geacht. Deze boeken worden Deuterocanonieke boeken genoemd.

RELIGION / PERSONAL GROWTHPLAY THE ORIGINAL GAME OF SELF-KNOWLEDGE
USING THE ENCLOSED FULL-COLOR FOLDOUT GAME BOARD Just as the
origins of modern playing cards are rooted in the tarot, the
popular children's game of Chutes and Ladders is derived from the
ancient Hindu game Leela, or Snakes and Arrows, which charts the
ups and downs of the soul's path toward reunion with the Infinite.
Snakes and Arrows was designed by the seers and saints of India as
a tool for understanding the relationship of the individual self to
the Absolute Self. For thousands of years the 72 spaces on this
game board have enabled players to chart the paths that represent
the course of their lives. Each space represents a virtue or a
vice, an aspect of consciousness, or a plane of reality and is
accompanied by a commentary explaining its meaning. The player's
progress on the board is dictated by the fall of a die
corresponding to the forces of karma. Repeated encounters with the
snakes and arrows on the board reveal the full meaning of the
commentaries and can give shape to habitual patterns of the player,
resulting in greater self-understanding and even a gradual
detachment from the ego's delusions. The Yoga of Snakes and Arrows
assists the seeker through the stages and trials of
self-development, mirroring both the obstacles of karma and the
rewards of self-obtained insight. There is really only one game in
life and that is Leela, the game of self-knowledge and the
universal play of cosmic energies. Harish Johari (1934-1999) was a
respected teacher, artist, and composer who studied with many of
the great saints of India. He worked for decades to introduce the
culture of his homeland to the West and authored twelvebooks on
Eastern spirituality, including Breath, Mind, and Consciousness;
Chakras; Ayurvedic Healing Cuisine; The Healing Power of Gemstones;
Numerology; and Tools for Tantra.

Set the stage for unhindered healing. Rejection, depression, guilt,
fear--evidence of spiritual bondage in today's world is rampant.
The hurt is real, but so is the good news! In this groundbreaking,
classic work, Chester and Betsy Kylstra show how you can trace pain
and woundedness back to four foundational sources. True, lasting
restoration and healing take place by dealing with these four
sources together in an integrated way, instead of as separate
areas. They are * release from ancestral sins and curses *
replacement of destructive beliefs with godly ones * healing from
emotional and spiritual pain * deliverance from demonic oppression
This well-proven manual is designed for both personal recovery and
ministry to others. In it, the Kylstras provide guiding Scriptures,
step-by-step processes, self-inventories, visual aids, tables and
real-life stories of people being restored through this integrated,
fourfold approach. You can live free! Become who you are meant to
be, and help others do the same. "I heartily recommend this book to
all who would heal others or be healed themselves."--John Sandford,
co-founder, Elijah House, Inc. "An outstanding, life-changing
book!"--Dr. Che Ahn, senior pastor, HROCK Church; co-founder,
Harvest International Ministry "This book expresses the most
balanced and workable ministry in the area of biblical healing that
I have ever witnessed or experienced."--Dr. Bill Hamon, founder and
bishop, Christian International Ministries Network "The Kylstras'
systematic teaching will restore your foundations to be truly free
in Christ."--John Arnott, founding pastor, Catch the Fire
To us
it is just dirt,
the ground we walk on...
But to Dave
it was clay,
the plain and basic stuff
upon which he formed a life
as a slave nearly 200 years ago.
Dave was an extraordinary artist, poet, and potter living in South
Carolina in the 1800s. He combined his superb artistry with deeply
observant poetry, carved onto his pots, transcending the
limitations he faced as a slave. In this inspiring and lyrical
portrayal, National Book Award nominee Laban Carrick Hill's
elegantly simple text and award-winning artist Bryan Collier's
resplendent, earth-toned illustrations tell Dave's story, a story
rich in history, hope, and long-lasting beauty.
The Apgar Score is known the world over: a test given to babies to
determine their health moments after they are born. Less well-known
is the story of the brilliant, pioneering woman who invented it.
Born at the turn of the twentieth century, Virginia “Ginny”
Apgar soared above what girls were expected to do—or not do. She
wasn’t quiet, she wore all sorts of outfits, she played the
sports she wanted to—and she pursued the career she chose,
graduating near the top of her class at Columbia University and
becoming only the second board-certified female anaesthesiologist
in the United States. The simple five-step test she
created—scribbled on the back of a piece of paper in answer to a
trainee’s question—became the standard and continues to impact
countless newborn babies’ lives today. Ginny adored science,
hated cooking, drove fast, made her own violins, earned a pilot’s
license and travelled the world. Here, Carrie Pearson’s jaunty
storytelling and Nancy Carpenter’s playful illustrations capture
the energy and independence of a woman who didn’t slow down for
anything—and changed newborn care forever.
Do you watch movies with your eyes open? You buy your tickets and
concessions, and you walk into the theater. Celluloid images flash
at twenty-four frames per second, and the hypnotic sequence of
moving pictures coaxes you to suspend disbelief and be entertained
by the implausible. Unfortunately, many often suspend their beliefs
as well, succumbing to subtle lessons in how to behave, think and
even perceive reality. Do you find yourself hoping that a sister
will succeed in seducing her sibling's husband, that a thief will
get away with his crime, that a serial killer will escape judgment?
Do you, too, laugh at the bumbling priest and seethe at the
intolerant and abusive evangelist? Do you embrace worldviews that
infect your faith and then wonder, after your head is clear,
whether your faith can survive the infection? In this thoroughly
revised and updated edition of his popular book, Brian Godawa
guides you through the place of redemption in film, the tricks
screenwriters use to communicate their messages, and the mental and
spiritual discipline required for watching movies.Hollywood
Worldviews helps you enter a dialogue with Hollywood that leads to
a happier ending, one that keeps you aware of your culture and
awake to your faith.
The last time you whistled a tune or hummed a song-why did you
choose that one? You may not consider yourself a musical person,
but your little act of unintended music may be the key to unlocking
within you a wealth of unsuspected creativity-a kind of creativity
that goes way beyond music, too.
Lane Arye, PhD, a musician himself, focuses on the music that
people do not intend to make. Using the highly regarded
psychological model called Process Work, developed by Arnold
Mindell, PhD, Arye has been teaching students around the world how
to awaken their creativity, using music as the starting point, but
including all art forms and ways of expression.
The unintentional appears at moments when some hidden part of
us, something beyond our usual awareness, suddenly tries to express
itself. If we start paying attention to what is trying to happen
rather than to what we think should happen, we open the door to
self-discovery and creativity. Sometimes what we regard as
"mistakes" in self-expression are in fact treasures.
The book is rich with real-life stories, ideas, and practical
techniques for unlocking creativity, which Arye dispenses with
humor, insight, and enthusiasm.

Highly acclaimed professor of literature David Lyle Jeffrey offers
a theological reading of Luke in this addition to the well-received
Brazos Theological Commentary on the Bible. This commentary, like
each in the series, is designed to serve the church--providing a
rich resource for preachers, teachers, students, and study
groups--and demonstrate the continuing intellectual and practical
viability of theological interpretation of the Bible.
A fiercehearted woman looks life in the face and says, "You can't beat me." She knows love is a risk but reaches out anyway. She chases Jesus with a tender, world-changing wildness. She never gives in, never gives up, and never lets go. Best of all, the potential to be a fiercehearted woman is inside each and every woman on earth.
In her most powerful book yet, beloved bestselling author Holley Gerth inspires her readers to become the stronger, braver, truer women they long to be by sharing personal stories of her own struggles and victories. As readers join Holley on this journey, they'll discover a freedom they never imagined could be theirs: the freedom to experience life, love, and faith to the fullest because fear can no longer hold them back.
For the woman who is restless or longing for more, Fiercehearted is an invitation to the life God has always meant for her to embrace.
A landmark work from the intellectually auspicious author of Orientalism that explores the long-overlooked connections between the Western imperial endeavor and the culture that both reflected and reinforced it. "Said is a brilliant . . . scholar, aesthete and political activist."--Washington Post Book World.
