puzzles from Flame Tree, featuring powerful and popular works of
art. This new jigsaw will satisfy your need for a challenge, with
the beautiful John James Audubon: 'A Pair of Magpie Jays' from The
Birds of America. This 500-piece jigsaw is intended for adults and
children over 13 years. Not suitable for children under 3 years due
to small parts. Finished Jigsaw size 490 x 360mm/19.3 x 14.2 ins.
Includes an A4 poster for reference. The ornithologist John James
Audubon is best remembered for his influential book The Birds of
America, which included over 400 beautiful artworks. This image was
a collage created by Lady Hertford, who owned Temple Newsam House
in Leeds, England. Lady Hertford cut the images from Audubon's book
and applied them to the hand-painted Chinese wallpaper in her
drawing room. The result was a stunning room filled with a mixture
of Audubon's birds and the original Asian garden birds that
featured on the wallpaper. The two birds on the left here are
Audubon's depictions of Columbia Jays, now known as Black-throated
Magpie Jays.

Model flying is a challenging and exciting hobby as well as a
recognized international sport. The broad principles of flight as
applied in full-size aviation are just as important to flying
models, but these principles are not always recognized or
understood fully by aeromodellers. Written specifically with
aeromodellers in mind, Model Planes: Aerofoils and Wings is a
practical guide to the aerodynamic principles of the 'aerofoil' and
the way that wings produce lift, which is vital to establishing
flight. Included are over forty ready-to-use aerofoil sections in a
range of typical sizes, together with a detailed method of plotting
these sections on a home computer, using Excel or a similar
software. A comprehensive glossary provides clear explanations of
the modelling terminology used, and diagrams illustrate key
principles and themes. Written by a distinguished aerospace
engineer with a passion for modelling, this comprehensive volume is
perfect for the enthusiastic aeromodeller, whether starting out or
looking to hone their craft.

This book illustrates a journey through Amberdale, as it might have
been in the 1890s. Encompassing a wide variety of scene, Amberdale
is nevertheless the smallest of the dales-by far, for Amberdale is
a model, dreamt up in the mind of its creator and built over a
period of some 60 years. Following the river and the railway
through the dale, the pictures bring to life the half forgotten age
of the horse and the steam engine, the unspoiled countryside, the
quiet charm of the villages, the bustle of a market town and the
industrial urgency of late Victorian England. The book describes an
extensive and impressive model, yet emphasises that it is not
dependant on particular modelling skills or extensive academic
research, but on imagination and enthusiasm. It suggests an
adventure of any extent open to anyone, and it is hoped that the
pictures will entertain and inspire those who build models and.
those who do not. The trains wind through the valley, the trams
rattle along the streets, the mill wheel turns under the elms....
Welcome to Amberdale.

Model engineers have been making models of internal combustion
engines since the invention of the real thing, but it has always
been surrounded by a mystique, and a perceived difficulty that has
put many people off. This book sets out to show that any competent
model engineer can make a working model petrol engine, and that
there is nothing more difficult than would be encountered in the
construction of an average steam engine. A comprehensive guide to
building model internal combustion engines. Often perceived as a
difficult craft by many people, this guide will be welcomed by
beginners and experienced model engineers alike. Fully illustrated
with 176 black & white and 20 colour photographs. Malcolm
Stride has been building model engines since his teenage days and
is a well-known contributor to Model Engineer magazine.
The rich history of Egypt has provided famous examples of board
games played in antiquity. Each of these games provides evidence of
contact between Egypt and its neighbours. From pre-dynastic rule to
Arab and Ottoman invasions, Egypt's past is visible on game boards.
This volume starts by introducing the reader to board games as well
as instruments of chance and goes on to trace the history and
distribution of ancient Egyptian games, looking particularly at how
they show contact with other cultures and civilizations. Game
practices, which were also part of Egyptian rituals and divination,
travelled throughout the eastern Mediterranean. This book explores
the role of Egypt in accepting and disseminating games during its
long history. Over the last few years, the extent and the modes of
contact have become better understood through museum and archival
research projects as well as surveys of archaeological sites in
Egypt and its surrounding regions. The results allow new insight
into ancient Egypt's international relations and the role of board
games research in understanding its extent. Written by three
authors known internationally for their expertise on this topic,
this will be the first volume on Ancient Egyptian games of its kind
and a much-needed contribution to the field of both Egyptology and
board games studies.

In 2008, November 23-28, the workshop of "Classical Problems on
Planar Polynomial Vector Fields " was held in the Banff
International Research Station, Canada. Called "classical
problems", it was concerned with the following: (1) Problems on
integrability of planar polynomial vector fields. (2) The problem
of the center stated by Poincare for real polynomial differential
systems, which asks us to recognize when a planar vector field
defined by polynomials of degree at most n possesses a singularity
which is a center. (3) Global geometry of specific classes of
planar polynomial vector fields. (4) Hilbert's 16th problem. These
problems had been posed more than 110 years ago. Therefore, they
are called "classical problems" in the studies of the theory of
dynamical systems. The qualitative theory and stability theory of
differential equations, created by Poincare and Lyapunov at the end
of the 19th century, had major developments as two branches of the
theory of dynamical systems during the 20th century. As a part of
the basic theory of nonlinear science, it is one of the very active
areas in the new millennium. This book presents in an elementary
way the recent significant developments in the qualitative theory
of planar dynamical systems. The subjects are covered as follows:
the studies of center and isochronous center problems, multiple
Hopf bifurcations and local and global bifurcations of the
equivariant planar vector fields which concern with Hilbert's 16th
problem. The book is intended for graduate students, post-doctors
and researchers in dynamical systems. For all engineers who are
interested in the theory of dynamical systems, it is also a
reasonable reference. It requires a minimum background of a
one-year course on nonlinear differential equations.
Part of an exciting series of sturdy, square-box 1000-piece jigsaw
puzzles from Flame Tree, featuring powerful and popular works of
art. This new jigsaw will satisfy your need for a challenge, with a
popular masterpiece of post impressionism, Wheat Field with a Lark
by Van Gogh. This 1000 piece jigsaw is intended for adults and
children over 13 years. Not suitable for children under 3 years due
to small parts. Finished Jigsaw size 735 x 510mm/29 x 20 ins. Now
includes an A4 poster for reference. In Wheat Field With a Lark
Vincent Van Gogh abandoned his earlier darker palette, replacing it
with light colours and directional brushstrokes to depict the
airiness of a wheat field swaying in a summer's breeze. In the last
years of his life, he painted several landscapes featuring wheat
fields, all of which evoke a range of emotions. In a letter to his
brother he explained his inspiration: 'I am almost certain that
these canvases illustrate what I cannot express in words, that is,
how healthy and reassuring I find the countryside.' His love for
the countryside can be seen in the quick and lyrical execution of
each stroke that makes every flower and wheat sheaf come alive.
While he was not widely accepted in his lifetime, Van Gogh is now
one of the most renowned artists in the world and his incredible
paintings will be for ever admired.
