Applied Frequency-Domain Electromagnetics (Hardcover): R Paknys Applied Frequency-Domain Electromagnetics (Hardcover)
R Paknys
R3,342 Discovery Miles 33 420 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Understanding electromagnetic wave theory is pivotal in the design of antennas, microwave circuits, radars, and imaging systems. Researchers behind technology advances in these and other areas need to understand both the classical theory of electromagnetics as well as modern and emerging techniques of solving Maxwell's equations. To this end, the book provides a graduate-level treatment of selected analytical and computational methods. The analytical methods include the separation of variables, perturbation theory, Green's functions, geometrical optics, the geometrical theory of diffraction, physical optics, and the physical theory of diffraction. The numerical techniques include mode matching, the method of moments, and the finite element method. The analytical methods provide physical insights that are valuable in the design process and the invention of new devices. The numerical methods are more capable of treating general and complex structures. Together, they form a basis for modern electromagnetic design. The level of presentation allows the reader to immediately begin applying the methods to some problems of moderate complexity. It also provides explanations of the underlying theories so that their capabilities and limitations can be understood.

The Digitization of Cinematic Visual Effects - Hollywood's Coming of Age (Hardcover): Rama Venkatasawmy The Digitization of Cinematic Visual Effects - Hollywood's Coming of Age (Hardcover)
Rama Venkatasawmy
R3,676 Discovery Miles 36 760 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Digitization of Cinematic Visual Effects: Hollywood s Coming of Age, by Rama Venkatasawmy, analyzes how the Hollywood cinema industry s visual effects applications have not only motivated the expansion of filmmaking praxis, they have also influenced the evolution of viewing pleasures and spectatorship experiences. Following the digitization of their associated technologies, VFX have been responsible for multiplying the strategies of representation and storytelling, as well as extending the range of stories that can potentially be told onscreen. By the same token, the visual standards of the Hollywood film s production and exhibition have been growing in sophistication. On the basis of displaying groundbreaking VFX immaculately realized through the application of cutting-edge technologies and craftsmanship and of projecting such a significant degree of visual innovation and originality, certain Hollywood movies have established techno-visual trends and industrial standards for subsequent filmmaking practice. Hollywood cinema s entry into the digital realm is intertwined with the intensification of conglomeratic practices within the movie business, the domain of techno-scientific R&D in filmmaking, and the unification of corporate media, information technology, and entertainment. Hence, the standardization of, and convergence toward, the digital medium is emblematic of Hollywood cinema s techno-industrial evolution in the late twentieth century. Accordingly, this volume identifies various synergies and partnerships between VFX providers, movie studios, graphic designers, and more that have emerged from a progressive growth of awareness in Hollywood of the digital medium s potential."

Frequency Compensation Techniques for Low-Power Operational Amplifiers (Hardcover, 1995 ed.): Rudy G.H. Eschauzier, Johan... Frequency Compensation Techniques for Low-Power Operational Amplifiers (Hardcover, 1995 ed.)
Rudy G.H. Eschauzier, Johan Huijsing
R5,282 Discovery Miles 52 820 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Frequency Compensation Techniques for Low-Power Operational Amplifiers is intended for professional designers of integrated amplifiers, emphasizing low-voltage and low-power solutions. The book bridges the gap between the professional designer's needs and available techniques for frequency compensation. It does so by explaining existing techniques and introducing several new techniques including Hybrid Nested Miller compensation, Multipath Miller Zero cancellation and Multipath Conditionally Stable compensation. All compensation techniques are treated in a stage-number-based order, progressing from a single transistor to circuits with six stages and more. Apart from discussing the mathematical basis of the compensation methods, the book provides the reader with the factual information that is required for practicing the design of integrated feedback amplifiers and many worked out examples. What is more, many bipolar and CMOS operational amplifier realizations, along with their measurement results, prove the effectiveness of the compensation techniques in real-life circuits. The text focuses on low-voltage, low-power integrated amplifiers. Many of the presented bipolar circuits operate at supply voltages down to 1V, while several CMOS amplifiers that function correctly just slightly above this voltage are demonstrated. The lowest measured power consumption amounts to 17muW for a class AB CMOS opAmp with 120dB gain. Despite this attention to low voltage and low power, the frequency compensation strategies provided are universally applicable. The fundamental approach followed leads to efficient compensation strategies that are well guarded against the parameter variations inherent to the mass-fabrication of integrated circuits. The book is essential reading for practicing analog design engineers and researchers in the field. It is also suitable as a text for an advanced course on the subject.

CMOS Wireless Transceiver Design (Hardcover, 1997 ed.): Jan Crols, Michiel Steyaert CMOS Wireless Transceiver Design (Hardcover, 1997 ed.)
Jan Crols, Michiel Steyaert
R4,145 Discovery Miles 41 450 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The revolution in wireless communications sets new requirements for transceivers (transmitter-receivers). Higher operating frequencies, lower power consumption and very high degree of integration, are new specifications which require design approaches quite different from classical RF design techniques. The integratability and power consumption reduction of the digital component will further improve with the continued downscaling of technologies. This is, however, completely different for the analog transceiver front-end, the component which interfaces between the antenna and the digital signal processor. The analog front-end's integratability and power consumption are closely related to the physical limitations of the transceiver topology and not so much to the scaling of the used technology.

CMOS Wireless Transceiver Design is the first book to give a comprehensive treatment of the design of transceivers for use in wireless communication systems. The book overviews existing transceiver design and goes on to introduce new multi-path receiver and transmitter topologies. It also presents a formal methodology for the high-level design of transceiver architectures and fully illustrates its use in the design of a low-IF/direct upconversion GSM transceiver front-end.

CMOS Wireless Transceiver Design further demonstrates its practical nature by containing concluding chapters which study both the integration of RF building blocks in CMOS and the capabilities of deep submicron CMOS used in combination with the new transceiver topologies for the implementation of wireless transceiver front-ends in the 1 to 2 GHz range.

CMOS Wireless Transceiver Design is essential reading for allresearchers and practising engineers working in the design of wireless communication systems requiring highly integrated RF transceivers.

R5,164 R4,843 Discovery Miles 48 430 Save R321 (6%) Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Spintronics is an emerging technology exploiting the spin degree of freedom and has proved to be very promising for new types of fast electronic devices. Amongst the anticipated advantages of spintronics technologies, researchers have identified the non-volatile storage of data with high density and low energy consumption as particularly relevant. This monograph examines the concept of half-metallic compounds perspectives to obtain novel solutions and discusses several oxides such as perovskites, double perovskites and CrO2 as well as Heusler compounds. Such materials can be designed and made with high spin polarization and, especially in the case of Heusler compounds, many material-related problems present in current-day 3d metal systems, can be overcome. Spintronics: From Materials to Devices provides an insight into the current research on Heusler compounds and offers a general understanding of structure-property relationships, including the influence of disorder and correlations on the electronic structure and interfaces. Spintronics devices such as magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) and giant magnetoresistance (GMR) devices, with current perpendicular to the plane, in which Co2 based Heusler compounds are used as new electrode materials, are also introduced. From materials design by theoretical methods and the preparation and properties of the materials to the production of thin films and devices, this monograph represents a valuable guide to both novices and experts in the fields of Chemistry, Physics, and Materials Science.

Electromagnetic Modelling and Measurements for Analysis and Synthesis Problems (Hardcover, 1991 ed.): B. De Neumann Electromagnetic Modelling and Measurements for Analysis and Synthesis Problems (Hardcover, 1991 ed.)
B. De Neumann
R2,743 Discovery Miles 27 430 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

In this volume is presented the proceedings of a NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on the theme of Electromagnetic Modelling and Measurements for Analysis and Synthesis Problems. The ASI was held at 11 Ciocco, Castelvecchio Pascoli, Tuscany, Italy, August 10th - 21st, 1987. It has been my good fortune to act as co-director of two of Jozef's previous ASIs, and so I am well acquainted with the JKS format for ASIs. As participants will realise, I did not attend this ASI, and so I only have a partial appreciation of the programme. In particular it has not been possible to include transcripts of any panel discussions which may have taken place. Readers may recall that such transcripts have formed a most interesting and useful part of previous ASI proceedings edited by Jozef Skwirzynski, and helped to convey the spirit of the meetings. Unfortunately it has proved impossible to locate the tapes, despite the best efforts of Jozef's assistant, Barry Stuart. A further dificulty has arisen through the untimely death of Jozef's former deputy and colleague at GEC Research, Ed Pacello, who assisted Jozef with the organisation of the precursor of this ASI. The following is taken from original material relating to the aims of the Advanced Study Institute: "PURPOSE OF THE INSTITUTE This Institute is concerned with computer modelling and with experimental measurements as two complementary tools for both analysis and synthesis of electromagnetics (EM), infra-red (IR) and optical problems.

R5,407 Discovery Miles 54 070 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The 11 th IFIP International Conference on Very Large Scale Integration, in Montpellier, France, December 3-5,2001, was a great success. The main focus was about IP Cores, Circuits and System Designs & Applications as well as SOC Design Methods and CAD. This book contains the best papers (39 among 70) that have been presented during the conference. Those papers deal with all aspects of importance for the design of the current and future integrated systems. System on Chip (SOC) design is today a big challenge for designers, as a SOC may contain very different blocks, such as microcontrollers, DSPs, memories including embedded DRAM, analog, FPGA, RF front-ends for wireless communications and integrated sensors. The complete design of such chips, in very deep submicron technologies down to 0.13 mm, with several hundreds of millions of transistors, supplied at less than 1 Volt, is a very challenging task if design, verification, debug and industrial test are considered. The microelectronic revolution is fascinating; 55 years ago, in late 1947, the transistor was invented, and everybody knows that it was by William Shockley, John Bardeen and Walter H. Brattein, Bell Telephone Laboratories, which received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1956. Probably, everybody thinks that it was recognized immediately as a major invention.
