designed to welcome everyone,
especially those who might not describe themselves as Christians or
church-goers. Each session includes time for a large group meal,
short teaching, and small group discussion.
