Circuit analysis is the fundamental gateway course for computer and electrical engineering majors. Engineering Circuit Analysis has long been regarded as the most dependable textbook. Irwin and Nelms has long been known for providing the best supported learning for students otherwise intimidated by the subject matter. In this new 11th edition, Irwin and Nelms continue to develop the most complete set of pedagogical tools available and thus provide the highest level of support for students entering into this complex subject. Irwin and Nelms trademark student-centered learning design focuses on helping students complete the connection between theory and practice. Key concepts are explained clearly and illustrated by detailed worked examples. These are then followed by Learning Assessments, which allow students to work similar problems and check their results against the answers provided. The WileyPLUS course contains tutorial videos that show solutions to the Learning Assessments in detail, and also includes a robust set of algorithmic problems at a wide range of difficulty levels. WileyPLUS sold separately from text.

For a first course on nonlinear control that can be taught in one semester This book emerges from the award-winning book, Nonlinear Systems, but has a distinctly different mission and organization. While Nonlinear Systems was intended as a reference and a text on nonlinear system analysis and its application to control, this streamlined book is intended as a text for a first course on nonlinear control. In Nonlinear Control, author Hassan K. Khalil employs a writing style that is intended to make the book accessible to a wider audience without compromising the rigor of the presentation. Teaching and Learning Experience This program will provide a better teaching and learning experience-for you and your students. It will help: *Provide an Accessible Approach to Nonlinear Control: This streamlined book is intended as a text for a first course on nonlinear control that can be taught in one semester. *Support Learning: Over 250 end-of-chapter exercises give students plenty of opportunities to put theory into action.

For courses in Adaptive Filters. Haykin examines both the mathematical theory behind various linear adaptive filters and the elements of supervised multilayer perceptrons. In its fifth edition, this highly successful book has been updated and refined to stay current with the field and develop concepts in as unified and accessible a manner as possible.
Electrical and Electronic Systems is written in a way that makes it accessible for all its potential readers. Students specialising in electronic or electrical engineering will find material that is presented in a way that is easy to absorb, providing an excellent grounding for further study. For those intending to specialise in other areas of engineering or science, the book provides a good grounding in the basics, and progresses into detail only as far as it is appropriate for their needs. The key to the book's accessibility is the "top down" approach to the subject - the book begins by outlining the uses and characteristics of electrical and electronic systems, before looking in detail at their analysis. This gives students an insight into why topics are important before they are studied in detail.
Heat Transfer has been written for undergraduate students in mechanical, nuclear, and chemical engineering programs. The success of Anthony Mill's Basic Heat and Mass Transfer and Heat Transfer continues with two new editions for 1999. The careful ordering of topics in each chapter leads students gradually from introductory concepts to advanced material, eliminating road blocks to developing solid engineering problem-solving skills. Mathematical concepts, from earlier courses, are reviewed on as needed basis refreshing students' memories, and the computational software integrated with the text allows them to obtain reliable numerical results. The integrated coverage of design principles and the wide variety of exercises based on current heat and mass transfer technologies encourages students to think like engineers, better preparing them for the engineering workplace.
For a first-year graduate-level course on nonlinear systems. It may also be used for self-study or reference by engineers and applied mathematicians. The text is written to build the level of mathematical sophistication from chapter to chapter. It has been reorganized into four parts: Basic analysis, Analysis of feedback systems, Advanced analysis, and Nonlinear feedback control.
Fundamental of Engineering Electromagnetics not only presents the fundamentals of electromagnetism in a concise and logical manner, but also includes a variety of interesting and important applications. Throughout the twentieth century, cities such as Houston, Galveston, New Orleans, and Mobile grappled with the safety hazards created by oil and gas industries as well as the role municipal governments should play in protecting the public from these threats. James B. McSwain's Petroleum and Public Safety reveals how officials in these cities created standards based on technical, scientific, and engineering knowledge to devise politically workable ordinances related to the storage and handling of fuel. Each of the cities studied in this volume struggled through protracted debates regarding the regulation of crude petroleum and fuel oil, sparked by the famous Spindletop strike of 1901 and the regional oil boom in the decades that followed. Municipal governments sought to ensure the safety of their citizens while still reaping lucrative economic benefits from local petroleum industry activities. Drawing on historical antecedents such as fire-protection engineering, the cities of the Gulf South came to adopt voluntary, consensual fire codes issued by insurance associations and standards organisations such as the National Board of Fire Underwriters, the National Fire Protection Association, and the Southern Standard Building Code Conference. The culmination of such efforts was the creation of the International Fire Code, an overarching fire-protection guide that is widely used in the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America. In devising ordinances, Gulf South officials pursued the politics of risk management, as they hammered out strategies to eliminate or mitigate the dangers associated with petroleum industries and to reduce the possible consequences of catastrophic oil explosions and fires. Using an array of original sources, including newspapers, municipal records, fire-insurance documents, and risk-management literature, McSwain demonstrates that Gulf South cities played a vital role in twentieth-century modernization.
Nuclear power is not an option for the future but an absolute necessity. Global threats of climate change and lethal air pollution, killing millions each year, make it clear that nuclear and renewable energy must work together, as non-carbon sources of energy. Fortunately, a new era of growth in this energy source is underway in developing nations, though not yet in the West. Seeing the Light is the first book to clarify these realities and discuss their implications for coming decades. Readers will learn how, why, and where the new nuclear era is happening, what new technologies are involved, and what this means for preventing the proliferation of weapons. This book is the best work available for becoming fully informed about this key subject, for students, the general public, and anyone interested in the future of energy production, and, thus, the future of humanity on planet Earth.

This is the 5th edition of the IET's Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. This Code of Practice provides guidance on in-service inspection and testing to determine whether electrical equipment is safe for continued use. Duty-holders are required by law to consider the risks associated with the use of electrical equipment. The Code underpins the need to conduct inspection and testing of electrical equipment by considering the risks the equipment is exposed to and the environment it is used in, in addition to the skill level of the user. It applies to all workplaces and also some types of rented accommodation. This 5th Edition reinforces the necessity to establish and conduct appropriate safety checks, taking into account current working practices and legal requirements. Among some of the changes in this edition are: the requirements for electrical safety management guidance on how to conduct a risk assessment testing needed to ensure safety in continued use changes to acceptable test result limits and a new hierarchy of tests inclusion of ES1 and ES2 to reflect the changes to product standards guidance on the new product classifications updated standard references revised model forms. The core purpose of this Code of Practice is to help achieve high standards of electrical safety and it is recommended reading for all duty-holders responsible for the management of electrical equipment.
