Since the early 1980's, the IFIP WG8.1 conferences have provided a forum for the presentation and exchange of research results and practical experiences in the field of Information System Engineering. The WG8.1 '02 Conference is held in the beautiful Kanazawa area in North western Japan. As companies become more international in their strategies and activities, information systems themselves span the globe, led by the Internet. While the risks from failed systems may be enhanced due to higher expectations and increased complexity, we have the opportunity to learn more about the nature of information systems and to develop new engineering techniques and methods to improve the development of information services in a World Wide Web context. The new organizational paradigms of global cooperation and collaboration require new ways and means for their support. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can and will play a significant role in this support. However, the many currently available and seemingly conflicting solutions, the confusing terminology, the lack of business justification, and last but not least the insufficient understanding of the technology by the end user community has significantly hampered the large scale application of the relevant ICT support and thereby the acceptance of the new paradigms. Many of these issues have been addressed in the workshops of the international initiative on Enterprise Inter- and Intra-Organizational Integration, which has been supported by the European IST Programme and NIST. The main subjects of the initiative: relations between knowledge management and business process modeling, interoperability of business processes and process models, enterprise engineering and integration, and representation of process models.Ontologies and agent technologies - the latter with their relations to ontologies and models - have been further subjects of discussions in several workshops. Results of the initiative are reported in this volume, which comprises the proceedings of the International Conference on Enterprise Integration and Modeling Technology (ICEIMT'02). The conference was sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and held in Valencia, Spain in April 2002. BE 2002 is the second in a series of conferences on eCommerce, eBusiness, and eGovemment organised by the three IFIP committees TC6, TC8, and TCll. As BE 2001 did last year in Zurich, BE 2002 continues to provide a forum for users, engineers, and researchers from academia, industry and government to present their latest findings in eCommerce, eBusiness, and eGovernment applications and the underlying technologies which support those applications. To bring it to the point: the Internet has redefined the way electronic business is performed. This book contains revised versions of papers presented on scientific workshop "Modeling Multi-commodity Trade: Information exchange methods," which took place in November 2010 atWarsaw University of Technology. It summarizes results of the research work supported so far by scientific grant "Methods and architectures of information interchange for electronic trade on infrastructural markets" (see page xi), and some earlier research work on multi-commodity markets modeling. Though partial results of the research were published earlier, the book gives the most complete view on results of our research in the field of modeling the trade on complex multi-commodity infrastructural markets.
