Based on a true story, Swallows Town Ocarina is about the
togetherness and warmth that music and dance can bring to the every
day life of simple people in a small town in Brazil in the
beginning of the twentieth century. Enjoy the inspiration of
migrating birds, ocarina music and dance as they create the fun and
joy citizens of a small town had longed for.
How do globalization and internationalization impact music
education around the world? By acknowledging different cultural
values and priorities, Alexandra Kertz-Welzel's vision challenges
the current state of international music education and higher
education, which has been dominated by English-language
scholarship. Her framework utilizes an interdisciplinary approach
and emphasizes the need for developing a pluralistic mode of
thinking, while underlining shared foundations and goals. She
explores issues of educational transfer, differences in academic
discourses worldwide, and the concept of the global mindset to help
facilitate much-needed transformations in global music education.
This thinking and research, she argues, provides a means for better
understanding global transfers of knowledge and ways to avoid
culturally and linguistically hegemonic standards. Globalizing
Music Education: A Framework is a timely call to action for a more
conscious internationalization of music education in which everyone
can play a part.
The choral world is drifting and in need of solutions in relation
to one of its most enduring problems - the shortage of male
singers. Contemporary Choral Work with Boys offers a radical
re-appraisal of the situation based on a unique combination of
scholarly work on the sociocultural aspects of young male singing
with similar cutting edge work on the physiological. The book
provides clear, lucid information on the nature of puberty and
later adolescence and the impact these times have upon both the
vocal mechanism and the social self. New data answer many questions
about whether or not trends in the timing of puberty are causing
voices to "break" earlier and how choir directors and singing
teachers need to respond. The book contains a significant amount
clinical reference material, but the text and presentation is
designed to serve primarily as a practical handbook. Thus, readers
will be able to access the practical advice readily, whilst having
access to more detailed scientific information as and when they
need it. Pitched at a level that will appeal to those who have some
experience of working with choirs that include young male singers
(or would like to include such singers), it should answer questions
that such readers will inevitably have through their experience.
While Professor Ashley's book will stimulate much debate and no
little soul searching, it will encourage organizations associated
with choral singing to explore exciting new initiatives to break
the deadlock of the "missing males" in choral singing.

Teaching Music to Students with Special Needs: A Practical Resource
brings together theory and policy and planning for instruction in
K-12 classrooms. The resource is a result of collaboration between
K-12 teachers, outstanding undergraduate and graduate music
education students, and professionals in the field. The lesson
ideas, lesson plans, and unit plans are organized according to the
six domains posited by Alice Hammel and Ryan Hourigan in their
book, Teaching Music to Students with Special Needs: A Label-free
Approach (Second Edition). This book equips music educators to
understand and implement teaching ideas into the domains of
cognition, communication, behavior, emotions, and physical and
sensory needs. Classroom-tested lesson plans include procedure
outlines and assessments as well as guides for adaptation,
accommodation, and modification needed for successful
implementation in K-12 classrooms. As such, this eminently
practical resource provides teachers with enough practical ideas to
allow them to begin to create and adapt their own lesson plans for
use with students of differing needs and abilities.
This book offers a simple overview of how children can make music.
Easy-to-read text, labeled photos, and a picture glossary make this
book the perfect introduction to the topic.
This is a great collection of favourite songs specially chosen for
primary school age children starting to learn the instrument! No
previous knowledge of music is necessary for pupils - or the
teacher. Just master the easy-to-lay chord shapes and sing along.
"Ukulele from the Beginning" is an ideal introduction to his great
little instrument and in no time at all the whole class will be
playing and accompanying themselves. Includes audio CD with music
examples.
