One of the most popular drawing guides ever published, The Art of
Drawing has been an informative and thorough guide to several
generations of aspiring artists. For fifty years, Willy Pogany has
given the main principles of drawing in a simple, constructive way.
By following the sequences laid out in the lessons, students
quickly master the art of drawing. As a further aid, Pogany gives a
complete anatomical description of the body for each section,
including a list of all bones and a description of the muscles and
their uses. The Art of Drawing provides a complete drawing system
and includes hundreds of illustrations.
Art history has been given a fun feline makeover.

When watching a masterful sketcher, it seems that they create
elaborate sketches with ease, tracing their pencils on the page and
bringing to life rich and detailed drawings. After sweating away
hours trying to create a simple sketch, you may find that yours
pales in comparison, looking amateurish and unprofessional. Why is
it that you can't do what these 'masters' can? While many assume
the difference comes down to accurate strokes and natural talent,
you couldn't be further from the truth. Accuracy is not everything
- confidence is. And, in this book, Hlavacs helps you to build up
your confidence, moving through each layer of drawing and helping
you understand exactly why one drawing looks more professional than
another. This book breaks down the fear around sketching, walking
you through how to create intricate sketches without difficulty. No
other book teaches sketching in such a natural way, allowing anyone
- no matter levels of talent or their past in drawing - to learn
how to make this beautiful skill an intuitive process. Hlavacs
demonstrates sketching as a pathway of logical steps, starting with
the most basic elements and then adding further layers to the
sketches as the book progresses. With a range of exercises to move
through and pages filled with the psychology of why humans are
drawn to certain sketches over others, this book will turn you into
the master you've always admired. Instead of aiming for perfection,
Hlavacs teaches you how to draw emotionally, using confidence in
place of skill and understanding in place of talent. No matter who
you are, The Exceptionally Simple Theory of Sketching will give you
rules and demonstrations that will turn every sketch you create
into a masterpiece.
Found in our archives, the Black's Sketchbooks are a series of
books produced in the early 20th century by a group of well-known
artists. Each book contains pen sketches of iconic English and
Scottish cities and counties. There are also some books on
Continental cities such as Paris and Venice. The result is a
charming series of books that present a fascinating look at British
and European locations as they were almost a century ago. This
title is a delightful look at Brighton and its environs in 1919.
The must-have guide for all artists who draw the human figure! In
Morpho: Fat and Skin Folds, artist and teacher Michel Lauricella
presents a unique approach to learning to draw the human body. The
typical approach to teaching anatomy and the sketching of the human
form most often focuses on the skeleton and musculature. What often
goes ignored is the skin itself--how it moves and the expressions
it creates as the body moves and changes positions. This book
presents a simplified and practical vision of the fat and skin
folds of the human body to help you in your drawing studies,
encouraging both accuracy and a rich, diverse representation of the
human form.Geared toward artists of all levels--from beginners
through professionals--this handy, pocket-sized book will help
spark your imagination and creativity. Whether your interest is in
figure drawing, fine arts, fashion design, game design, or creating
comic book or manga art, you will find this helpful book filled
with actionable insights.(Publisher's Note: This book features an
"exposed" binding style. This is intentional, as it is designed to
help the book lay flat as you draw.) TABLE OF

Ateliers have produced the greatest artists of all time - and now
that educational model is experiencing a renaissance. These
studios, a return to classical art training, are based on the
nineteenth-century model of teaching artists by pairing them with a
master artist over a period of years. Students begin by copying
masterworks, then gradually progress to painting as their skills
develop. On every page, Aristides uses the works of works of Old
Masters and today's most respected realist artists to demonstrate
and teach the principles of realist drawing and painting, taking
students step by step through the learning curve yet allowing them
to work at their own pace. Unique and inspiring, Classical Drawing
Atelier is a serious art course for serious art students.

This beautifully illustrated catalogue presents a selection of
exceptional seventeenth-century Dutch drawings from the Peck
Collection in the Ackland Art Museum at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill. Featuring many previously unpublished and
rarely exhibited works, the catalogue brings together examples by
some of the best-known artists of the era such as Rembrandt,
Jacques de Gheyn II, Samuel van Hoogstraten, and Frans van Mieris.
The collection was donated to the museum in 2017 by the late Drs.
Sheldon and Leena Peck. The transformative gift is comprised of
over 130 largely seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Dutch and
Flemish drawings, establishing the Ackland as one of a handful of
university art museums in the United States where northern European
drawings can be studied in depth. Drawn to Life presents around 70
works from this exceptional and diverse group of drawings amassed
by the Pecks over four decades. Featuring new research and fresh
insights into seventeenth-century drawing practice, the catalogue
and accompanying exhibition celebrates the creativity and technical
skills of Dutch artists who explored the beauty of the natural
world and the multifaceted aspects of humanity. The catalogue
features a broad selection of scenes of everyday life, landscapes,
biblical and historical scenes, portraits, and preparatory studies,
forming a dynamic and representative group of Dutch drawings made
by some of the most outstanding artists of the period, including
Abraham Bloemaert, Jacob van Ruisdael, Esaias van de Velde,
Bartholomeus Breenbergh, Pieter Molijn, Aelbert Cuyp, Adriaen van
Ostade, Ferdinand Bol, Nicolaes Maes, Jan Lievens, Gerard ter
Borch, Adriaen van de Velde, Nicolaes Berchem, and Cornelis Dusart.
Key sheets of remarkable quality by lesserknown artists such as
Guillam Dubois, Herman Naiwincx, Willem Romeyn, and Jacob van der
Ulft, also comprise a core strength of the collection, and serve as
a testament to the visual acuity of the Pecks as collectors. At the
heart of the Peck Collection are several sheets by Rembrandt,
including the sublime Noli me Tangere; a beautifully rendered late
landscape, Canal and Boats with a Distant View of Amsterdam; and
the superbly charming Studies of Women and Children, which was the
last of Rembrandt's seventeen known drawings with an inscription in
his own hand to reach a public collection. Meticulously researched
and written by Robert Fucci, Ph.D., Drawn to Life introduces both
scholars and drawings enthusiasts to the depth and beauty of the
Peck Collection at the Ackland Art Museum.
