Developments in information communication technologies (ICTs) have altered the fabric of youth culture in terms of a young person's access to information and ability to communicate with a global audience. The conditions, opportunities, and limitations of using digital media are different for marginalized urban youth. In order to harness the educational value of digital media in the lives of disenfranchised youth, we must understand its potential as a means of empowerment. Central to this book is the development of a model for working with youth using ICTs called digital youth praxis (DYP), which offers praxis orientation of ICTs that are critical, creative, and grounded in social justice. This model includes three tenets: the DYP H3 model, used for understanding context and ICT creation practices; the DYP phases, which offers six phases for critical ICT making; and the DYP typology, which offers insight on three different levels of ICT engagement and what they include. The purpose of this model is to clarify concepts and propose interdisciplinary relationships among concepts, provide a context for interpreting the findings, explain observations and creative content, and to encourage theory development that is useful to practice. Providing insight based on community-based fieldwork with marginalized youth, the interdisciplinary nature of Digital Youth Praxis is an excellent guide for formal and informal educators interested or engaged in youth media productions.
By the millennium most government departments and businesses will rely on some sort of GIS to conduct their everyday activities. The power and speed of such a tool in planning, research and managing spatial databases is invaluable. However, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the legal implications of GIS are as convoluted as those raised by the Internet. This is already becoming a field which is stretching legal systems around the world to their limit. Users, practitioners, developers, and custodians of data need a clear guide. This book, avoiding technological and legal jargon, clarifies the issues of the rights, limitations, and responsibilities of GIS. Geographic Information Systems and the Law addresses the legal relations between those who provide data and those who use the data. Areas covered include:

Angesichts der Globalisierung suchen Unternehmen nach Moglichkeiten, veranderten Marktanforderungen gerecht zu werden. The Definitive Guide to the Microsoft Enterprise Library introduces one of the most exciting and popular .NET-oriented initiatives, the Enterprise Library. The EL offers nine classes of reusable code, or blocks, that are used to solve a variety of common problem spaces. These problems cover a number of topics, including configuration, data access, exception management, caching, application updates, UI separation, asynchronous invocation, logging, security, and XML-based information aggregation. Author Keenan Newton, a senior consultant for noted Microsoft Partner Magenic, begins the book with an introduction to common challenges, explaining the conditions that brought about the creation of the EL. After an EL overview, subsequent chapters offer detailed information about each of the nine blocks. The book concludes by outlining the framework available for creating custom application blocks. You'll be able to build .NET applications faster and more efficiently by taking advantage of readily available code developed and released by Microsoft's Patterns and Practices group. All book examples are based on a theme project that develops a point-of-sale application for a cosmetics company. You will be introduced to these technologies in conjunction with real-world scenarios.

This book provides a comprehensive treatment of the rapidly changing world of Web-based business technologies and their often-disruptive innovations. The history of the Web is a short one. Indeed many college graduates today were not even born when the Web first emerged. It is therefore an opportune time to view the Web as having reached the point of graduation. The Web has led to new ways in which businesses connect and operate, and how individuals communicate and socialize; related technologies include cloud computing, social commerce, crowd sourcing, and the Internet of Things, to name but a few. These developments, including their technological foundations and business impacts, are at the heart of the book. It contextualizes these topics by providing a brief history of the World Wide Web, both in terms of the technological evolution and its resultant business impacts. The book was written for a broad audience, including technology managers and students in higher education. It is also intended as a guide for people who grew up with a background in business administration or engineering or a related area but who, in the course of their career paths, have reached a point where IT-related decisions have become their daily business, e.g., in digital transformation. The book describes the most important Web technologies and related business applications, and especially focuses on the business implications of these technologies. As such, it offers a solid technology- and business-focused view on the impact of the Web, and balances rules and approaches for strategy development and decision making with a certain technical understanding of what goes on "behind the scenes."
