87+ plant-based dinner ideas for easy weeknight cooking. This is a
cookbook for people who appreciate healthy and delicious food, and
want to keep it simple. This one-of-a-kind cookbook was dreamed up
by Betsy Freeman who noticed how few of her friends like to cook. A
passionate home chef who cooks to relax, she started asking why.
Most told her they just don't have the time. Betsy, who works full
time herself, decided to put together a cookbook dedicated to
making cooking easier; in short, recipes and tips from one busy
home cook to another. Her collection of vegan and vegetarian
recipes are low-fuss, low-mess, and high in protein. She lists
substitutions for harder-to-find ingredients so it's easier to make
do with what you have, and suggests ways to minimize food waste.
She also shares tips on how to freestyle-cook, and assemble meals
without using a recipe at all. To inspire home cooking, Betsy
illustrates her book with colourful drawings that offer guidance
and highlight what's special about a recipe. The One & Done
Cookbook includes: 48 one-pot vegetarian and vegan dinner recipes
13 basic recipes that can be served three different ways (as
pastas, soups, grain bowls, stews, and more) 11 versatile sauces 6
great salad dressings 15 time-saving cooking hacks Betsy shares her
prepping and cooking tips in a voice that is wry, understanding,
and smart. With this book, she gets a chance to demonstrate that
cooking is as relatable as she is.

After Carol Bowen Ball underwent bariatric surgery she found there
was very little practical information for weight-loss surgery
patients and as a result she wrote the first (and to date only) UK
bariatric advice and cookery book - Return to Slender. At the same
time she launched BariatricCookery.com a website to support the
same patients. A year later she wrote a sequel Return 2 Slender...
Second Helpings. Both books have been widely praised by the
professional bariatric community as well as pre-op and post-op
patients. The recipes in The Bariatric Bible are designed and
developed to help at every stage after weight-loss surgery. They
are colour-coded to suit the 3 main stages afterwards. These are:
the Red or 1st Fluids Stage, the Amber or 2nd Soft/Pureed Stage,
the Green or 3rd Eating for Life Stage. They will have a
nutritional analysis breakdown. This includes measured calories,
protein, carbohydrate and fat levels. Recipes are also further
coded for suitability for freezing and for vegetarian eating. A new
bariatric lifestyle however isn't just about food - it is also
about exercise, changes in behaviour and relationships, adhering to
essential medications; coping with unsettling situations that can
de-rail the best of intentions, dealing with social situations like
eating out; finding new ideas for a changing body through fashion
and beauty advice; and making new healthier habits to replace old
destructive ones. As a result the book will be the most
comprehensive book of any currently on the market. The book will
cover the types of surgery on offer for those who want to know more
so that they (along with their bariatric team) can make the best
choice from the selection available. It will also look at and
advise on the many pre-op diets that are required prior to surgery
- sometimes to lose weight as part of the qualification process and
also as the liver-reducing diet prior to surgery itself for safe
intervention. However, it will mainly focus on advice and recipes
for after surgery to help the post-op patient maximise their best
chance of long-term success with weight-loss and better health.
Adequate vitamin B12 is essential for physical and mental health
yet the NHS estimated in 2018 that one in 10 people over 75 and one
in 20 people aged 65 to 74 were deficient. A deficiency may be due
to pernicious anaemia (an autoimmune problem), in which case the
only recourse is to inject B12 regularly, but it is much more
likely to be due to medications (both metformin and omeprazole
disrupt B12 metabolism), gastritis (from a poor diet, alcohol etc)
or a poorly planned vegan diet, in which case eating more B12 can
and will make a difference. Five-a-Day Plus One is a collection of
B12-rich, family-friendly recipes that will go a good way to
addressing the B12 gap deliciously and affordably, protecting you
and your loved ones from anaemia, chronic infection, chronic
fatigue, peripheral neuropathy, confusion and even dementia - and
much more. (Many of the recipes are relatively traditional,
highlighting that our diets have become much poorer in vitamin B12
in recent decades. On-trend contemporary diets are not necessarily
the best!)
