Every solution to every problem known to the human race lives in you. Inside each of us is a longing for a deeper truth, a deeper meaning. For centuries humanity has been searching every corner of our earth, plumbing the mysteries of the human mind and heart, in hopes of satisfying this quest of our souls. What we've failed to realize is that the greatest Truth is revealed in the greatest mystery in the universe: Christ lives in you. It isn't your destiny to live a life that is merely "getting by" or riddled with shame and fear. The ultimate price was paid for the ultimate temple--you. Not just for eternity's sake but for the sake of the world. In this revolutionary new book, Eric Johnson, senior leader and pastor of Bethel Church, helps you understand that the vast, omniscient, benevolent God of the universe trusts you! And when His image begins to define you, you'll find your life becoming passionate, powerful and purposeful. Discover who you really are. Trust the God who makes you worthy. And change the world. "I am grateful that my friend Eric Johnson has written Christ in You, to encourage the Church to embrace all that is available for us."--Banning Liebscher, founder and director, Jesus Culture; lead pastor, Jesus Culture Sacramento "Eric's book inspired me to explore my beliefs, apply truth and walk in the freedom that Jesus gave us. But more than anything, it made me want to love God and people well."--Kelly Clark, four-time Olympian; Olympic gold medalist and two-time Olympic bronze medalist, snowboard halfpipe "A powerful, thought-provoking tool. If you are drawn to the majesty and mystery of authentic living, read on!"--Leif Hetland, president and founder, Global Mission Awareness; author, Seeing through Heaven's Eyes "It will dare and challenge you to believe that greatness awaits you when you walk by faith in the awareness of the greater One who lives within you!"--Bishop Mark J. Chironna, M.A., Ph.D., Church on the Living Edge, Orlando, Florida
This book is the primer on human trafficking in North America. In recent years, Americans have woken up to the reality that human trafficking is not just something that happens in other countries. But what most still do not understand is that neither is it something that just happens to "other people" such as runaways or the disenfranchised. The human trafficker is no respecter of faith, education, or socioeconomic status, and even kids who are raised in solid families in middle and upper class suburbs can fall victim. Likewise, labor trafficking happens in our cities, neighborhoods, and rural areas. Through true stories and years of boots-on-the-ground experience, including at the Super Bowl, anti-trafficking expert Nita Belles teaches readers everything they need to know about human trafficking in the United States and what they can do to join the fight against it. She helps concerned parents, friends, teachers, law enforcement, government officials, and other leaders understand all forms of trafficking, identify risk factors, and take practical steps to keep their loved ones and neighbors safe from predators.
Understanding the New Testament is a daunting but exciting task. Our world is so different from that of the first century. Yet it is important to understand the context and content of the New Testament if we are to be faithful followers. Now in paper, this survey addresses the who, what, where, when, why, and how questions that readers of the Bible may have, such as: How can we tell if what is written in the New Testament is true history or just mythology? When were these books written and why? and What can today's believers get out of letters addressed to people who lived two millennia ago? Written in an easy, informal style, this survey is accessible and enjoyable to anyone who wants to better understand the New Testament.
This classic schoolroom drama of a black teacher in London's tough East End who triumphs over bigotry and ignorance to change the lives of his students forever was hailed by the New York Times as "a book that the reader devours quickly, ponders slowly, and forgets not at all" With opportunities for black men limited in post-World War II London, Rick Braithwaite, a former Royal Air Force pilot and Cambridge-educated engineer, accepts a teaching position that puts him in charge of a class of angry, unmotivated, bigoted white teenagers whom the system has mostly abandoned. When his efforts to reach these troubled students are met with threats, suspicion, and derision, Braithwaite takes a radical new approach. He will treat his students as people poised to enter the adult world. He will teach them to respect themselves and to call him "Sir." He will open up vistas before them that they never knew existed. And over the course of a remarkable year, he will touch the lives of his students in extraordinary ways, even as they in turn, unexpectedly and profoundly, touch his. Based on actual events in the author's life, To Sir, With Love is a powerfully moving story that celebrates courage, commitment, and vision, and is the inspiration for the classic film starring Sidney Poitier. "Moving and inspiring. . . . A book that the reader devours quickly, ponders slowly, and forgets not at all." -The New York Times Book Review "Fine, and genuinely touching." -Caryl Phillips E. R. Braithwaite was born in British Guiana (now Guyana) in 1912. Educated at the City College of New York and the University of Cambridge, he served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. Braithwaite spent 1950 to 1960 in London, first as a schoolteacher and then as a welfare worker-experiences he describes in To Sir, With Love and Paid Servant, respectively. In 1966 he was appointed Guyana's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations. He has also held positions at the World Veterans Federation and UNESCO, was a professor of English at New York University's Institute for Afro-American Affairs, and taught creative writing at Howard University. The author of five nonfiction books and two novels, he currently lives in Washington, DC.
Sex, Tarot, and Astrology meet in this sensual 78-card Tarot deck by well-known erotic comic artist Milo Manara. The artist's unique interpretations of the Major and Minor Arcana incorporate his usual playful, witty style. The Majors retain most of the traditional names, with The Punishment replacing The Hanged Man and The Mirror replacing The Wheel of Fortune. The Minor Arcana suits are named according to the element associated with each suit: fire, water, air, and earth. This seductive deck cleverly blends eroticism, art, and divination. Contains explicit content. The companion booklets for most Lo Scarabeo decks are in five languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German.
Being human is a lifelong journey of becoming. This journey defines
our humanity, for it is a journey toward our source and our
fulfillment, described in Christian theology as union with God. If
we remain open to God as our sense of self awakens, we experience a
deeper consciousness of being in him. The self that emerges during
this process is larger, more enlightened, and whole.
Despite claiming unbelief in God or any higher power that may have designed or created the world and all that is in it, modern scientists often write and speak of "chance" as some kind of being or force that can "cause "things to happen. In one breath they push the evolution agenda and in the next they say that creatures were "designed" with specific traits. In this classic book, R. C. Sproul and Keith Mathison call the scientific world to employ logic and clarity in their discourse, to leave the word "chance" as an abstract concept to describe mathematical possibilities rather than an ontological being that can actually "cause" change. This expanded edition includes a new chapter dealing with the most recent attempts to defend irrational scientific statements. Two new appendices answer critics and review other literature on scientific discoveries that support belief in a Creator God.

Volcanoes are capable of acts of pyrotechnical prowess verging on magic: they spout black magma more fluid than water, create shimmering cities of glass at the bottom of the ocean and frozen lakes of lava on the moon and can even tip entire planets over. Between lava that melts and re-forms the landscape, and noxious volcanic gases that poison the atmosphere, volcanoes have threatened life on Earth countless times in our planet's history. Yet despite their reputation for destruction, volcanoes are inseparable from the creation of our planet. A lively and utterly fascinating guide to these geologic wonders, Super Volcanoes revels in the incomparable power of volcanic eruptions past and present, Earthbound and otherwise-and recounts the daring and sometimes death-defying careers of the scientists who study them. Science journalist and volcanologist Robin George Andrews explores how these eruptions reveal secrets about the worlds to which they belong, describing the stunning ways in which volcanoes can sculpt the sea, land and sky, and even influence the machinery that makes or breaks the existence of life. Walking us through the mechanics of some of the most infamous eruptions on Earth, Andrews outlines what we know about how volcanoes form, erupt and evolve, as well as what scientists are still trying to puzzle out. How can we better predict when a deadly eruption will occur-and protect communities in the danger zone? Is Earth's system of plate tectonics, unique in the solar system, the best way to forge a planet that supports life? And if life can survive and even thrive in Earth's extreme volcanic environments-superhot, super acidic and super saline surroundings previously thought to be completely inhospitable-where else in the universe might we find it? Traveling from Hawai'i, Yellowstone, Tanzania and the ocean floor to the moon, Venus and Mars, Andrews illuminates the cutting-edge discoveries and lingering scientific mysteries surrounding these phenomenal forces of nature.
Stunning New Novel from Award-Winning Author
One of the "Best Books of 2013," Worship Leader This book takes the principles found in Constance Cherry's successful The Worship Architect--in which she provided dynamic blueprints for designing worship services--and applies them to special services in the life of the church. Cherry, a worship professor and practitioner, offers theological reflection, practical guidance, and suggested resources to help worship leaders and ministry students in training to create meaningful special services related to the sacraments, life passages, and other occasions. Cherry sets forth a process concerning worship design for special services and demonstrates how this process is conducive to virtually any style of worship practiced today in a myriad of Christian communities. She includes a model order for each service type, including weddings, funerals, baptisms, child dedications, Holy Communion, and more. The book not only explains what leaders do in order to preside at special services and how to do it, but also why they make certain choices. Each chapter includes discussion questions, practical exercises, and a basic glossary.
In 2006, few Americans were expecting the economy to collapse.
Today the American church is in a similar position, on the
precipice of a great spiritual recession. While we focus on a few
large churches and dynamic leaders that are successful, the
church's overall membership is shrinking. Young Christians are
fleeing. Our donations are drying up. Political fervor is dividing
us. Even as these crises eat at the church internally, our once
friendly host culture is quickly turning hostile and antagonistic.
How can we avoid a devastating collapse?
God's Word and God's Spirit Lead You to Experience God's Presence "Get on your knees with an outspread Bible," A.W. Tozer challenged his congregation, "and linger in the presence of God." Much has been claimed about the Bible that has obscured the true significance of Scripture for the Christian's life. But now, this never-before-published teaching from renowned preacher and theologian A.W. Tozer brings clarity where there has been confusion. Can we trust the Bible? What is Scripture for? According to Tozer, the Holy Spirit operates through the written Word of God to move believers into an ever deeper experience of God's presence. God's Power for Your Life is more than information about the Bible, however; this book is a guide for experiencing fellowship with the Father through His Word. Discover all the Bible is meant to be for your life with God.
