In 'The Holy Thief', Cadfael is on the hunt for a beautiful slave girl and the bones of St Winifred, both of which have mysteriously disappeared from the Abbey. In 'The Potter's Field', Cadfael uncovers a terrible web of jealousy, adultery and suicide pacts when he examines the past of a potter who has entered the monastery under suspicious circumstances. Based on Stephen King's novella THE BODY, director Rob Reiner's STAND BY ME is the disarmingly tender and subtly sublime story of four kids on the precipice of early adulthood who embark upon a quest. Kathy Bates and Jessica Tandy star in this drama directed by Jon Avnet. The film follows the story of how Evelyn (Bates), a bored housewife, meets Ninny (Tandy), an old woman who tells stories about her home town of Whistle Stop. The stories centre around two women who ran a café, Idgie (Mary Stuart Masterson) and her friend Ruth (Mary-Louise Parker), whose violent husband Frank disappeared. Evelyn finds inspiration in the stories and her outlook and life improve.

After delivering parts for the atomic bomb that would later be dropped on Hiroshima in 1945, the naval cruiser USS Indianapolis is torpedoed by a Japanese submarine while patrolling the Philippine Sea.
