This book (hardcover) is part of the TREDITION CLASSICS. It
contains classical literature works from over two thousand years.
Most of these titles have been out of print and off the bookstore
shelves for decades. The book series is intended to preserve the
cultural legacy and to promote the timeless works of classical
literature. Readers of a TREDITION CLASSICS book support the
mission to save many of the amazing works of world literature from
oblivion. With this series, tredition intends to make thousands of
international literature classics available in printed format again
- worldwide.
Electrostatic Accelerators have been at the forefront of modern
technology since the development by Sir John Cockroft and Ernest
Walton in 1932 of the first accelerator, which was the first to
achieve nuclear transmutation and earned them the Nobel Prize in
Physics in 1951. The applications of Cockroft and Walton's
development have been far reaching, even into our kitchens where it
is employed to generate the high voltage needed for the magnetron
in microwave ovens. Other electrostatic accelerator related Nobel
prize winning developments that have had a major socio-economic
impact are; the electron microscope where the beams of electrons
are produced by an electrostatic accelerator, X-rays and computer
tomography (CT) scanners where the X-rays are produced using an
electron accelerator and microelectronic technology where ion
implantation is used to dope the semiconductor chips which form the
basis of our computers, mobile phones and entertainment systems.
Although the Electrostatic Accelerator field is over 90 years old,
and only a handful of accelerators are used for their original
purpose in nuclear physics, the field and the number of
accelerators is growing more rapidly than ever. The objective of
this book is to collect together the basic science and technology
that underlies the Electrostatic Accelerator field so it can serve
as a handbook, reference guide and textbook for accelerator
engineers as well as students and researchers who work with
Electrostatic Accelerators.

Congruences are ubiquitous in computer science, engineering,
mathematics, and related areas. Developing techniques for finding
(the number of) solutions of congruences is an important problem.
But there are many scenarios in which we are interested in only a
subset of the solutions; in other words, there are some
restrictions. What do we know about these restricted congruences,
their solutions, and applications? This book introduces the tools
that are needed when working on restricted congruences and then
systematically studies a variety of restricted congruences.
Restricted Congruences in Computing defines several types of
restricted congruence, obtains explicit formulae for the number of
their solutions using a wide range of tools and techniques, and
discusses their applications in cryptography, information security,
information theory, coding theory, string theory, quantum field
theory, parallel computing, artificial intelligence, computational
biology, discrete mathematics, number theory, and more. This is the
first book devoted to restricted congruences and their
applications. It will be of interest to graduate students and
researchers across computer science, electrical engineering, and
mathematics.
Newnes has worked with Marty Brown, a leader in the field of power
design to select the very best design-specific material from the
Newnes portfolio. Marty selected material for its timelessness, its
relevance to current power supply design needs, and its real-world
approach to design issues. Special attention is given to switching
power supplies and their design issues, including component
selection, minimization of EMI, toroid selection, and breadboarding
of designs. Emphasis is also placed on design strategies for power
supplies, including case histories and design examples. This is a
book that belongs on the workbench of every power supply designer!
*Marty Brown, author and power supply design consultant, has
personally selected all content for its relevance and
usefulness
*Covers best design practices for switching power supplies and
power converters
*Emphasis is on pragmatic solutions to commonly encountered design
problems and tasks
This is an excellent resource for those who wish to study about
Tesla's experiments. The notes are highly detailed, and clearly
show his attempts at transmitting electricity without wires by
means of his magnifying transmitter.
The Newnes Know It All Series takes the best of what our authors
have written to create hard-working desk references that will be an
engineer's first port of call for key information, design
techniques and rules of thumb. Guaranteed not to gather dust on a
shelf!

Quantum mechanics - central not only to physics, but also to
chemistry, materials science, and other fields - is notoriously
abstract and difficult. Essential Quantum Mechanics is a uniquely
concise and explanatory book that fills the gap between
introductory and advanced courses, between popularizations and
technical treatises. By focusing on the fundamental structure,
concepts, and methods of quantum mechanics, this introductory yet
sophisticated work emphasizes both physical and mathematical
understanding. A modern perspective is adopted throughout - the
goal, in part, being to gain entry into the world of 'real' quantum
mechanics, as used by practicing scientists. With over 60 original
problems, Essential Quantum Mechanics is suitable as either a text
or a reference. It will be invaluable to physics students as well
as chemists, electrical engineers, philosophers, and others whose
work is impacted by quantum mechanics, or who simply wish to better
understand this fascinating subject.
