The Fields of Electronics - Understanding Electronics Using Basic Physics (Hardcover): R. Morrison The Fields of Electronics - Understanding Electronics Using Basic Physics (Hardcover)
R. Morrison
R2,762 Discovery Miles 27 620 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

A practical new approach that brings together circuit theory and field theory for the practicing engineer

To put it frankly, the traditional education of most engineers and scientists leaves them often unprepared to handle many of the practical problems they encounter. The Fields of Electronics: Understanding Electronics Using Basic Physics offers a highly original correction to this state of affairs.

Most engineers learn circuit theory and field theory separately. Electromagnetic field theory is an important part of basic physics, but because it is a very mathematical subject, the connection to everyday problems is not emphasized. Circuit theory, on the other hand, is by its nature very practical. However, circuit theory cannot describe the nature of a facility, the interconnection of many pieces of hardware, or the power grid that interfaces each piece of hardware.

The Fields of Electronics offers a unique approach that brings the physics and the circuit theory together into a seamless whole for today’s practicing engineers. With a clear focus on the real-world problems confronting the practitioner in the field, the book thoroughly details the principles that apply to:

  • Capacitors, inductors, resistors, and transformers
  • Utility power and circuit concepts
  • Grounding and shielding
  • Radiation
  • Analog and digital signals
  • Facilities and sites

Written with very little mathematics, and requiring only some background in electronics, this book provides an eminently useful new way to understand the subject of electronics that will simplify the work of every novice, experienced engineer, and scientist.

Introduction to VLSI Silicon Devices - Physics, Technology and Characterization (Hardcover, 1986 ed.): Badih El-Kareh, R. J.... Introduction to VLSI Silicon Devices - Physics, Technology and Characterization (Hardcover, 1986 ed.)
Badih El-Kareh, R. J. Bombard
R4,331 Discovery Miles 43 310 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

There was a long felt need for this book in industrial and academic institutions. It provides new engineers, as well as practicing engineers and advanced laboratory personnel in the field of semiconductors a clear and thorough discussion of state-of-the-art silicon devices, without resorting to the complexity of higher mathematics and physics. This difficult task was made possible by detailing the explanation of equations that describe the device operation and characteristics without endeavoring their full derivation. This is reinforced by several problems which reflect practical cases observed in the laboratory. The problems are given after introducing a major equation or concept. They are arranged in the order of the text rather than in the order of difficulty. The answers to most of the problems are given in order to enable the student to "self-check" the method used for the solutions. The illustrations may prove to be of great help to "newcomers" when dealing with the characterization of real devices and relating the measured data to device physics and process parameters. The new engineer will find the book equivalent to "on the job training" and acquire a working knowledge of the fundamental principles underlying silicon devices. For the engineer with theoretical background, it offers a means for direct application of solid state theory to device analysis and synthesis. The book originated from a set of notes developed for an in-house one-year course in Device Physics, Technology and Characterization at IBM.

This new volume introduces various VLSI (very-large-scale integration) architecture for DSP filters, speech filters, and image filters, detailing their key applications and discussing different aspects and technologies used in VLSI design, models and architectures, and more. The volume explores the major challenges with the aim to develop real-time hardware architecture designs that are compact and accurate. Knowledge of VLSI is necessary for understanding today’s contemporary hardware prospects of engineering. It is the process of creating an integrated circuit by combining millions of MOS transistors onto a single chip that is needed for handheld portable battery-operated devices that require efficient, errorless, and low-power arithmetic operation. VLSI plays a most important role in the performance of digital systems, digital signal processing (DSP), image processing applications, hardware security, quantum computing, etc. Especially in DSP systems, the algorithms of VLSI have a number of interesting characteristics that can be exploited in the design of the arithmetic circuits so that they can be implemented more efï¬ciently in terms of computation time, chip area, and power consumption. This volume, VLSI Architecture for Signal, Speech, and Image Processing, provides useful research in the field of computer arithmetic and can be applied for various arithmetic circuits, for their digital implementation schemes, and for performance considerations. It covers how computer arithmetic contributes to the era of quantum computing, hardware security, image processing, biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, neural networks, and stochastic computing. Prepared by leading researchers in the field of computer arithmetic architecture, the state-of-the-art information presented here helps to provide a comprehensive understanding of VLSI for students, faculty, and researchers in computer science, computer engineering, and electrical and electronics engineering. It may be used as a textbook for courses on VLSI as well as a reference book.

Low-Voltage CMOS Operational Amplifiers - Theory, Design and Implementation (Hardcover, 1995 ed.): Satoshi Sakurai, Mohammed... Low-Voltage CMOS Operational Amplifiers - Theory, Design and Implementation (Hardcover, 1995 ed.)
Satoshi Sakurai, Mohammed Ismail
R4,156 Discovery Miles 41 560 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Low-Voltage CMOS Operational Amplifiers: Theory, Design and Implementation discusses both single and two-stage architectures. Opamps with constant-gm input stage are designed and their excellent performance over the rail-to-rail input common mode range is demonstrated. The first set of CMOS constant-gm input stages was introduced by a group from Technische Universiteit, Delft and Universiteit Twente, the Netherlands. These earlier versions of circuits are discussed, along with new circuits developed at the Ohio State University. The design, fabrication (MOSIS Tiny Chips), and characterization of the new circuits are now complete. Basic analog integrated circuit design concepts should be understood in order to fully appreciate the work presented. However, the topics are presented in a logical order and the circuits are explained in great detail, so that Low-Voltage CMOS Operational Amplifiers can be read and enjoyed by those without much experience in analog circuit design. It is an invaluable reference book, and may be used as a text for advanced courses on the subject.
