This index covers all will books from 1784 through 1861; Books 1 to 18 and part of Book 19. There are about 3,300 entries, which include the name of deceased, the year of probate or administration, and where to find the information in the original will books.

This is a book about the descendants of Thomas Macy in the United States of America, extending from 1583 to date. One will find in this book the lineage of such individuals as R. H. Macy, the founder of Macy''s Department Stores; General George Nelson Macy. Provost Marshall of the Army of the Potomac; Ezra Cornell, the founder of Cornell University; Elizabeth Powell, the first Dean of Women of Swarthmore College and Josiah Macy, for whom the Josiah Macy Foundation honors. Included in this book are the ancestors of Benjamin Franklin. A few of the surnames included are Folger, Starbuck, Pinkham, Wolf, Barnard, Coffin, Worth, Swain, Gardner, Hussey, Jenkins, Walton, Pearson, Stanton, Mendenhall, Davis, Coleman, Chase and Flory. Volume I contains the first 9 generations and a part of the 10th, Volume II contains the remainder of the 10th generation to generation 15, the endnotes of which there are over 20,000 and the index.

At its annual meeting in March 1889, the town of Lancaster made appropriation for the preservation in print of its older records of births, marriages, and deaths. The publication was entrusted to Doctor Horace M. Nash, town-clerk, and Henry S. Nourse, who was solely designated as the author. The records included in this work were collected from several sources, including church records, town records, court records, cemeteries, and miscellaneous lists not included in the above sources, compiled by various individuals and organizations. Specifically, the book contains the Middlesex County Court's Register of Lancaster Births, Marriages and Deaths to 1867; the Victims in the Indian Raids; the Middlesex Court's Register of Lancaster Marriages, 1718-1726; Marriages and Deaths of some Early Residents not found in the Town's Records; and Books I, II, III, and IV, of the Town Records of Births, Publishments, Marriages and Deaths, from 1726-1844. Church Records contained herein include Records of the "First Church," Books I and II (1708-1793);Records of the "Second Church," also known as Chocksett Church (1744-1781); Records of the Hillside Church (1830-1843); Records of the Evangelical Congregational Church; and Records of the Universalist Church. Epitaphs were transcribed from the following seven locations: Old Burial Field, Old Common Burial Ground, Chocksett Burial Ground, Middle Cemetery, Burial Place of the Shakers, North Burial Field, and North Village Cemetery. Formerly published as Bulletin of the Virginia State Library, Volume 9, January, April, July, 1916, Nos. 1, 2 and 3. The content of this work was originally developed in 1914, when Mr. Robinson, then employed by the United States Government, as the Historian for the War and Navy Departments, authored a report entitled the Development of Virginia Counties. Later, and following his appointment as Virginia State Archivist, Mr. Robinson became aware of the constant sources of annoyance to title examiners, genealogists, and historians was the absence of some handy reference volume which would provide reliable data on Virginia counties. The author, using his original report of 1914, edited and added new material, a new index, and a bibliography, then issued this Bulletin of the Virginia State Library. Today there are 100 Virginia counties in existence, of 172 counties which were originally created by Virginia legislation. Of the original 172 counties, many merged with other counties, realigned, changed their names, became extinct, and, in the case of West Virginia and Kentucky, seceded from Virginia to form their own state. This work provides, in a single volume, and in concise form, the most reliable and accurate county information concerning the dates of formation, the territory from which formed, and the origin of the names, of the counties which have resulted from Virginia legislation.
