I have a passion to travel, but what do you do when you can't get away? This is my journey to "get away" and write while staying at home. I took the time to educate myself and readers on the love of booze and all its glory. What started as a way to kill time became quite an adventure. After writing my first book (The Right to Release: A Trail of Empty Bottles Across Europe), I needed to find a creative outlet during a return stint to the restaurant Biz after traveling through 42 cities in Europe for 80 days. The outcome was a blog called Swig Knowledge. It served as a way for me to "travel" and learn without leaving the country again. At first, I didn't know if anyone was following, but at the end of one year of blogging about liquor, beer, and wine from all over the Globe, Swig Knowledge has over 4,500 followers in over 100 countries throughout the World. I hope you enjoy the 2011 version of Swig Knowledge and always know what you drink.

In this facsimile reprint, you'll find early versions of such classics as the Absinthe Drip and the Mint Julep, as well as less-common drinks, including Gin and Molasses and the Hot Brandy Sling. Everybody who likes Curry should invest in a little pamphlet by "Daniel Santiagoe, son of Francis Daniel, butler and fiddler, of Colombo, Ceylon, and the Ceylon Court, Royal Jubilee Exhibition, Liverpool."
FOR a long time the public have been in want of a work on the art of Distillation and Rectification, couched in such language that every one could appreciate it; and of such size and value that the price, and the time required to read it, would prove the least objectionable. From the best information I can gain, no work has appeared on this subject for many years. Owing to this fact, most of the improvements which have been made in the art have proved of little use to the larger class; and thus things have almost remained stationary with regard to this very important matter, particularly in this country; which is, indeed, greatly to be lamented, as we are in possession of every thing, in the way of fruits, vegetables, etc., which have hitherto been used in distillation. I trust that in the following pages the reader will find every thing that the present state of science calls for, and that the suggestions may prove of great practical advantage; which I think they will do, as every thing is given in the shortest and plainest manner. It is almost needless to say that I have consulted every authority that I could find, for the purpose of making this a complete work; they are, however, too numerous to mention here, and would be, moreover, of no benefit to the reader. With these few prefatory remarks, the book is submitted to the public.
